strangly enough...mine is "Real Slim Shady"...mind you i have no love for eminem...but the guy that does this at our pub is really good and ad-libs most of the lyrics...really funny. of course we just go to laugh at everyone else, we never sing (yet)

I actually sang karaoke once. My friend who actually sings worse than I do wanted to do it and I try to be supportive. In any event it was at a Mensa party and she was the member not me. We sang King of the Road. Later on at the party someone came up to me and said, "that was very brave of you." I thought it put it well. I'm not sure if my partner realized how bad we were.
As an intersting aside, Rod Picott and Dave's True Story, musicians I love and know well, both sing King of the Road. Maybe they got the idea from me.

My old roommate (who was russian) singing Scorpions' "Wings of Change" at a wedding reception :-)
My other favorite is the surealist music videos I saw on a screen at some bar in Columbus. They had "Eat It", but the video can only be described as "Devo-Erotica". Erm, but I don't sing ;-)
um... did they have bohemian rhapsody with barbie dolls?

Haven't karaoked much in my life (like twice...I really don't sing unless I'm with others and even then I may even lip sync), but I remember having fun with a couple of songs:
"It's the End of the World as We Know It" - REM "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor What I find most amusing is watching the accompanying video that goes along with the song. Very cheesy and trippy stuff. Word on the "I Will Survive." Another personal favorite: "You Sexy Thing."
heh. I've done "End of the World," too, and the thing I found really amusing was that the lyrics that scrolled by on the screen were nothing at all like the actual lyrics to the song. they actually threw me off at one point. "Wait, that's not how it goes."
but it was fun - I was there with a large group, and got everyone to shout "LEONARD BERNSTEIN" and answer "Right." at the end of the last verse, which was really cool.
i remember the video for "daydream believer" being especially bad...and the words were changed around, too. maddie's mommy can probably back me up here. :)

It was Roman's birthday so we sang it to each other whilst very drunk and a little emotional....
He forgot how the bridge went and just rambled through it I forgot how to hold a tune. Fil told me I was good. What a way to discover your boyfriend is capable of telling a bald lie. Worst Karaoke rendition. My Dad -"Wild Thing". He won a bottle of Sangria for being the worst singer. Quite an acheivement
my dad sang "under my thumb." He is SO not Mick Jagger! he's more like the king in "Aladin." ...short, fat, and bald.
but totally adorable!

I can't believe how many people have NOT posted that they love karaoke!! no, not "loathe," love!!
I am an absolute karaoke fiend. the songs I over-do personally are "Like a Prayer" (its in my range, ok?!) and "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls. Very popular with the hicks in Montana. also over-done in karaoke bars in MT is "Good-Bye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks. I must have heard it a hundred times in the bowling alley before I ever actually heard the Dixie Chicks do it! ...so, is anyone else a fiend??

I've never sung karaoke, but I used to attend weekly. From the safety of the barstool, I hit every note and knew all the words without the prompting. :-)
I think my favorite songs are "Someday, Someway" (Marshall Crenshaw), Take Me To The River (Talking Heads), and anything by Gary Glitter. For my first performance, I plan to sing "Jessie's Girl" (Rick Springfield)... but I don't know when or if that's coming.
no, that was a horrible movie. can anyone explain to me what was so amazing about it? I have this terrible feeling that I just dont "get it." I thought it was the most atrocious, boring, inane movie I have ever seen.
It captured the experience of being a westerner in Japan perfectly. Everything is familiar, yet somehow unfathomable, having been put through their cultural filter. The Japanese seem to have a need to make things into archetypes - so there is a formalism to things we treat casually that is very strange. The movie showed the isolation one can experience, despite being surrounded by people, and which drives the ambiguous, unlikely relationship between Murray & Johansen.
It was definitely a movie meant to show an experience, rather than driven by a strong plot, and it did so with a patient, frequently funny prespective. It's clearly not for everyone, but if you "get it," it's a very memorable film.

"Wild Wild West" by Escape Club - no one remembers that they know it, but they all do.
"These Boots are Made for Walkin'" by Nancy Sinatra - a good choice if you can't sing any better than Nancy Sinatra. On the DVN trip, I did "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees. I believe the only witness there that I knew was Skippy's brother. A bit too low of a register, but I cheesed it up with plenty of dancin' - so I think the crowd dug it. And the Diamonds are Forever lounge can hold a big crowd.
My friend Zack does a killer version of "Wild Wild West." He drops the third verse and adds in the first verse from Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up." It's magnificent. :-)

if i ever got bold, or crazy, or drunk enough...i think i'd try and have a go at Billy Joel's "We didn't Start The Fire". I think i could sing it correctly if the words were there...i sing along enough to it in the car :-)

My favorite times singing karaoke were in a small town on the southish side of Chicago doing The B-52's "Rock Lobster" with a girl friend and the karaoke jock... the jock was even throwing effects on our voices so I think it even sounded cool! And... you can NEVER go wrong singing Tom Jones in a bar full of drunks... "She's A Lady." Whoa, whoa whoa!
