Johnny Cash died, the second music great to die this week, coming on the heels of Warren Zevon. I don't know if anyone mentioned him on the greatest songwriter or singers list but he belonged on both. Folsom Prison Blues is one of the greatest songs ever.
I figured we could use this thread to post obits of anyone we care about.
Is everyone aware that he wrote Cry Cry Cry from when the trio took their name?
thank you, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrodan for mentioning johnny's passing.
here at work everyone is going ON and on about john ritter's passing and when i mentioned johnny's passing, everyone was like 'so what...who cares...he was old.....', totally denying any impact he had on our culture or his contributions. yes. i work with assholes.
"so what...who cares...he was old?" god, shell, you *do* work with assholes. even if someone's death is expected, like johnny cash and warren zevon, it doesn't negate the contributions they've made. and it really doesn't make it any less sad.
THANK, YOU, CARE!!!!!
for a moment i thought i was a bitch{which they told me i was being when i got pissy over this} they said that his passing was expected, he was old, and that after june carter cash dies, no one expected him to last very long anyway...etc..... what IS it about me and finding jobs with assholes????? am i an asshole magnet????
Johnny Cash's passing wasn't really expected. The day before he died it went out on the wire that he was released from the hospital and was flying out next week to work on his new album.
I think it was.
I read a few articles in the past week or two that he wasn't in the best of health. Then I saw a picture of him, and yes, he looked like the articles stated. yeah, everything i read alluded to the fact that what was left of his health was dwindling and that his days were numbered. being released from the hospital doesn't necessarily mean he's doing much better. they made a big deal out of the fact that he wasn't at the MTV video music awards due to his illness. he also had a history of running himself into the ground with various chemicals. go figure... -= george =-
he does get some points for marrying ted and georgette on the mary tyler moore show. while wearing a tennis uniform, no less.
three's company ... like, hi. guest appearance on m*a*s*h. one of the most amazing physical comedians i've ever seen; i remember watching a rerun of him improv with robin williams back in the mork 'n minday days. holy cow he was incredible. that underrated actor got himself an emmy for three's company, and a stack of nominations for such things as the voice of clifford the dog. (: either way, both of them will be very missed. -= george =-
Bad Carey and I said that he was the scariest monster on Buffy, not Ted, John Ritter. We dreaded what would be next -- Suzanne Somers playing a thighmaster demon?
I'm so jealous, you weren't subjected to Three's Company. I had actually looked forward to the show because I had seen the English version, Man About the House and it was funny.

I've been really sad today about our culture's two losses. I was busy at work, and couldn't really focus on them, but I am really sad.
That's as articulate as I am right now. Oh, also I had clinical rotations in the hospital where Johnny Cash died. It's kind of weird to have been where he was when he went. Makes it a bit more real to me.

i was even listening to johnny cash this morning, didn't hear about his death till this evening. totally floored me. i loved johnny cash, i only picked 3 favorite bands for fhdc and he was one of them... :(
then again, 'twasn't surprising i suppose. i don't know many old men that survive their wives passing (alternately, i know many more old women who have survived their men). it was nice to see at least one junky cleaned up, glad to hear that his death wasn't drug related (respitory illness due to diabetes is what's reported here) is it irony that zil wanted to use her diabetes to remember johnny's passing and he died because of diabetes? strange thoughts rip johnny cash
