When I was in preschool, I had a really bad seizure or something. Nothing since then.
Oh, by the way, let's have a communal knock-on-wood. *knock knock knock* Thank you.
I get a cookie too. I figured you might be another cookie muncher. I counted 11 times, I wouldn't be surprised if i missed one.
If I never eat red jello again it will be too soon.

i've been a few times as an outpatient--once after a car accident, and then for stitches/stitch removal after an unfortunate bagel-cutting incident.
Yup, in middle school, I had an unfortunate accident involvingone of those giantpaper cutters.

I've been in for a couple of dental things.
One was getting the roof of my mouth cut open so they could pull down a tooth that was stuck up there horizontally. I was awake for the whole thing, and went home right after, but it was in a hospital. Then a few years back (five really. wow.) I got my wisdom teeth out. They did put me out for that, and I was in the recovery room (just a bunk really), but it was at some sort of stand-alone place, not a real hospital. Beyond those the only other thing I can think of is going into urgent care when I thought I might have broken a bone in my foot eairly this summer, but that was mostly just in, "no, you just pulled something", and out.

First it was unexplained fainting, then I broke my elbow, back again for elbow surgery, and lastly (I hope) cat attack. *knock knock knock*

I was three, my mother had just come back from shopping, the phone rang, I dug through the groceries, found the little bottle with the little orange candies in it.
They were never really sure how much children's chewable tylenol (or was it asprin?) I ate. But it equalled a trip to the hospital for induced vomiting for me!
I used to love those chewable tylenol. Soooo tasty. Especially orange.

hmmm...erratic capitalization, missing and misused punctuation? that's a gordon poll. :)
Well I did go into the hospital a couple days after that.
You know I think I should become... barbeque sauce.

minor incidents for the most part.
The most fun thing[/irony] happened after Falcon Ridge 2000 though when I went to Boston for some fun and Club Passim shows but got sick instead - right on time for my birthday:( - and I had to dial 911. Or to express it a bit differently: Tony Bennett sang once I lost my heart in San Francisco I could sing now I lost my gall bladder in Boston But I'm afraid there isn't the same ring to it ;-D (Edit: ooh. I need a new icon)

One of the things about having a doctor for a mom is you can get lots of stuff taken care of at home or in her office...or not at all. Like when I had pneumonia and she told me it was a persistent cought. Heh. Mostly though I've just been pretty healthy so far (*knock on wood)...

I was born cross-eyed, so i had to get my eyes fixed when I was five months old. And then I got the same surgery when I was 5 and when I was 11. never broken no bones though! ;)

Long stays for pneumonia every year from when I was one to when I was seven, then complications from chicken pox and mono the winter I was eight... Something else when I was around ten (although I don't remember what it was, I do remember that we didn't think it would take long and then I ended up staying a few days). And then food poisoning (that's my conclusion, the hospital was just like, "We don't know what that was, you seem better, go home") when I was 18.
I *have* broken a bone, in my foot, but I was such a whiny kid that no one believed me, so I didn't find out it was broken till after it had healed on its own. It's a source of legend and much teasing in my family.
Wow you had mono when you were 8, who were you kissing? :-)
I did it the other way, I had chicken pox when I was 21, the doctor had to check with a pediatrician on how to treat me. I had mono when I was 13, a great age, all the guys were jealous I had the kissing disease.

Am I the only one that was in to have a baby? That was the only time. This May I'll be in to have my 2nd, and hopefully that'll wrap up my experience with hospitalization.

I answered "outpatient" on this one, but in reading the other posts, I was reminded of an incident when I was too young to remember. I wasn't supposed to be able to reach high enough to reach the pan on the stove. From Mom's telling, I had a good portion of my skin removed, and she had a rather intense interrogation from the SP's. I'm not sure how long I was in, but we were always religious about turning the pot handles in after that.
So if someone wants to change my vote. I'm now a 1 instead of an outpatient. Maybe I'll peruse my childhood record to see if there are any others.

if so, man i'm drowning in cookies. so many puncture wounds/stitches/sprained/broken ankles, plus 1 broken wrist and 2 auto accidents ...
in terms of *real* hospitalizations, I voted 3-4 then realized I forgot a couple. post-traumatic stress disorder does that to you. 1) hernia repair when I was 5 - 4-day stay 2) tonsillectomy when I was 11 - 3-day stay 3) 2 separate hospital stays for unspecified neurological disorders when I was 12 or thereabouts -- total of almost a month 4) 1 childbirth - 3-day stay 5) 3 wisdom teeth removed in 1 "out-patient" procedure 6) 1 mental health stay in a residency depression-treatment program that wasn't officially considered hospitalization, but since I had to stay the night, eat hospital food, and have my meds doled out by nurses I think it qualified experientially. 10-day stay.

half a month when i was three for lung problems. i still remember it... i had to live in a bubble tent sort of thing with special air.
since then...too many to even remember, mostly "outpatient" stuff... squashing my hand in the front door when i was 10, falling into the fireplace when i was 11, various times for really bad ulcer-related stuff, once for depression when i was 14... last year was prolly the worst in terms of hospital visits, first from supposed anorexia, then from breaking my ribs. nowadays, i have appointments once a week at a hospital in ktown for mental issues treatment. the thing is, i really have a huge fear of hospitals. heh.

