This was a very tough choice between Jefferson and Franklin. Franklin was an actual scientist, one of my people, a major figure of the enlightenment. I ended up voting for Jefferson because I like his politics more. He might not have been a scientist but he was a scientific thinker and a brilliant man. One more thing: oO He plays the violin/ he tucks it right under his chin...Oo

he was responsible for saying 'Those who would sacrifice a little liberty for a little safety deserve neither.'

our current leaders would do well to listen to him.

Perhaps you should read more of them yourself, given what I've read of your opinions on the proper role of government.

I quoted that in one of my letters to the President.

'...and will lose both.'

I've been playing too much Civ IV

I would have to go with Washington, since he was dragged into the Presidency. His Farewell Address should be required reading.

Jefferson is a close second, with Franklin and John Adams in third.

I can't believe you're making me choose! Haha. It was close, though, between Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, and Washington. I picked Jefferson just because he's the one I know the most about, and I like his politics.

Do you agree that if this poll was taken by the general public Washington would be the leader?
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Most likely, I'd agree with that. We took a poll in my American History class last year, he won by a landslide. Of course, that was only dealing in Presidential policy. But still.

I dunno - Sam Adams might have an unfair advantage. Better advertising, y'know.
lawrence Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
in a landslide. the general public probably wouldn't know who half the others are.

Poor James Madison. He write the constitution and what thanks does he get?
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
A city in Wisconsin. And he was president. :)
nate... Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I don't think having to be president is necessarily "thanks". ;)

caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
Heh. But he wanted to be... so whether it was thanks or not, it was his problem. ;)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I don't think having a city in Wisconsin named after you is necessarily "thanks." It is really cold there. And what is any of it worth if he doesn't get any fruhead love? Isn't that what really matters?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 3 months ago
I have now earwormed myself with Frank Zappa's Dirty Love but with "fruhead" substituted for "dirty."
