no, I meant neither the ocean nor a cruise..... I meant being out on the ocean... alone... on a boat.

most definitely the city. There's nothing better than waking up early on a summer morning in the city to watch the rush hour traffic go by. it's incredible. *sigh*

But... cities are kinda cool to visit... I just put "visit" or "experience" in a different area than "vacation".

Give me the rolling hills, lush greenery and about 250 acres of Texas Hill Country. Guadalupe River and great towns like Friericksburg, Hamilton, and Kerrville.

Once a city person, always a city person. While I enjoy going out on hikes and experiencing nature, I tend to gravitate towards cities when on vacation (with visits to green spaces)...I'm strange that way, I guess.

I voted for city but natural wonders are way up there. I love nature and I love cities, I'm not fond of what's in between.

friends & relatives visiting?

I don't care where I am, for the most part, as long as there's not a set schedule.

Too many "vacations" I've been on have ended up being more hectic than relaxing. So I've become all about the zen-trip recently. It's not that I mind "doing stuff" -- I love doing stuff! -- it's more about not feeling disappointed that I didn't get every single thing on my list checked off, or having to deal with hurt feelings, or whatever.

Of course, having said that, I've had better luck with relaxing when I've been somewhere reasonably far away from civilization stuck in a bivy on the side of a mountain rather than in a new city (where there inevitably happens to be a wedding I'm attending, these days).

��� I love places like St Michael's Md (where Andy and I had our honeymoon) and Cape May.� Cute little towns with fun shops and pretty old buildings and a great view of the ocean or the Chesapeake bay.� I like the beach to a certain extent, but I don't like the whole cheesy boardwalk, spending hours on hot sand, etc. beach experience.

It's the people more than the place, though when we lived in the midwest, our favorite trip was to NYC. But then we got to live there for five years and I would think most every day, "I can't believe I get to live here." Now all of my dream trips would be to the people I want to visit. Any spot can be a dream.

Complete agreement with that. There is nothing like just driving and seeing where the road will take you. It's taken me from Tennessee to Montana to Oregon to Las Vegas, and while I liked some of those places more than others, just seeing could happen, and being to chose anything is awesome.

while i can't really afford it, my favorite thing so far as been to visit another country :) and i'd like to go visit more.

..yeah, that's all i got. :D

I voted natural wonders, and I'm a big national parks fan. But depending on what I'm in the mood for -- and my vacation moods change mercurially -- I could have a blast with any of these. I think I'd be really bored if I took the same sort of vacation, or went to the same place, all the time.

Of the options, I was most torn between the city and the beach.� I ended up choosing the beach, since I now live in (or at least near) the city.� The city is more of a day trip than a vacation.

I'm also a big fan of naval and maritime museums.� Those usually happen in coastal towns.

Of course, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned a certain hillside in New York yet.� That's another of my favorite trips. :-)

I chose the beach, but usually its more qualified as scaling the clifs near two lights down to where the puffins bask and the tide pools reveal.... thats not really vacation though, thats my everyday and I loves it. frff is my fave vaca spot. ... ... except when the man with the freaking racoon puppets sneaks up on you, freak. dude. ;-)

My typical vacation is liek getting on a plane to a distant country meeting lots of cool people and enjoying as much live music as possible:)

I think my dream vacation right now, is to go on a huge roadtrip on a bike.

a nice bmw r65 or r80 would be cool.
or the ducati monster 650--if we're dreaming *sigh*

just ride and ride for weeks on end, going places, riding over mountains, through valleys across prairies. yum.
