I was just wondering, is Moxy Fruvous your favorite group, or just another one of many bands? On many websites I get the vibe thatthose whojoin the site usually place the band the site's about as their favorite. So are the frulads your favorite?
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
i think rem will always be my all-time favorite band, but fruvous is definitely up there. i'm not obsessed like i was a few years ago, but when i listen to them, i always remember how much i love them. plus, they'll always get major points for changing my life, even tho they may never know it.

word. i practically grew up with moxy fruvous. every event in my life from age 12 to 20 has a fruvous soundtrack of some sort.

and, if i hadn't become a fruhead, i never would've found this site and i'd never have met all you amazing people. and i wouldn't be about to travel thousands of miles in two months' time to see you. *grin* :)

100% said yes! Oh wait. I'm the only one who's voted so far.
renita · 20 years, 3 months ago
I really love Fruvous.

However, i have no one single favourite band.

Right now I'm listening to my new Boogie Connection cd, for like the umpteenth time since I purchesed it Sunday night.
and i suspect that this is a band that will alway have a high place in my esteem.

It'd be impossible for me to pick a favourite. there's just whoever I'm identifying most with at the moment.
Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

I guess I should have made that a category as well, especially because that is how I feel. Oopsies! Personally, it is a tie between Moxy Fruvous, Aerosmith, ABBA, and then whatever group I am currently looking into as I progress in my "Hear every famous group" mission. Fruvous was my first obsession about a band. The year I discovered them, Iobtained every single CD (except C, the band had split by then). I am doing the same thing for ABBA and Aerosmith currently (which could be a problem; Aerosmith has 23 CDs out, and they're still releasing more). So I guess I kinda slipped up there on my poll. Thank you for all your feedback though!

I wonder how many people would list ABBA and Aerosmith as favorite bands... besides the two of us. :-)
renita Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
ahem

and this he says while replying to post that replied to a post by renita pretty ballerina

how quickly they forget.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
I didn't realize that renita pretty ballerina was an Aerosmith fan as well. Please forgive my oversight. :-)
renita Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
ah yah, okay i was missing the and.

you're right. i enjoy aerosmith, very much, but i don't know if i'd put them on a favorites list.

so yah, please forgive my oversight, i was just focusing on the ABBA part.
Rimbo · 20 years, 3 months ago
. . . eh. So hard to choose. Maybe I'm just non-committal, but I like Moxy for certain reasons, Ben Folds for others . . . etc. It's like asking what my favorite food is. Am I in a salty mood? A sweet mood? Hungry? Yes. Hungry. I'm hungry.
Phoenix · 20 years, 3 months ago
They're definitely up there. And I really <3 them. As a band that is. But if we were talking about my favorite artist the result would have been different...

Yeah. I'm actually more into girls with guitars anyway but everyone knows that
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
dwd, what's not to love about chicks with guitars? :)
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Exactly. They rule and rock the casbah in every possible way...

Oh count me in to join the Michael Stipe/Peter Buck fandom any time. There's even a wikipedia entry;-)

goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
mmmmmm, michael/peter slash. tho i think mike/bill would be even better...

oh, wait. we weren't talking about pairings, were we?
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

You've just mad my day :)

goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
yay!

now someone make my day and write me some. :)
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

and I forgot to mention that you should really change your username now to ol' buckhead or ol' stipehead.

Fruvous qualifies as one of my favorites, but I like lots and lots of other groups too.

I don't think I could consider one group as my most favoritest. I have trouble with committment. (but that's another matter)

Bruce Rose · 20 years, 3 months ago
As a formerly obsessive fan, I can say that at one time Fruvous was my favorite band. Looking back, I still think they were good... and I'd love to see them play and/or record again. I couldn't list them as truly great, but greatness is determined more by time than by consensus. Since then, by obsessiveness has turned to Dar Williams, the Nields, Eddie From Ohio, Kasey Chambers, and Robbie Fulks... with each enjoying their turn as my favorite. In my little world, favorite is different from all-time favorite. It applies to people, places, ice cream, movies, and music. As an example, my all time favorite movie is It's a Wonderful Life, but I'm not going to watch it every day (anymore). There was a time when I'd have said Cruel Intentions, Office Space, or Xanadu... but none of those is ever going to eclipse Capra. I've lost track of what I was saying... as usual. :-) So to go back and answer the question simply... No, not anymore. If you ask me who it is, I could either give you today's answer... or I could try to come up with an all time favorite. But I generally don't think of music that way.
Talcott · 20 years, 3 months ago
I would say they are the most important band for me. I don't know if they are really my favorite, but they have had the greatest impact on my life.
100% dainty! · 20 years, 3 months ago
Fruvous has been my favorite band for exactly a year. i know i'm still in the honeymoon period so i'm sure another band will catch my fancy in a few years, especially if the guys don't get back together (sniff sniff! hey, any word on the alleged reunion at Nassau . . ?)

