Poll: What show could you not live without?

'trading spaces' is a 'must see' for me, but i also love 'while you were out', 'what not to wear', 'clean sweep', 'for better or for worse', and other stuff on there. that is the one channel that i can, like, leave on for hours and know i'll always find something i likes.

though, i -will- be most sad this season when 'angel' goes off the air. bastards.

and, like.....-lotsa- shows i watch seem to be, like going offa the aire this year...is it, like, -me-?? :P

coz...dood...maybe then i should STOP watching 'trading spaces'.......................

I could live without it, although there are lots of things I do watch.
I'd miss Modern Marvels (what little cable I get has History, so that's good) and I'd miss a few comedy or drama shows (namely fox sunday-night stuff).
I'd like to have older West Wing and the Law and Order shows, but I could pass on them if need be.
Angel will most likely be gone by the end of the spring, and Wonderfalls has just been cancled completly (grr, they won't even air the other episides filmed)

Actually, I'd say keep the documentry-type shows, and give me everything else in season-length DVDs :-D

i'm with you here. i havent had cable in almost 7 years.

when i watch tv shows, i just want to watch more than 1 ep at a time, or watch a certain show when i feel like it, so dvds is the way to go for me.

That's something I really like about DVDs. I don't tend to get many movies, but there are a lot of full-season TV sets I want. I think the TV format works better than the movie format in a lot of ways (more depth into their reality, more angles, and yet more self-contained), and one thing I'm looking forward to is one day having tv series go directly to DVD (kinda like firefly, only without the few aired episodes)

but. well, this year, I've gone without any american/canadian programming. except those shows that have been syndicated and dubbed (Fresh Prince and the Simpsons are weird in German, I mean the stories are the same, but it's weird to hear differnt voices coming out of the faces)

BAck home I haven't been a regular TV watcher in ages, at least 3 years, I'd say. Last year a shared a TV (minimal cable) with a family, so I didn't have regular access. Plus I had an evening class on the night of the show I was watching semi-regularly, no point in setting a VCR timer when there are two little ones running around and watching videos and whatnot.

Year before that, again, I had evening classes, and I was living on my own, with a TV, but with no cable.

So. yah, there's stuff I'd miss, but I do have access to a TV, but I can do without it, not just if I "have to"

it's actually very funny to hear a very german voice coming out of his face. there's a bit of a sing-song-ness to it, but it's totally not homey-talk sounding...

i dunno. it's jsut funny.

I was big on Simpsons dubbed in Spanish this fall, but it was definitely weird. My biggest dubbing issue, though, was Phoebe from Friends when I was in French. The voice they got just wasn't right at all.

Actually, I lied. That was my biggest TV dubbing issue. The worst overall was Alan Rickman in Love Actually dubbed in Spanish. I mean, what's the point of watching the Voice of God if you can't hear him? (OK, so he's still pretty sexy...but....) O:)

I can definitely live without watching TV. No problem at all. I've just ended my 3-month TV boycotting yesterday... (but not for long I presume)

Nowadays I use my TV only to watch DVDs...

the Simpsons and the History Channel are pretty much all I really watch with any regularity. However, If the Simpsons don't start getting back their old charm and humor, I might just drop that as well, but unlikely.

I'd say they already have gotten back to it this season.

Although, if the contract talks break down, it'll be over anyways..

Stargate SG-1 would be the one show I currently try to watch every week. Joan of Arcadia as well, but that would be some drama

Stargate rocks my socks but we're still waiting for the new episodes over here...

And if J. Michael Straczynski could pull something new I'd start watching TV instantly (yeah I'm the worst Babylon 5 nut ever:)

The answer used to be West Wing, but that show has kinda gone downhill. I haven't watched it in a while.

Crazy, I know, but we don't watch TV at home at all. I refused to pay for the increase in fees for cable nearly 6 years ago...and we've never gone back. Right now, I couldn't tell you if we can pick up local channels or not. *shrug* I don't care, really. From what I remember, TV was crap back then and the blips I hear on the radio indicate it's even worse now. No thanks.

I miss it occasionally, but it wasn't really the higher fees.� Our local cable system had VH-1 and Comedy Central on the same channel (VH-1 from 6am-6pm, and CC from 6pm to 6am.)� It was annoying... I remember swearing vehemently at them when VH-1 was promoting 'ABBA the Movie, tonight at 7pm.'� Oddly enough, those two channels were the ones I watched when I had time for TV.

Then Animal Planet premiered.� To add it, our cable system decided to pull VH-1/CC (apparently, we just weren't ready for a 36th channel.)� With the volume of callers cancelling their subscriptions (including us,) they flipped and decided that VH-1/CC would stay.� That would have gotten me back, except that now they were taking away WGN.� That reminded me of a mantra from California (in 1987, when the local system tried removing WGN)... 'No Cubs, No Cable.'� Sure, I haven't watched a complete Cubs game... ever, but taking away the option was more than I could bear.

After about a year, they expanded the channels.� VH-1 and CC became full-time channels, and WGN returned.� They also added the ever important HGTV.� But by that time we'd realized that TV was crap.�

So, my answer was I could live without it... since I've been living without cable or broadcast for years.� But I couldn't live without the appliance...� there's still a lot of great video games out there.

Well I could literally live without TV...but there are shows I couldn't figuratively live without. First and foremost, Joan of Arcadia. It's my absolute favorite TV offering right now.

Then there's also Good Eats, Mythbusters, Wonderfalls (though I'm not as impressed as I'd hoped), American Idol, Survivor, Unwrapped, CSI, etc.

However I am one of those morbid people who watch true crime shows (Forensic Files, City Confidential, Medical Detectives etc...) You would be suprised how often CSI and shows like that rip off real crimes. I tick off my husband all the time by giving away the plot on "new" episodes.

But yes. Survivor is definitely my #1 show I'm addicted to. I've been watching it since season 1.

I picked 'live without it', but it occurs to me that that's oftentimes not the case when fall rolls around.

If I couldn't watch the end of baseball's regular season, the baseball postseason, and Michigan football, I'd probably be mighty unhappy.

I have shows I watch faithfully and will go to great lengths to tape or otherwise see if I happen not to be home when they're on. But I can live without any/all of them. I only watch on average maybe 4 hours a week of programming, and I don't own any of my old favorites on DVD or other medium, simply because I don't miss them that much.

I have gone entire college years without watching tv, simply because I had no unit in the room and too much else going on to bother to seek out a unit. And I could do so again. But I wouldn't want to, and I've never done any organized boycott or intentional cold-turkey quitting of all tv. It seems to me that's ignoring too much programming that might be entertaining or truly informative just to make some intellectually purist point.

Doctor who! Even if I miss a week, it's comforting just to know it's still there.

but if it has a short run, then its DVD release will be pretty inexpensive, which could be considered a positive thing. :)

I watched part of the first episode, and I agree that it's quite funny, but I just can't get into another show, as it would be Yet Another Half Hour Of Productive Time That I Lose Every Week. as it is, I'm starting to lose interest in the Simpsons and Malcolm in the Middle, because there are just better things I could be doing than watching television.

Arrested Development is the best new show in years. So damn funny.

Family Guy is awesome - I just recently watched all 50 eps in like 3 weeks. (And I confess to liking The Nanny, too - it was so formulaic but amusing anyway. Then again, anything would have been good between Murphy Brown and Northern Exposure.)
