I loved this movie. i can't stop watching it. what did you all think?
Talcott Back · 20 years ago
I want to see it, but, alas, no money to buy it or rent it.

Someday I'll see it ;-)
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago

No interest.

nate... Back · 20 years ago
I was kinda "eh" about it... but... I may just not have been in the right headspace....
That's important with me and movies.

I'll have to re-watch it one of these days.
angelmusicmaven Back · 20 years ago

See this one after you've had a couple of drinks. It'll heighten the "WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?" factor.

Actually one of the things that I find funniest is that he reminds me of Ben Folds.

Mollie Back · 20 years ago
loved it! Hilarious!
lawrence Back · 20 years ago
it's definitely high up there on my list. I think I need to buy it now, too.
Annika Back · 20 years ago
I loved it and bought it.. then gave it away and bought it again.
Sally M Block Back · 20 years ago

there's a guy that goes to my college that looks just like pedro.

he doesn't believe it though...

his name is jose.

OMG Jose is at the club???? Good Times.....the premiere of our 1, 2, Step.... :-)

and he doesn't believe anyone who walks up to him and says 'build her a cake or something..."

*LOVE* it

sheryls Back · 20 years ago

hee! it's the moustache.

you should ask him how long it took him to grow it. :D

nate... Back · 20 years ago
Probably about 2 days.

;D

Misch Back · 20 years ago
Get it right! It's not "GOSH. IDIOT.", it's "You insensitive clod!"
sheryls Back · 20 years ago
no, YOU get it right. napoleon never says "you insensitive clod."
Cali · 20 years ago
i thought it sucked
caroline: tired. · 20 years ago
When I first heard about it, I was like "Oh...it's one of *those* movies..." (see title of post) I did see it, because the references in school couldn't be escaped. It was pretty funny, looking back at the stuff, but while I was watching it, I was like "When's the funny part gonna start?" Actually, it was neat how they did it, and how the dust bowl town and stuff were pretty realistic. And some of the stuff is just hilarious.
sheryls Back · 20 years ago

i was warned that there was no plot. so i didnt expect one :P

s'why i love it so much i think. if i went into it looking for a good story, i probably would have been disappointed :D

nate... Back · 20 years ago
while I was watching it, I was like "When's the funny part gonna start?"

That's how I felt watching Rushmore.
Except, that wasn't even remotely entertaining.... and it's not even funny when you look back on it. :)
Tried to get through the whole thing 3 times, then gave up and returned it.

sheryls Back · 20 years ago

rushmore is another one that you cant go into expecting a plot. i did and i hated it at first. my ex loved it, though, so after watching it for the umpteenth time, i finally appreciated the geekiness and the subtle humor of it.

for both of these movies you have to really, really like deadpan. and awkwardness.

Songbill Back · 20 years ago
I didn't like Rushmore the first time I saw it either, but it has since become one of my favorites. Yes, deadpan is good.
Michael (foof) Maki Back · 20 years ago
So...were you in the shit?
Songbill Back · 20 years ago
Yeah, I was in the shit.
Sally M Block · 20 years ago

when i first saw it, it reminded me of todd solondz's films, like welcome to the dollhouse or fear and depression.

i work in a computer lab which has a side lab of its own. inside that side lab, we have a projected screen which runs off an overhead connected toone of the computers in the room. there have been several nights where i've showed napoleon on that.

LOVED it!

Joy- new picture! · 20 years ago
I thought it was reasonably funny, but it's been interesting watching the reactions with my home friends (who adore it) and my college friends (who don't) and frankly, I think it hits a little too close to home for us Swatties...
Dan · 20 years ago
It was Ok, it wasn't that great, but it wasn't horrible. It had its moments.
Ligeia Lester · 20 years ago
Napoleon Dynamite is the spitting image of my brother. It's wierd and freaky and creepy.

same hair, same voice, same maneurisms. totally freaky. but it made me laugh my ass off. I think it's much funnier when you KNOW that guy, and you KNOW that town, and you WERE that girl... ugh. was I really that awkward?
sheryls Back · 20 years ago

did you have that ponytail?

i'll love you forever if you have pictures.

Ligeia Lester Back · 20 years ago
thank god, no, there are no pictures of that ponytail. but I remember it.

(shudders)
Bender · 20 years ago
... but I was under the impression that it was some kind of Mormon dealie.

but I haven't seen it, so.
lawrence Back · 20 years ago
nope. it's not. perhaps you're thinking of Orgazmo?
sheryls Back · 20 years ago

no, it's in idaho, not utah :D

basically, if you want tosee it, see it as a collection of quotable lines and identifying with the characters. dont look for a plot ;)

Bender Back · 20 years ago
i know why I made that association: the director and his wife are mormons. that's it.
sheryls Back · 20 years ago
ooooooh, gotcha :P the movie has no religion in it at all :D
nate... · 20 years ago
I watched it again... and it is definitely fun... especially if you're really bored.

The dance scene is what really makes it, though.
:)

sheryls Back · 20 years ago
oh, totally. and him answering "yeeeeesss." to the "are you ready to DANCE?" tape.
John J. Ryan · 20 years ago
Check out their site for their Napoleon Dynamite soundboard, which has most of the quotable quotes from the film.

This film actually is right along the lines in terms of having a pre-packaged teeny-bopper pop-star in a role that they were born to play (Mandy Moore in Saved! and Haylie Duff in this one).
nate... Back · 20 years ago
See, I never knew that hilary had a sister.

weird.
Bender Back · 20 years ago
her sister wanted in on the action. it's an ashley simpson dealie.
nate... Back · 20 years ago
Ahh.

See, from the way john put it, I thought she existed before this movie. (in the "known to the world" sense)

Bender Back · 20 years ago
ehh, not really. she's been slowly pushing her way into the spotlight: going to awards shows with her sister, recording with her, etc.
Mamalissa! Back · 20 years ago
She lip-synched the movie?
Bender Back · 20 years ago
marry me?
dirty life & times Back · 20 years ago
they all have sisters.
Rachel Marie aka RAI Back · 20 years ago
I'm a teenage pop princess, and I don't have a sister.
nate... Back · 20 years ago
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are SOO not a teenager. :D
100% dainty! Back · 20 years ago
and I'M your sister.