WORD, Talcott, about them having the greatest impact on your life. mine too. they really are the music of my political coming-of-age. I am a pacifist literally because of "the gulf war song." And I learned soooo much (big picture stuff and little detail stuff, like who Doris Lessing is) from their songs. i could catalog it all. The reason they are my favorite band is their versatility, their heart, their voices, umm, their sexiness ;), and their intelligence. I have yet to find another band like that. individual singers, yes (stuart davis is SO up there, as is Jane siberry and susie chanteusie). but band? no one comes to close to moxy. and they need to get back together like now. like yesterday.
Nik Chaikin · 20 years, 3 months ago
All the way. i can't name another band i'd travel nearly 500 miles for and not even see.
Caroline · 20 years, 3 months ago
They are in my top five favorites. I have 5 bands/musicians that I love and cherish equally and all for different reasons. MF is in my top 5 for writing interesting, sad, funny, beautiful, silly, and just plain brilliant music. My top 5 also includes Rockapella and Paul Simon. Did you know that Jian wrote and recorded a song with Sean Altman formerly of Rockapella? It's kick ass. It's called Town No More. You should all check it out
100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

oooh. where can we get such a recording oh wise one?

John J. Ryan · 20 years, 3 months ago
But in terms of changing my life? They are right up there with They Might Be Giants, The Bosstones, and Billy Joel. All those acts have changed my life in some way. I guess that's another topic altogether.
nate... · 20 years, 3 months ago
I really enjoyed them when they were around, but, like others have said, I have no "favorite band/artist".

Is it weird that I still like every band I have ever liked?

I find it bizarre that people can stop liking music they once liked.... I just kinda keep adding new things.

Rachel Marie aka RAI · 20 years, 3 months ago
I dunno, sounds like a commerical. ;o)

Anyhoo, I had to vote "yes." I have yet to find ANY band that lives up to Frvous's charisma, charm, and music. Like, the music itself is awesome, but added to a live show atmosphere, it's just MINDBLOWING.

I remember at my first show watching them in AWE. (...Mostly watching Jian in awe. Good stage presence he had, PLUS, I had a thing for guys with long hair back in the day.) It was amazing what a great show they would put together. REPEATEDLY.

I don't listen to their CDs that often anymore, but when I do, all those great memories come flooding back and I feel great.

I dunno, I feel at home with Frvous. I wish they'd comeback.
100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

"PLUS, I had a thing for guys with long hair back in the day.) "

yeah, like Ian. . .

Rachel Marie aka RAI Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Shut up. :oP

If it weren't for ME you would NEVER have heard about Frvous, you know that right? Ha. ;o)
100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

;) wrong!! i saw fruvous in concert before i even met ian!!

BUT i will give you this. i didn't become obsessed with them till him. so there ya go. ;)

K-Lyn · 20 years, 3 months ago
Without the original fab four there might not be any Fru...

Plus "Let It Be" is the greatest pop song ever!
hkath · 20 years, 3 months ago
I think if they started touring again these numbers would probably shift dramatically towards the top.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
I'll agree with that. If Fruvous started touring (or even just recording) again, I could see them becoming my favorite band again. Maybe my one vote wouldn't count as a dramatic change, but I doubt I'd be alone.
Bruce Rose · 20 years, 3 months ago
There are so many votes saying "They're close, but someone else is better." Is this a case of "one band/artist is better," and, if so, who is that band/artist? I know R.E.M. was listed, and the Beatles... and it's possible that all the votes point to those two bands. But, if there is one band better than Fruvous, who is it?
Talcott Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
Well, for me, it was just that they are in the top cluster.
But Peter Mulvey and XTC come to mind as two bands/people I tend to listen to more often than Frvous. Still, neither has had the same effect on my life, and I'd see a live frvous show over either of them (well, maybe not XTC, but that's becasue a 20+ year touring hiatus trumps less than five ;-)
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 3 months ago
Fruvous was the band that I most enjoyed seeing live. That isn't quite the same thing as saying they were my favorite band. Purely musically I don't know if they make my top ten but there really isn't another act that I consistantly had more fun with.
Nathan · 20 years, 3 months ago
If I were to list my favorite bands, Frvous would probably come around sixth or seventh in the list. A really good band, but hardly my favorite. I think they could have ranked higher if I'd seen them live more times (I get the idea that most people who DO consider them the best are people who attended a lot of concerts; I only saw them live once), and/or if they had released more albums. As far as the albums go, I'd say Bargainville and Wood are masterpieces, and YWGTTM and Thornhill nowhere near as great.

My favorite band is TMBG, and I think it would be difficult for any other band to knock them out of the top spot, but it's possible, I suppose.
Alan Mendelsohn · 20 years, 3 months ago
Dwd. No. The Moody Blues. Of course I'm in denial about everything they did after 1975, la.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
but...but...i remember the taste of that vintage wine, from '63 to '69!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 3 months ago
They did things after 1975?
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 3 months ago

hehe. After 1975. hrm.

But Justin Hayward participated in Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation of H. G. Wells War Of The Worlds. With so many great musicians. And Richard Burton reciting the spoken word parts. This is awesome beyond awesomeness. Everyone should have this double CD.

And I looooove Justin's Forever Autumn. Word.
