Computer Science, duh. ;-)
Misch Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
Not happy with the poll questions or options? Then let's see you do better, really! Suggest a poll!

But, seriously, I said that too. ;-)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
computer science is not a scienceparts the applied parts are engineering and the theoretical parts solid state physics or mathematics!

climbs down off high horse now

By the way notice I didn't put my field, Math in their either. While math belongs in the science department of universities it is a different kind of beast.

There's an old saying, biologist want to be chemists, chemists want to be physicisist, physicist want to be mathematicians, mathematicians want to be philosophers, and philosophers want to be god.
ChrisChin is Getting Old · 20 years, 2 months ago
Biology in all its various forms, except for plants....I never really liked studying them (too many or something). Though somehow, I managed to do really well in Chemistry in school even though I hated the subject.
Magical Bob Back · 20 years, 2 months ago

Too many innuendos to choose from. Oh well. Just think up your own. Tee-hee!

Chemistry? Yeah, Chemistry!
Andrea Krause · 20 years, 2 months ago
I picked psychology because it was my favorite of the list but I can't help but feel it was out of place in the list. Weird. Maybe because I think of it as a social science. Anyway, if that weren't there I would have picked physics. I sucked at hte calculations but I loved learning and expressing the concepts.
Joy- new picture! Back · 20 years, 2 months ago

Research psychology! research psychology! Not out of place, I promise!

(I have to fight this one quite a bit, actually. I try to tell people I deal with perception and do so by running scientific experiments dealing with how humans physically percieve the world. Then they ask me about Freud, and I cry)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
That's because they can't perceive the difference :-)

Or maybe they are Jung and foolish.

I've always hated chemistry. And Biology wasn't really better. My fav sciences are linguistics, computer sciences and maths.
Talcott Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
Linguistics would definitly be at the top of my list.
As for the options, I picked physics becasue I think it's the most interesting, although if I had to pick a class (with no knowledge of the prof's style) I'd go with bio, because that has the least numeric math. I love and can understand physics and even advanced math as far as the concepts go, but actually give the the equation/numbers and my mind goes blank.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
*nods* exactly how I am. When I was in physics I got every concept and explanation light years faster than the rest of the class and it was exciting to me to think about these things but when it came down to calculating on a test what the result of one of those physics concepts was, I was just like "derrrrr..." It's a whole right brain left brain thing, I guess. :) (I was the poet/writer type back then)
renita · 20 years, 2 months ago
Linguistics. Sprachwissenschaft.

I'm all over that shit ;D
Kris 'engaged' Bedient · 20 years, 2 months ago
I am in school to become a highschool chemistry teacher, because I love teaching and I love chemistry. If it were economically feasible though, and I didn't have a child. I would love to do geology. It is fascinating to look at rocks and think that a long time ago, on some streambed, rocks and dirt and sand were layered down. Lots of time later, they are all twisted and warped into rock on the top of a mountain. Wow. I love chemistry too though. It is so connected to everything, hence it's moniker "the central science." Forces we don't yet understand hold the universe together, and they are inside of atoms. This also goes with nuclear physics (I think), though I am struggling to pass my Physics (with calculus) course.
dgodwin Back · 20 years, 2 months ago

You could work and get certified to teach Earth Science as well asChemistry. It would also make you more employable.

Kris 'engaged' Bedient Back · 20 years, 2 months ago

That is true, but to teach it (in my state anyway [NJ]) you have to have a bachelors degree (30 credits) and with chemistry being in such demand, I can go teach anywhere.

Hmmm, but where should I go teach?

Alan Mendelsohn · 20 years, 2 months ago
How about, "I can't decide! I love science!"
Bender · 20 years, 2 months ago
cryptozoology!
Bruce Rose · 20 years, 2 months ago
Mathematics, but Physics is a close second. I should probably flip the order on those... but Calculus isn't math, so I'll leave it as it is. Physics seems to be more numbers oriented than the others. To put it another way, physics lab results are better described numerically. Other sciences seem to be based more on your ability to correctly describe your interpretation of the results.

... ouch.

I like geology so much I actually became a geologist.

But if I had it to do over again -- and maybe I do, who knows? -- I'd become a psychologist.
stealthlori · 20 years, 2 months ago
I. love. physics.

It makes life, the universe, and everything make sense.

In school, I hated it. I wasn't a science geek, but I liked bio and geology. Physics? eh. Math? feh. (Chem I absolutely hated.)

But now I'm all over physics. To the point where, at my doddering age, I'd consider taking some classes.

And how did I just KNOW this was a Gordon survey? :)
Agent Scully Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
Bleh! That had to be the worst NYS Regents exam I ever took.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
I was mad because my Physics regents was cancelled because students stole copies of it. I wanted to ace it. I was bitter over not winning the physics medal. of course I iddn't hand in a single homework assingment all semester.
A girl named Becca Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
I thought Earth Science was way worse. I had to take it twice because they sent us the wrong version. Stupid NY. I think my worst Regent's grade was in Bio...
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
Yup...I eeked through my Physics Regents. I believe it was my worst grade out of all the Regents I took (though maybe English was a close second). My best was Chemistry, which again, I never really liked that much.

it's all about physics!!

did anybody ever watch Beakman's world?
Joy- new picture! Back · 20 years, 2 months ago

Thank you!

I had to do some research for a theatre paper that involved corresponding with Beakman (the actor who put together the show, at any rate) and I was UNBELIEVABLY excited. Then nobody here had ever seen him. But I loved that show!!

I like the way the biologist J.B.S. Haldane put it.
The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine

i just picked that cos i was in a pissy mood.

i actually adore psychology, especially child psychology, and always have.

where's musicology? sexology? heh.

and what about archaeology? Excavating artefacts from lost civilisations. It really thrilled me when I was a teenager.

Not commendable on Z'ha'dum though :)

Maybe josh will read this and use another poll I sent it, What is your favorite ancient civilization?
