Napoleon Dynamite
See this one after you've had a couple of drinks. It'll heighten the "WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?" factor. Actually one of the things that I find funniest is that he reminds me of Ben Folds. there's a guy that goes to my college that looks just like pedro. he doesn't believe it though... his name is jose. and he doesn't believe anyone who walks up to him and says 'build her a cake or something..." *LOVE* it

When I first heard about it, I was like "Oh...it's one of *those* movies..." (see title of post) I did see it, because the references in school couldn't be escaped. It was pretty funny, looking back at the stuff, but while I was watching it, I was like "When's the funny part gonna start?" Actually, it was neat how they did it, and how the dust bowl town and stuff were pretty realistic. And some of the stuff is just hilarious.

That's how I felt watching Rushmore. Except, that wasn't even remotely entertaining.... and it's not even funny when you look back on it. :) Tried to get through the whole thing 3 times, then gave up and returned it. rushmore is another one that you cant go into expecting a plot. i did and i hated it at first. my ex loved it, though, so after watching it for the umpteenth time, i finally appreciated the geekiness and the subtle humor of it. for both of these movies you have to really, really like deadpan. and awkwardness.

when i first saw it, it reminded me of todd solondz's films, like welcome to the dollhouse or fear and depression. i work in a computer lab which has a side lab of its own. inside that side lab, we have a projected screen which runs off an overhead connected toone of the computers in the room. there have been several nights where i've showed napoleon on that. LOVED it!
Joy- new picture!

I thought it was reasonably funny, but it's been interesting watching the reactions with my home friends (who adore it) and my college friends (who don't) and frankly, I think it hits a little too close to home for us Swatties...

Napoleon Dynamite is the spitting image of my brother. It's wierd and freaky and creepy.
same hair, same voice, same maneurisms. totally freaky. but it made me laugh my ass off. I think it's much funnier when you KNOW that guy, and you KNOW that town, and you WERE that girl... ugh. was I really that awkward?
thank god, no, there are no pictures of that ponytail. but I remember it.

Check out their site for their Napoleon Dynamite soundboard, which has most of the quotable quotes from the film.
This film actually is right along the lines in terms of having a pre-packaged teeny-bopper pop-star in a role that they were born to play (Mandy Moore in Saved! and Haylie Duff in this one). You must first create an account to post.
