English/Irish/Scottish and the like are the absolute sexiest. I can't often choose between the three. Australian and New Zealand...ish? are sexy too but not at the same level. :) The weird thing i find is that the accents above make me melt when spoken by men. With women, it doesn't have much of an effect. Pleasant, but not drool-worthy. Dunno why!

So lilting, flowing, and rounded...like a brook running over well-worn stones...

It really matters who's speaking. My favorite accent is from Arkansas... which is very different from "southern." But it only works for women... men with an Arkansan accent sound horrible.
If I could have any accent, I'd go for a Sean Connery Scottish brogue.
Rod Picott says that Arkansas women aren't very picky, I like that in a woman :-)
His GF is from Arkansas.

No votes for Midwestern? Might that have something to do with the nonexistence of the Midwestern accent?
For reasons that I can't quite explain, I never think of Minnesota (or Wisconsin, for that matter) as part of the Midwest.Minnesota has its own accent, as does Wisconsin... Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are just breeding grounds for future, accent-free newscasters.
you know, they say that, but.... i grew up in ohio, i live in bc now, there's a girl at my school from michigan &.... she has such a thick accent! but, at the same time, she sounds like my relatives. yeah, the "a"s are kind of nasal, & drawn out, or something.
you're conveniently ignoring the chicago accent, which kills my soul every time i hear it.
but still, it's not as bad as the accent in bawlmer. I'm hoping to develop the Chicago accent. :-) It's odd that I'm championing this cause. When we moved to Indiana, one of my seventh grade classmates asked if I could stop talking in that stupid California accent. I gave her a look that said, "Oh, like you have any room to talk about annoying accents."
how bout dem eeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, hoooooooooooown? let's geeeehoooo dow-nee-eeeeeeehhhhhoooooooooshin an drawrrrrrl with some CRAAAAEEEEHHHOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWNZ.
I happen to have a Midwestern accent! I get teased quite a bit.. hello from the Minnesota newbie!

I think Southern accents on women, not thick, but a soft one, are sexy. British by far is probably the sexiest for both genders in my opinion.
Anything sounds better in an English accent. "Right, I'm going to bash your head in with this axe, allright?". Guy I used to work with got annoyed by our fascination with his accent. One time he called a complaint line and the lady who answered said "Oh, I love your accent!". He said "That's all fine and dandy, but you realize I'm about to rip you a new arsehole?"
"That's all fine and dandy, but you realize I'm about to rip you a new arsehole?"
Which would, of course, sound really cool in an English accent ;-) And everytime I see this poll, I can't help but think of Strong Bad's children's book. "Some people have a southern accent, and those are hot! Trisha is a severe hottie."

Maybe it's because I live an hour away, but eh. Doesn't do it. At least not a heavy one.
Oh, and it's "Jersey" Not "Joi-sey".

i think anthony stewart head, dom monaghan, billy boyd, and john hannah should take turns reading the phone book to me every night before i go to sleep.
Mmmm. Best part of 4 weddings and a funeral, hearing John Hannah read the poem at the funeral. *swoon* Just the way he says "rest" is enough to slay me.
I always try to catch that part when it's on TV. Which is fairly often.

when I was a kid and learning English I found it so cool to sound British. That's why I now have this strange mixture of English/German accent and there's no use fighting it :)
And I love the New England accent as well. People pahking their cah in Hahvahd yahd. ;-D
Joy- new picture!

like English/Scottish/Irish. Just more Canadian. Yum.
Agreed. With those three in the same group, it's no wonder the votes are going there.
hmm. . . sorry aboot that. I think i just wanted to include some non-white people accents so it wasn't homogenized, and i needed room, so I lumped all the accents from the british isles together. forgive me? ;)

i voted southern because a nice, light, southern belle would easily melt me in my tracks.
of course, i once had a soft spot for french accents... (: -= george =-
What, you want they should make a separate choice for Jewish? New York isn't close enough for you? No - it's fine... leave it off of the poll. See if I care. I'll be over here putting tape over my mouth. You shouldn't worry.
well now, hmm. let's think about this. who adores a girl from New England and everything about her? hmm, i think his name might start with a "T"...?
