sheryls · 20 years, 6 months ago
I've learned Hebrew, Spanish, Russian and Japanese, and native lang is English.

..i can speak bits and pieces of each, but i'm only fluent in english :D
goovie is married! · 20 years, 6 months ago
when you say "speak," do you mean fluently? conversationally? enough to find your way to a bathroom or buy a drink?

english is the only language i'm fluent in. but i studied the equivalent of six years of french and two years of spanish (my high school had the four-period day...long story), and i know bits and pieces of italian.
Prinut · 20 years, 6 months ago

I can speak some French...I can understand/somewhat speak Marathi, and English (duh).

Edited because I forgot to add Sanskrit...I'm currently taking a class on it and its awesome.

If you mean "speak with any reasonable ability", I know two, English and Spanish.

If you mean "speak enough to sound like a stupid tourist and get around", then I know three, English, Spanish, and German.

If you mean "able to speak anything in the language more than 'Food good.'", then I know four English, Spanish, German, and Japanese.

If you mean anything relating to a language, then I know lots: English, Bad English, Hick/Redneck English, Pig Latin, Legalese, etc. :)
Jillian Bird Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Acutally English, Bad English, Hick/Redneck English, Pig Latin and Legalese are considered dialects of English, not distinct languages.

Fluent: English, Dumbass, Passive-Aggression, Psychobabble, Ebonics, Hillaryspeak (my sister), Rat, Parrot

Conversational: Spanish (often with lots of pointing), Sarcasm

Mamalissa! · 20 years, 6 months ago
Fluent in English. Fluent in Hebrew when I'm drunk (when sober, too anxious about grammar mistakes to say much). And then there's Latin. 6 years of Latin, and I never learned to speak a single word. Fooey...(fuisti, fuit, fuimus, fuistis, fuerunt.)
emilie is CRANKY · 20 years, 6 months ago
i voted two. because although i can't actually speak french, i'd like to think i can. :D
It's a girl! Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

I did the same thing. I did study French for four years though. But that was in high school, so at this point that means that I can ask someone where the bathroom is or tell them that their sheep is pretty or something like that. And that's about it.

I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know a word of Italian that's not food related. It's something I always meant to learn, yet never got around to it.

Spanish; Almost fluently

Tohono O'odham (native american tribe): Very elementary, conversational, simple dialogue

Pig latin and gibberish: Absolutely fluently :)

I used to be able to speak gaelic, when I took lessons on the internet

I can also say THIS IS MY NOSE in almost 20 languages.

I can also say THIS IS MY NOSE in almost 20 languages.

I can eat glass, it doesn't hurt me.
danced with Lazlo Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
That. Is. AWESOME!
sheryls Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

I can say it in 3 other than english!

lessee.

Russian: Eta moya noss!

Japanese: Watashi no hana desu!

Spanish: Es mi nariz!

eta: wait, would that be Esta es me nariz?

Bender Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
es mi nariz, because you're using the ser verb "to be", not estar

ser indicates a permanent status (as in soy un gran periodico sobre los dientes) , while estar indicates a temporary one (such as estoy triste porque estoy volando)
sheryls Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
that's what i thought. then later i was playing with babelfish and it said it otherwise, but babelfish doesnt know everything ^_^
dirty life & times · 20 years, 6 months ago
i speak/read english & hebrew fluently.

i know lots of food words in french (i tried once to write my entire shopping list in french & i could! that was exciting) since moving to canada. except i don't know how to pronounce any of them.

i know a hundred-odd words in yiddish but no grammar.
danced with Lazlo Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Yiddish has grammar??
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
You want it shouldn't?
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 6 months ago
I know a smattering of Sindarin and Quenya.

Of course my first language is Gordondon.
Rachel Marie aka RAI · 20 years, 6 months ago
Although SPEAK is a relative term!!

English, of course.

French I can read pretty much fluently, but don't ask me to form any coherent thought in it. I never learned how to do that.

ASL doesn't involve your vocal chords, so therefor, speech is not an appropriate term for it.

So I can "speak" one (and a quarter), read one, and sign one. :oD
iPauley Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
I hope you meant read two, and count English in that... otherwise, I'm not sure how you understood the question and other posts enough to reply... ;) (just teasin')
