I don't believe in god, so does that mean I shouldn't eat eggs, or I shouldn't care what colour they are?
A.J. Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Depends... Do you believe in chickens?
nate... · 18 years, 10 months ago
I'm not sure how I don't care.

Do I really not care in the way that god intended? Or do I not care in some other way?

I guess I need more options.

Annika · 18 years, 10 months ago
I buy egg substitute. Mmmmmm!
Nik Chaikin · 18 years, 10 months ago
What? no green option?
sheryls Back · 18 years, 10 months ago

aaaaaaaaaactually you CAN get green eggs. it all depends on where the chicken gets the coloring from. i've learned a lot from my coworker w0t has a farm- some eggs are green or blue (on the shell, not the white or yolk) because they get the coloring from the chicken's bile. brown eggs get the coloring from the blood :)

Bender Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
is that why the rabbi is so insistent that I get white eggs instead of brown? I thought it was just him being weird, like the time he freaked out because he doesn't like mayonnaise in his egg salad. it wasn't a matter of kashrut, it was a matter of him being a nebbische
sheryls Back · 18 years, 10 months ago

doesnt kashrut say you're not supposed to have any blood though? so that would explain why no brown eggs.

Bender Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
exactly. I didn't know the brown was from blood until now. I had always assumed it was just the rabbi being weird. the mayonnaise thing was an example of him having non-kashrut-related food weirdnesses.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
I think this was just confusion based on the wording, maybe. At the end of your post saying that it wasn't kashrut etc, etc, about the mayo also seemed like it could be the conclusion of the message based on the new info on the brown eggs.

I'm not saying that very well. But it can also be read as you saying that's why he objected to the eggs...not kashrut but...

So yeah...the fun nature of multiple ways to read text! :)
Bender Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
nah, it's just me not communicating clearly.
Talcott Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
I'm pretty sure the no-mayonnaise things had more to do with his having good taste buds ;-)
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
hear, hear!!! :)
Bender Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
He wanted me to make the egg salad with oil. That's just vile.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Especially if he meant crude oil.
A.J. Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
That is interesting... I read recently that brown eggs come from dark colored chickens and white from light. Hmmmm....
A.J. Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
...and there is much evidence that what I just said is the case, including here: http://www.mrbreakfast.com/ask.asp?askid=23
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Here is a good article with more references on egg color

Smart Stuff with Twig Walkingstick: Brown Egg, White Egg (for the Week of Jan. 11, 2004)
sheryls Back · 18 years, 10 months ago

*shrug* that's just what the dude @ work said. i mean. no where is a Robin blue :D

renita Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
heh. and here is an article that declares everyone correct, just with different pieces of the puzzle.

colour seems to depend on the chicken type (colour of bird-ish)

and those birds get the pigment from different places (blood and bile)

COOL
Geoff · 18 years, 10 months ago
Brown eggs are local eggs. And local eggs are fresh.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Even local dinosaur eggs?
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
heeee. I've had that in my head since this poll popped up. Plus, I sang it on the wall the other day.

How about "I eat chocolate cake because I am allergic to eggs"?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Wouldn't it make more sense to each chocolate eggs?

Doesn't most cake contain eggs?
nate... Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
Most do, yea.
J. Andrew World Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
I can have eggs in like cake, cookies and frech toast (The chocolate cake thing is a joke I have with an old freind). As a child I hated eggs. I don't think it was a bad allergy, but I don't have a tollerance to it like the one I built up to Penut Butter and cats.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 18 years, 10 months ago
Isn't it nice to see eggs of different colors living together in harmony?

nate... Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
"Dogs and cats... living together.... MASS HYSTERIA!"
sheryls Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
ahhaha that's one of my favorite lines. <3 bill murray.

I usually buy white but I like brown better for some reason. And I like local organic stuff too! We used to have our own chicken that laid eggs. That was sweet.
*joolee* · 18 years, 10 months ago
I buy what is on sale!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
White eggs are the only eggs that are ever on sale around here.
*joolee* Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
white eggs it is!
Yvonne · 18 years, 10 months ago
I don't like regular type eggs. I like chocolate eggs. :)

I always wonder what the first person to eat an egg was thinking. "Oh look! Something fell out of this large bird! I think I'll eat it!" *giggle*
Nik Chaikin Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
My guess would be they saw some other critter do it. Where do you think "monkey see, monkey do" came from?......great, now all i can think of is a monkey on a seadoo.

Gordondon son of Ethelred · 18 years, 10 months ago
As long as we are on the topic.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?
A girl named Becca Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
The egg.
The egg that the first chicken hatched from was not laid by a chicken.
Nik Chaikin Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
just to be contrary...The chicken, why would God make an egg with nothing to sit on it?
nate... Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
hahaha

man, you are full of the funny in this thread.

:D
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years, 10 months ago
A chicken is simply an egg's device for making another egg.
