Discussion: Which accent is the sexiest?
Bender · 20 years, 10 months ago
I said Canadian. But I'm severely biased.
dirty life & times · 20 years, 10 months ago
russian is way sexy! it reminds me of junior high.

failing that, israeli.
Bender Back · 20 years, 10 months ago

I love Israeli accents. However, they're very startling on your cell phone when they're not expected.

"Shalom, Leah!"

I thought my dumbass ex was playing a prank.

ellen · 20 years, 10 months ago
but then again, I have to say that, since I've got an english boyfriend. ;)
nate... · 20 years, 10 months ago
no doubt about it.
Andrea Krause · 20 years, 10 months ago

English/Irish/Scottish and the like are the absolute sexiest. I can't often choose between the three. Australian and New Zealand...ish? are sexy too but not at the same level. :)

The weird thing i find is that the accents above make me melt when spoken by men. With women, it doesn't have much of an effect. Pleasant, but not drool-worthy. Dunno why!

Talcott · 20 years, 10 months ago
(or would it be New Englander?)

I never liked the letter "R" anyways ;-)

The best though, are the soft New England accents that only come out in a few words. Oh, and the word "Wicked" :-)

Adam Hartfield · 20 years, 10 months ago
So lilting, flowing, and rounded...like a brook running over well-worn stones...
Rimbo · 20 years, 10 months ago
Something about that harsh German tongue coming out of a beautiful woman's mouth is it for me. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment.
Rachel Marie aka RAI Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
Yeah, I say Newfoundlander, but that's because I've got a NEWFIE boyfriend. ;o)
angelmusicmaven · 20 years, 10 months ago
Something about the oots and the abewts and the a-gains and the ehs... *heartaflutter*
Bruce Rose · 20 years, 10 months ago
It really matters who's speaking. My favorite accent is from Arkansas... which is very different from "southern." But it only works for women... men with an Arkansan accent sound horrible.
If I could have any accent, I'd go for a Sean Connery Scottish brogue.
Bruce Rose · 20 years, 10 months ago
No votes for Midwestern? Might that have something to do with the nonexistence of the Midwestern accent?
A girl named Becca · 20 years, 10 months ago
British. Preferably as spoken by Alan Rickman.

(Also, 13th post! \/\/00t!)
Starfox · 20 years, 10 months ago
I think Southern accents on women, not thick, but a soft one, are sexy. British by far is probably the sexiest for both genders in my opinion.

Anything sounds better in an English accent. "Right, I'm going to bash your head in with this axe, allright?". Guy I used to work with got annoyed by our fascination with his accent. One time he called a complaint line and the lady who answered said "Oh, I love your accent!". He said "That's all fine and dandy, but you realize I'm about to rip you a new arsehole?"
Steph Strenger · 20 years, 10 months ago
I know a British man, I know an Irish man, and I've heard a Scottish man...and...yeah...yum.
Steph Strenger · 20 years, 10 months ago
Maybe it's because I live an hour away, but eh. Doesn't do it. At least not a heavy one.

Oh, and it's "Jersey" Not "Joi-sey".
Rimbo Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
Psssh. Non-existent? Not sure if I agree with you here, Bruce. We're pretty nasal here in the midwest, and our i's sound like e's. At least Minnesota has its own accent. It drives me nuts, dontchaknow.
Talcott Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
"That's all fine and dandy, but you realize I'm about to rip you a new arsehole?"

Which would, of course, sound really cool in an English accent ;-)

And everytime I see this poll, I can't help but think of Strong Bad's children's book.

"Some people have a southern accent, and those are hot!
Trisha is a severe hottie."

J. Andrew World · 20 years, 10 months ago
What about French you insensitive clod? (For those of you who are french diffeciant, like me, babble fish said motte peu sensible means insensitive clod!)

i think anthony stewart head, dom monaghan, billy boyd, and john hannah should take turns reading the phone book to me every night before i go to sleep.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
Mmmm. Best part of 4 weddings and a funeral, hearing John Hannah read the poem at the funeral. *swoon* Just the way he says "rest" is enough to slay me.
nitsita Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
Maybe I'm just really weird, but I never think German sounds harsh.... I am perhaps doomed to arguing with people about that and then prooving my point by speaking it. *shrug*
Phoenix · 20 years, 10 months ago
when I was a kid and learning English I found it so cool to sound British. That's why I now have this strange mixture of English/German accent and there's no use fighting it :)

And I love the New England accent as well. People pahking their cah in Hahvahd yahd.

;-D
renita Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
hear hear.

i love the german language.

I happen to have a Midwestern accent! I get teased quite a bit.. hello from the Minnesota newbie!
nate... · 20 years, 10 months ago
Am I the only person here who found it exceptionally odd to see English, Scottish and Irish grouped together?

They're all SO different!!!

Like, night and day.

Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
For reasons that I can't quite explain, I never think of Minnesota (or Wisconsin, for that matter) as part of the Midwest.Minnesota has its own accent, as does Wisconsin... Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are just breeding grounds for future, accent-free newscasters.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
Agreed. With those three in the same group, it's no wonder the votes are going there.
dirty life & times Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
you know, they say that, but.... i grew up in ohio, i live in bc now, there's a girl at my school from michigan &.... she has such a thick accent! but, at the same time, she sounds like my relatives. yeah, the "a"s are kind of nasal, & drawn out, or something.
danced with Lazlo Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
/me votes Israeli as well
George E. Nowik · 20 years, 10 months ago
i voted southern because a nice, light, southern belle would easily melt me in my tracks.

of course, i once had a soft spot for french accents... (:

No votes for jewish?
100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 10 months ago

yes yes yes yes~!! I LOVE the a-gains. i also love the way they pronounce the short O. I of course wrote Canadian, because it rocks.

100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
hmm. . . sorry aboot that. I think i just wanted to include some non-white people accents so it wasn't homogenized, and i needed room, so I lumped all the accents from the british isles together. forgive me? ;)
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
dude. i want to live on sombrero road.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
you're conveniently ignoring the chicago accent, which kills my soul every time i hear it.

but still, it's not as bad as the accent in bawlmer.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 10 months ago

I'm hoping to develop the Chicago accent. :-)

It's odd that I'm championing this cause. When we moved to Indiana, one of my seventh grade classmates asked if I could stop talking in that stupid California accent. I gave her a look that said, "Oh, like you have any room to talk about annoying accents."

ellen Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
*raises hand*

am new england girl, but with homogonized parental and suburban influence, so my accent isn't all that strong. I love to tawlk in a Boston accent, however, and I LOVE to listen to Cartalk, 'cuz it feels like home to me :)
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 10 months ago
cool!

For some strange reasons (particularly events that happened after FRFF 2000 and included 2 days of hospitalization) I stayed longer in Boston than in any other town save my hometown... And for me Boston is pure music heaven :)

What, you want they should make a separate choice for Jewish? New York isn't close enough for you? No - it's fine... leave it off of the poll. See if I care. I'll be over here putting tape over my mouth. You shouldn't worry.
