Though Ferris was a close second. I've seen Breakfast Club so many times and still love it.
(and there was also the third season episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation that mimicked it, which was so awesome).

You gotta go with the film that sang about lowering the voting age to 14 and putting everyone over 30 into camps.
14 or fight!
dwd. we just introduced two of our friends to that movie this weekend. max frost for president!

What about Heathers? I was far from a teen when it came out and it still blew me away.
Great flick. Notice I like the ones with dark humor, Heathers and Welcome to the Dollhouse.
Amazingly bad. The only parts that were bearable were the interactions of Sean Penn with Ray Walston.

Napoleon Dynamite...I was told but countless people that I had to see this movie. It is quoted constantly in my various circles (although we'd been saying "Sweeeet" long before)...so I went. I don't get it! Was I supposed to be drunk first? Did something happen that I missed? I'm not even sure what year it was supposed to be. So can someone explain it to me?
But the answer to this poll is most certainly Ferris...It is so choice.... If you have the means I highly recommend picking it up...
Although it's technically set in the present, I think that movie had a lot to do with growing up in the mid-late 80's... and was largely a celebration of that time, although it's not really stated as such. I think if one can reconcile themselves to the fact that the movie is not "about" anything, then it's easier to enjoy.
I think there needs to be an "anything with John Cusack" answer or something. :) Yes, Better Off Dead is a kickass awesome movie. I voted for Ferris because it's so deeply programmed into my mind, so quotable, etc. It's just such giddy fun. Though if Heathers had been on the list I would have been deeply conflicted. I actually am split on Say Anything. I love the movie based mostly on Lloyd and who he is and how he acts...but I get so fed up with the girl that I feel Lloyd's absolute awesomeness is wasted on her. :) So when I'm watching the movie I tend to tune out on any parts where she's more central. Maybe I'm just bitter because I would have been gaga over him from day one and wouldn't have had to be pursued. :) Yeah, I've seen Better off Dead and Cusack bit-part classic SIXTEEN CANDLES (no more yanky my wanky!!!!) more times than I can count... those are really my top two... they did so many more off the wall hyper things... like remember in Just One of the Guys, the guy that always walked around with lizards and stuff, and the 2 boys who thought they were aliens?? WOW.
I love Just One of the Guys way more than I feel I should. :) I've seen it a gabillion times.

but i would have included heathers, welcome to the dollhouse, pretty in pink, clueless, saved!, bring it on, and mean girls in my list, too.
so i voted for other. but now i wish i could change my vote so 10 things could get some love. I think teen movies are my favourite movie genre, though usually when pressed I won't admit it for some idiotic reason. I'm so glad someone mentioned Pretty in Pink because I saw it when I was twelve and oddly got a crush on Andrew McCarthy and also obsessed with the Psychedelic Furs even though the song came forst and the lyrics had nothing to do with the plot. Yay teen movies, and I really liked the baby-sitters club movie too and feel no need to hide it!

Thought about voting for 10 Things... because it was my favorite of the choices listed...but...
Clueless. No question, really.

Goovie, you're so right. I should have included more. Forgive me? ;) Especially Saved! I think that might be the best one of this decade.
I actually had a hard time picking my choice. I love Say Anything but i also get so fed up with Ione Skye. But the thing I love about the movie was how different it was from the other 80s teen movies. It wasn't so cookie-cutter and melodramatic. The people and the dialogue seemed real. I liked that. My favorite part is the little kid in the gas station parking lot who goes "Bitches man!" in that little voice. :) For those of you asking about Napoleon Dynamite . . . I really really liked that movie. I thought the humor was so weird and new and "what the hell?" My stomach hurt so much after I saw that in the theatres. I couldn't stop laughing. The thing is, with Napoleon Dynamite, even though it's weird and has a humor that takes getting used to, I think it's just your normal teen movie. . .except unlike most teen movies (with the exception of Welcome to the Dollhouse, probably) it's about COMPLETELY UN-glamorous people. They're backwards and shy and dress terribly and live in the middle of nowhere. THey're people we like to objectify. But the film makes us confront the fact that they are complex people too. Even sexual beings who fall in love. Plus? Some of the shots are gorgeous. Like when Deb's calling Napoleon from a payphone, and the mountains are in the background. . . .Oh yes, and Ferris Bueller is a VERY VERY close second behind Say Anything. I think the scene at the art museum is one of my favorites ever.

Anyone for Porky's, Animal House,Dirty Dancing, Grease, Dazed and Confused, American Graffiti, West Side Story, Revenge of the Nerds? There are so many!
I wouldn't call Animal House teen movie. the characters were in their early 20s.
I loved West Side Story but I'm not sure if I'd call it a teen film, that was not the target audience. American Graffiti was great, the only film that Lucas concentrated on getting performances out of his actors. I liked Dazed and Confused but don't really remember why.

I voted for "Other," meaning none. I don't think I've ever seen a teen movie.

I recently saw Not Another Teen Movie, and I was able to name every movie that they made reference to. Scary.
How do you know for sure? :) Those you couldn't identify...you may not have noticed a reference being made..:) Sorry, just being a smartass.

I don't think of it as a teen film but has there ever been a greater film dealing with the problems of being a teen?

MORTAL KOMBAT 2!!!!! YES! BEST. MOVIE. EVER! So maybe I'm a lunatic. In light of this, and surprisingly enough I still can't stand When She Talks.
o.O
mortal kombat 2 is the best *teen* movie ever?
perhaps for geeky teens themselves who play video games all the time? *shrug*
