has anyone ever read The Quantum and the Lotus?
danced with Lazlo Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
No, but I've read The Jew in the Lotus and I've read The Quark and the Jaguar...
nate... Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
I've seen Quantum Leap....

I realized as I voted on my own poll that strings might not count as particles.

*sigh* There go my hopes of becoming a world-class physicist by 25.

meh Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
Depends on how you're meaning.
They're considered a different model than point-particles.
ETA: That is, I think so. Brain is melty. And it's been too long since I saw that show on string theory.
For all I know they're the disowned party-children of physics now.

I wouldn't count them as particles, they are an alternative to particles as the basic building block of matter.

When I first saw this poll my reaction was: "I don't remember submitting this?" It is certainly my kind of poll.

I voted for quarks but I really have a soft spot for leptons.

See, I thought that at first, too, but then I realised that the spelling and capitalisation were consistent. :)

as far as I'm concerned, the basic structure of the K-Mart corporation is set up with 4 molecules.

Protons

Electrons

Neutrons

and Morons.

The last being the strongest of the four.
nate... Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
well, I think you said it all, when you said "K-mart".

:)

One of the great stupid lines in a science fiction film was in This Island Earth. A scientist talking about the lab's cat said:

"We call him neutron because he's so positive."

This Island Earth was the filmed turned into the MST 3K film and they didn't riff on that at all. I think the scene might have been cut.

What does a Ferengi do with all these subatomic particles? *runs*

And btw - I think an electron is way too mainstream - I go for a positron...
Zach Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
> What does a Ferengi do with all these subatomic particles?

Damn, you beat me to it.
Bender · 19 years, 5 months ago
I've been fond of those strings ever since I saw the Nova about string theory.

Excellent stuff.
meh Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
I liked when he tried to teach it all to the dog. :-)

String theory is the theory of the future:

Always has been, always will be.

THANK YOU FOR GETTING "SMALLEST THING KNOWN TO MAN" IN MY HEAD.

o.O
meh Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
Well I didn't have Particle Man stuck in my head before now. But then you went and mentioned having things in your head.

Blast.

Oh well. *hums along*
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 19 years, 5 months ago
The real question is what is your favorite Quark.
  1. up
  2. down
  3. strange
  4. charmed
  5. top
  6. bottom

When the last two were just theorized not observed tehy were sometimes called truth and beauty, those were better names.
Starfox · 19 years, 5 months ago
He was great on Star Trek Deep Space Nine!

Er...wait...
iPauley Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
Made for a pretty amusing high school principal on Buffy, too. :-P

He got lunched by a snake!
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
But he still looked like a Ferengi.

It's that sort of wooley-headed liberal thinking that leads to being eaten. *nodnod*
