I don't own a cell phone or a cordless phone in my dorm. I rarely use the phone, but sometimes I need to. Like yesterday. I needed to, cause I was horribly ill and needed a mommy to take care of me. Of course, it didn't work, but I did get some cold medicine, apple juice, cookies, and an extra pillow out of it. I seem to have strayed a bit from the original brief...
i do the exact same thing. my boyfriend & i both have cells on my employee plan, but the LL gets all the telemarketers.sometimes i do think it's a waste of money, but i just can't get rid of it.

i don't especially dig phones. if i'm using a phone, it's probably because i can't use a computer instead, and that's usually because i'm out and about, which means i'm using my cell. uh, yeah.
Except when you're in remote areas (i.e. Long Hill Farm) and have crappy service (i.e. Sprint). :P

Pretty obvious that I would use my cell phone when I'm not home and can get a signal (again, it's that crappy Sprint service). But when I'm at home it does depend on what kind of call I'm making. Local calls, I tend to use my cordless land-line phone, unless someone else is tying up the line. For long distance, I almost always use my cell. Iwould also use my cell for local calls if I forget the number and I'm too lazy to look it up on my Palm or Outlook and it's already programmed into my cell. I also have a corded land-line phone, whichIfound to be very useful duringthis past summer's blackout, as the phone lines did not goout in my apartment building.

I do have a cordless land-line phone but it's cursed with a bad battery whereas my cell phone keeps up to 10 days without recharging - and has more features, ... Besides I've always been of the opinion that phones were invented for transmitting data and not voice - the odds are that I behave accordingly when using a phone and I'm afraid there's not one single person on this planet who really likes having a phone conversation with me ;-(

I don't like the phone much. It's usually a nuisance rather than a convenience to me. I'd rather talk to people via email or in person.
That said, I own a cell for travelling, one cordless landline, and a corded landline on each floor of the house. I like the corded variety best, for security reasons -- epecially since most of my "talking" on the phone involves banking or other financial transactions. The other 2 also tend to get lousy reception.

I have a black rotary desk phone made in the 80's and a pink rotary princess phone made in the 60's. They're great because they always work (no problems with power outages or batteries dying like in cordless phones) and because they look really cool. The sound is great on corded phones, which it isn't on a lot of cordless phones, there is no delay in the ring when someone calls, it's harder for people to listen in to your conversations, and I find them a lot more reliable in general than cordless phones. I did cave in and get a cordless phone with push buttons as well as my rotary phones, but Ionly use it for things likeordering pizza and phone banking, whenI need to press buttons.