I was born with a bunch of heart defects, so I was in and out of the hospital for 8 months from 14mos on. Then, when I was finally all better, I slipped and fell on a wet floor and broke my femur. The child protection people were all over my mom for that one.
Then when I was around five, my parents noticed I walked funny. I had visits every few months to an orthopedist in Rhode Island for many years, and finally the PT he had given me wasn't working, so I had an operation at the age of 10. That garnered *thinks* three hospitalizations. Since then, it's been ER trips ONLY. *crosses fingers*

ok...lemmmeseeeee......i, too had to stay in the hospital for a while after i was born, then had to go back for a while coz i was allergies to milk and such.......
in 3rd grade had my tonsils & adenoids out{the week of Halloween...all the kids made me cards telling me about the swell party they had at school and then i got to sit on the couch to -guess- who kids were while trick-or-treating....oh the humanity!!!}.......summer of 4th grade got a rare form of impatago....5th grade got viral incephylllitis{sp???}........9th grade was in for about a week with stomach probs that i forget what clinical name they had but were stress related....... so...shit!!! i wrote 3-4 and i had 5 stays. i didn't count outpatient stuff like one-day oral surgeries for wisdom teeth and dental things or breaking my wrist in 6th grade or my finger in 11th grade since i didn't -stay- overnight......

but i can't quite remember. and really, after you hit about 5 hospitalizations, it isn't that big a deal anymore and you do just sorta lose count. *shrug* catheter? IV? all part of the fun! but at least i haven't overnighted since 1996, and i hope to keep it that way. :D
I had a doctor once he gave himself a foley catheter. He also inserted an NG tube into himself. He seemed sane till he told me that. I have some TMI stories that I'll spare you.
sounds like the insane prof i told you about who had the "pet" tapeworm.
*shudders*
i don't know if he named it, but he wouldn't get treatment for himself for it, and it wound up killing him.
this was a bio prof. the dumbass.

I don't think I have ever been hospitalized. If I have, they put me on so many drugs that I can't even remember. Probably the latter... I hope that I wasn't too screwed up though! Now where was I last night?...

When I was too young to remember I swallowed a penny. Went to my mother and declared "My penny in my froat." I was x-rayed to be sure I hadn't inhaled it.
At 15 I hurt my ankle. My sister had badly injured her ankle playing frisbee a week before and was on crutches. I tripped walking home one day but wasn't hurt too bad so I kept walking. The next day my ankle started to swell up and I started to complain that it hurt... but no one would believe me. They still made me climb to the top bunk of our bed because Adina's ankle was hurt and I was supposedly fine. The gym teacher made me continue to run laps in the beginning of gym class cause even though I complained of pain, I didn't have a doctor's note that I was injured. Two weeks later, a trip to St. Luke's revealed that my ankle was, indeed, fractured. At 17 I was hit hard in the ear. I couldn't hear out of that ear for about half an hour and 4 hours later it was still ringing. Mom took me to the HIP center in Brooklyn and they did essentially nothing. My mom was trying to emphasise that I'd been hit but they didn't seem to be listening. *shrug* my ear is fine. and... I think that's it. I had pneumonia when I was 7or 8 but no hospitalization for that. Was in a bad car accident around the same time, but no ambulance came to rescue us anyway (they figured we were all dead) and there were no injuries readily apparent so no trip to the hospital for that either. I did get to sit in a waiting room for 4 hours when my little brother got hit in the face with a golf club at camp...
My God. I don't know what's more frightening ... the nonprofessional apathy, or the professional incompetence you've experienced. *hugs*
I broke my leg when I was five. I couldn't move my leg and the pain was in the knee, the x-rayed me and found a broken patella [knee cap]. The put on a walking cast and sent me home.
I complained about severe pain in my thigh and the doctor said not to worry. After a week of being in agony my parents took me back to the doctor who called me a crybaby and reluctantly took an x-ray of my thigh. I had a broken femur [thigh bone]. Walking on it had been driving the top half into my flesh. When my mother heard this she slapped hte doctor.
That week is the one thing I have pretty much blocked out? I remember everything from the day I broke the leg and I remember finding out about the femur but I have no memory of the pain from walking on it, i just know about it from my parents telling me.
