it's my poll!! will people like my poll? and i voted for foreign substance. when i'm sad i smoke A LOT.
I have to say that I drown my stress in alcohol when nothing else is working...
but I try to find someone to laugh with.. People who know how I deal with pain will tell you that laughter (and random silliness) is my drug, baby! ~J~

Best poll for quite some time, except, I never encountered sorrows, so I can only make a guess at how I would react to them. Let's see, uhm, yes, alcohol might dull the pain, music will soothe and hashish distract. A good cry is temporarily cathartic.
P.S. I'm permanently pissed, stoned, surrounded by "the art of the fugue" and teary-eyed for purely prophylactic reasons.
Yay! Stevie Smith reference. Poetry does it for me, plus blues music and really dark chocolate.

My soothing music of choice? David Matheson by David Matheson. He's this really great Canadian artist. He used to be in some band. You've probably never heard of it.

I eat chocolate while listening to music.
If I want to cheer myself up I listen to upbeat music. If I want to wallow in it I'll listen to Bob Dylan's Desolation Row

Where the hell is my "all of the above" optopn?! ;-)
Actually what I usually do is call you. Then eat chocolate while listening to music and reading Tolkien.
reading is good, too. i go for betsy-tacy, ramona quimby, or alan mendelsohn. nice comfort reading.
Idon't have the Ramona books. :( I got them all out at the library when I was a kid. :(
I wish they would put that series on DVD. I remember watching it in '91 after I had my wisdom teeth pulled. That was a comfort video...like Anne of Green Gables. :)
awww! i loved that series. and jodie from today's special had a guest role as the school receptionist!
Today's Special was the one in the department store after hours? Kind of like the movie Mannequin, but educational. And without Andrew McCarthy.
Remember Pinwheel? I went to the Anne of Green Gables homestead in Prince Edward Island this past summer. Wonderfully hokey.
i was all down feeling last week. then i had a nice long soak in a lavendar and vanilla scented bubble bath, a cup of cocoa with massive numbers of little marshmallows and i curled up in bed and read "the secret garden"
nothing like bubbles, chocolate, and comfort reading to make you feel all better!
Hmmm....Ellen taking a Bubble bath whille I feed her chocolates, Hot Cocoa with Marshmellows in them and then curling up in bed with her would make all my problems melt away.....

a hot bath with a good book, followed by loud Rufus Wainwright and Leonard Cohen, lying on/in bed (newly raised up and supported by milk crates, being rocked by gravity) in a dark room with a candle burning.
... come to think of it, that's happened a lot in the past couple of weeks. But there's nothing like Rufus and Cohen to heal your wounds and bruises.

oO whenever my life gets me so down, i know i can go down to where the music and the fun never ends! as long as the music keeps playing, you know what i'm saying! i know that i can find a friiiiieeeeeeeeeend down at the ROUND HOUSE! Oo
yeah, you know you're singing along. god, how i miss that show. which brings be back to my agreement with carey on the last poll--long live preteen melodrama! :)
Did Roundhouse Alumni ever "make" it in the entertainment industry?
yeah, she was the "lead singer" during the first season. i forgot to mention her before.
reprise the theme song and roll the credits!
god, i loved that show. at least during the first two seasons. john crane and his armchair, the principal with the intercom head, the random dance sequences...good times. :) and re: john's question, ivan dudynsky (the blond dude) was in a few movies like newsies. he's the only one i know of who did anything noteworthy after the show.
actually, there's a website devoted to the alums somewhere... well, here's one http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/1377/
but you do know that dominic lucero (who was one of the roundhouse/newsies crossovers along w/ ivan d) died of lymphomic cancer in 1994... :-( http://www.geocities.com/Broadway/Alley/8804/ ok, gotta go, but yes, reprise the theme song and roll the credits! long live roundhouse!! :)
Confirming the theory that somewhere out there, there's a website for EVERYTHING.
yeah, i think he died during the run of the show, and they kept him in the opening credits as a memorial to him.
"oh, stop talking about sex! you're always on about it, morning, noon, and night! 'will the girls like this? will the girls like that? is this too big? is that too small?'"
ahem.
o/~ let's talk about sex babeee....let's talk about you and meeee o/~

I chose the popcorn/movie/friends thing because that was the closest I could get, but I tell you it's all about food. Comfort food. Like popcorn... and grilled cheese sandwiches... and macaroni and cheese. Yep, it's food.
I went for other.
because yah. I'm all about the comfort food. ume boshi and salt&vinegar chips. or fries... or hash browns... or sometimes doughnuts... (the glazed wrinkly kind, hostess makes a version and they call them old fashioned) or fresh bread and butter. or coffee. or. or. or. I'm all about the food.
po-tay-toes. ultimate comfort food. well, ultimate non-chocolate comfort food, anyway.

Hmph, some poll, no spot for potheads. oh wait, i'm not one anymore...what the hell am i talking about? well, i guess foreign substance could be applied to this. trying to keep this post within reasonable guidelines in the event that minors read these posts. i felt it was relatively un-PC (for lack of better term) to bring up such a topic on such a friend/family based medium, but then again, folk singers tend to be hip to the proverbial groove. :)
