Favorably misheard lyrics

So, on the subject of misheard lyrics...
Are there any lyrics you misheard and they were actually the better for it? For the life of me I can't think of any of my examples but there have been things I've misheard for a long time and loved the line and when I found out the real words I was disappointed in the result. :) Anyone?
Argh it's bugging the hell out of me. I know the one I was thinking of when I wrote this was a Christina Abbott one but I can't remember what it was! :)
I finally remembered!! I used to hear the lyric "I see through you" as "icy blue you" and was so sad that wasn't it. The phrase just hits me really strongly. So I used it as inspiration for a poem later. So at least my mishearing led to creativity. :)
back in the early days of rem, when michael stipe was even worse at enunciating than he is now, people would often share their mondegreens with him and then he'd change the words of his songs to their misheard versions because he liked them better.
did you know that the source of that word is from a song called The Bonny Earl of Murray?
If/when the lads come back from hiatus, I'd like to hear them sing The Bonny Earl of Murray.
Taken from the Soul Coughing FAQ Doughty's Disclaimer of Luv
I thought "And the less I seek my source for some definitive" was "And the less I seek my soul for some divinity."
You mean...that's not what the line really is?
*Pout. Well, I decided to revive this thread. It really depends on the interpretation of favorable. It's up to you to decide. Here are my contributions: 1. Richard Shindell - Next Best Western: I am wretched, I am tired heard as I'm Richard, I'm tired (took me really a long time to get this right.) 2.It might be a big mistake(tm) to post this but here we go: Dar Williams - Another Mystery: Screw myself with an inscrutable pout heardas Screw myself and then screw the whole town. *ducks* (really wierd. I talked with some guy at FRFF who heard it the same way.perverts unite:) Daytripper : When I was about 15 I heard the line "she only played one night stands" as "she only bled for my sins" And last year I could have sworn the song Love Is by Sublime contained the line, "I can play guitar like a motherfuckin' pirate" I'm pretty sure that's wrong!
Nope. I think "coming" is much better. The disaster is coming at you and you're looking straight at it, meeting it head on, realizing what you've lost. If the disaster were "common" it's impact would be lessened, don't you think?
i like your reasoning, nate.
i thought it was "common" too....weird.
Yeah it didn't occur to me until others referenced it that they would even use a proper name. I automatically think in general terms.
Oh, and I also thought the rest of it was "and you must spread your wings and be gone" which made sense as well.
Shell answered that a few posts up. It's "Angela", not "and, you know," and "and you must".

I always messed up the lyrics to their Piece of Mind opener. Since they customize parts of it for every show, and since I'm a Cleveland Indians fan who is used to getting my hopes dashed and being the butt of many a joke, it seemed only natural to hear the opening line as... "I understand about Indians' Season..."
Since the group was Boston, it may have been inspired by disappointing baseball. I'm surpised Chicago didn't do a version.

One I remembered this weekend is in Lode Star by Sarah Harmer I always had thought it said "the oar dips into ore-like water" and thought that was a really clever play on words, using homonyms but also conveying the blackness of the water/night. I was sad when I found out it was "oil-like"...it still conveys the blackness but I liked the homonym aspect.

in "walk on the ocean," i thought the line "wood becomes bone" was "words become more." i still like that better. i should use it in one of my songs.
Hey why not? I used my misheard Christina "icy blue you" in a poem. :)

"Cats from every background, lord, sometimes I'm overcome thinkin' 'bout it, making love in the green grass behind the stadium with you"
I thought it was very 60's and groovy. Cool guys from every background all making love with my brown eyed girl.
You mean....it's not "my body lies over the ocean"?!?!?!
O:)
they sang that at an NYC show - after admitting that Dave was the oldest brother in Hanson.

Here comes a stingray
There goes a manta-ray In walked a jelly fish There goes a dog-fish Chased by a cat-fish In flew a sea robin Watch out for that piranha There goes a narwhal HERE COMES A BIKINI WHALE! I always heard the last line as "Here comes a Caterwaul!" which I think is 10 times better than the real line.

I also thought she was saying something about a "cross-eyed bear that you gave to me"
like a really ugly toy from a carnival or something... ooh irony... that's like rain on your wedding day, right? He misspelled coincidence so I was teasing by bringing up the Coen brothers movies.
heh, some of the public bathrooms i've seen would fit the song.
