I mean...even their *name* is "one-hit wonder." (OK, I know they're fictional....but come on, they're so the coolest.)
oO Well I try and try to forget you, girl, but it's just so hard to do..every time you do that thing you do. Oo

and that song was written by Fountains of Wayne.... what more could you ask for??
And sung by Mike Viola of the Candy Butchers!! Again what more could you ask for?
Well...I could ask to not be earwormed...
But it's my own fault. *Sigh. *Hums....
I thought it was just written by Adam? I know that's picking a big nit, but....:)
FOW rock my socks! Wheee! :) I constantly have Red Dragon Tattoo in my head lately with all the Red Dragon movie ads on TV.

my bro was in the indiana university marching [band] hundred for his 4 years there. when they do their run-on for the pre-show, they count off when they hit their opening mark. back when "jenny" came out, some wiseass decided to switch 6 and 7, making it "8-6-7-5-4-3-2-HUT!" and it STUCK. i think it's hilarious, because people who don't know the history are like "huh?"...that is, those who actually care enough about marching band to pay attention. but then again, the hundred ROCKS, so you HAVE to pay attention. :)
Any Midwest (and Texas) Marching Band rocks by definition. If it's not football (or basketball in Indiana), band is a very worthy alternative, and has the same status as someone in sports.
In NJ, it's sports or nothing.

That one is debatable since they had two hit videos on the Friday night videos fights on MTV in the 1980s that were winners for many weeks - We're Not Gonna Take it and I Wanna Rock from their album 'stay hungry.' (contrary to what VH-1's list states) If the second song never charted in the top 100, then they could be considered a one hit wonder. (however it did - the week of October 27, 1984 it was number 79)
Thomas Dolby also had other songs like "Hyperactive" which had heavy airplay on MTV in the 1980s after "She Blinded me with Science." How about: Tracey Ullman with They Don't Know Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz Kajagoogoo - Too Shy Saga - On the Loose JoBoxers - Just Got Lucky Moving PIctures - What About Me? Oxo - Whirly Girl Shannon - Let the Music Play Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie Re-Flex - The Politics of Dancing Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio (all of these early 80s) So what classifies as a one hit wonder? I'd like to know because there was a different classification in my Music206 Foundations of Jazz and Rock when I was in College along with Music205 American Popular Music.
Actually I take that back because Tracey Ullman did the song "Breakaway" which was another video that had heavy MTV airplay during the time of "They Don't Know." That was her first hit in England before "They Don't Know."

Dude, we are *SO* not gonna take it!!!
Yeah! My theme song!
Those two videos with the actor from um...was it Animal House? Mark Metcalf who played Doug Neidermeyer.
"Alright mister what do you think you're doing? You call this a room, this is a pigsty I want you straighten up this area NOW! YOU ARE A DISGUSTING SLOB STAND UP STRAIGHT TUCK IN THAT SHIRT ADJUST THAT BELT BUCKLE TIE THOSE SHOES Twisted SISTAH what is that?!" *while he's spitting on his son* I love that video! :D I voted for it every week on the Friday Night Video fights. :)

I found myself thinking, what about the Divinyls song "Pleasure and Pain"? What about Edie Brickell's "Me by the Sea"? Can there be a two-hit wonder? (Maybe I just grew up listening to weird radio.)
What about bands who _seemed_ as if they were going to be one-hit wonders, who kept releasing albums and developed significant cult followings? My prime candidate is Radiohead (because "Creep" got played so much when I was in high school, and they disappeared from the mainstream for a while), but I'd entertain other suggestions.
Good point! I guess Weezer falls into this group as well. And there's this one band from Canada that had this hit awhile back.. "King of Spain" or something like that. Rumor has it they still have a cult following. ;-)
Who did that song "King of Spain?"
Mopy Frootloops? Moxy Freeze-us? damn, I can't remember!
Aren't those Barenaked Ladies really ladies who are barenaked?
:o And while we're at it, didn't they have only one hit? or was just one week?
Yup Rachel I was thinking the same thing with those two bands/singers as well.
I think one hit wonder is someone/band that has one song and then you never hear from them again. Like the 1960s song "Reach out in the Darkness" by Friend and Lover. Where were they after that? If someone can find their follow up song, more power to them. :)
from BBConline
"Come on Eileen" was the biggest selling single in '82, it sold 1.2 million copies. But I think they had other hits in England.

This has always been one of my favorites along with "They Don't Know" (ok, maybe I just like the vid with Paul McCartney), "My Sharona", and "Safety Dance"

Maybe i just wasn't paying attention during the eighties when i was like... 5, but i dont think A-ha had anything big besides "take on me" hurry up and tell me if i'm wrong cuz oO i'll beee gonnnnnnnnnneeeeeeee in a day or twoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Oo
You're wrong.
Second song and video by them was "The SUn Always Shines on TV." It was a sequel to Take On Me.
oO where ya from...you sexy thing....Oo
ok.. my fave, but I support the Oneders too.. much fun! ~J~
Not a one hit wonder.
They had other songs "Emma" and "Every 1's a Winner." All found on Rhino's Super Hits of the 70s. :)
