Mollie Driscoll 2/7/69-12/28/07

   Discussion: Mollie Driscoll 2/7/69-12/28/07

As many of you know from here or her blog, Mollie has been fighting a recurrent brain tumor for the past 2 years. Last week she had started on a new set of medications, and we were optimistic that she'd have a lot more time, but that wasn't to be. She died in the local emergency room last night. Mollie dedicated her working life to providing prenatal care to underprivileged women at Planned Parenthood, so if you feel moved to do something, a small donation in her honor to your local Planned Parenthood would be a fitting tribute. I realize that's not everyone's cup of tea, but any donation in support of children, such as to your local or school library, would have made her vary happy. We haven't sorted out funeral/memorial details yet so I'm unsure where or when it will be. Since we're left coasters I don't expect anyone to come, but I'll post details when I know them. We found each other on this site, and she found so much love and support here. Thank all of you for being part of our lives. Jonathan Simon

oh Jonathan. I'm so sorry. Mollie was a fantastic person. Full of love and hope and fight. She will be greatly missed. The world is far less sparkly today.

I hope you don't mind, but i'm going to copy this to LiveJournal with a link back to here so those who don't lurk here can know.

Both you and Mollie are in my thoughts.

jonathan, i'm so sorry to hear this. i'd fallen out of contact with mollie over the last few years, but she was an incredibly supportive long-distance friend to me during some very, very dark times in my life, and i will always be grateful to her for that. my thoughts are with you and with your families.

Oh my god I'm so sorry. I know we all knew this was a possibility but the reality is hard to bear. She was wonderful and I'm so sorry we weren't ever able to connect and meet as hoped. :(

*hugs* my thoughts are with you

I'm so sorry. While I never had the chance to know her personally, it saddens me that a kind soul has left this earth.

Jonathan, I'm so, so sorry. I had just been corresponding with her briefly for the past few weeks, but didn't get a chance to answer her last message. I regret that deeply now. She was a good, caring, dedicated woman who fought hard for what she believed in, and then fought just as hard for her life.  I know she loved you and your doggies dearly, and I can't even begin to fathom your own sense of loss. May she rest in peace, and may knowing that she made a profound difference in this world give you some peace of mind.

In deepest sympathy,
Lori

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. They mean a lot to me. There will be an informal memorial for Mollie on Saturday, January 5th from 11 AM to 4 PM at their residence: 22363 Moyers St. Castro Valley, CA 94546 (510) 690-9461 There will not be a formal service - just people who loved Mollie sharing their joy at knowing her and their loss of her passing. I don't know the etiquette of these things... should I put some note on her livejournal and myspace pages about her death?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 17 years, 2 months ago
Yes. For years I gave all my passwords to friend and told her to post if something happened to me. It helped when I was in the hospital for a month. It is probably the best way of making sure that people who should know do know. It isn't a matter of etiquette but of consideration. It is the modern equivalent of putting a death notice in the newspaper.

Hi, Jonathan. I googled Mollie's name and stumbled across this site. She introduced me to Moxy Fruvous (as well as Eddie from Ohio and DiVinci's Notebook). HOw I miss her.

I agree that it would be very appropriate for you to put something on her livejournal and myspace pages. It will let those communities know about her passing.  What you posted here was very nicely done.

I sent a note on to the VSN midwives group. Barbara Petersen would like to contact Mollie's mom and sister but doesn't have their adr.  Can I put her in touch with you?
