Poll: What will tomorrow's weather be like here in the Alaskan Rainforest

Rain 6 (35%)
Snow 11 (65%)
Discussion: Also new. in fact, been here all of 10 minutes!
Shade · 20 years, 6 months ago

Found this by googling gay marriage polls, and finding joshw.org, then found this site. I am used to conversational style forums, but this looks interesting. I live on a small island in Alaska. So small I wasn't allowed to put it as my "location", I had to pick a "bigger city", heh.

I'm at work right now, goofing off severely, so will come back later to figure out my way around here! Thanks!

Oooooo...look! We get to make a poll out of this! Someone really needs to take the internet away from me...

Josh Woodward Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Hey Shade, welcome to FHDC! It's probably the first time someone found *this* site from *mine*. :)
Shade · 20 years, 6 months ago
Well! It kept telling me there was an error so i tried making the post again! It neglected to tell me that the error was that I had created 3 posts!

Wintress · 20 years, 6 months ago
So....which small island ARE you from, if not Juneau? That's my birthplace, fyi. :)
Shade · 20 years, 6 months ago

Still figuring this place out. I live over on Douglas, by the way, Third Interview!

Does this type of forum accept photo posting? Testing....here's my dog with Juneau across the channel in the backgroung.

Damn, nice picture!

BTW, you can insert photos and other HTML, you just have to switch the editor over to source mode. I'm not sure how to do that, since my browser doesn't support it, but I think it's in the top-left corner of the editor. It's been awhile. Or you can use the little picture frame icon.

Though linking is the best option for big pics like that one :)
Zach Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
wow...I viewed the image at the source...it seriously is a beautiful picture.
Shade · 20 years, 6 months ago

It doesn't support pictures. If y'all want to see Juneau, and my perfect dog: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/18239/P5090851.JPG

And thank you to whoever removed my other two forums! What a mess!

Also? It is NOT going to snow here tomorrow. It's been 38-40 degrees for three days and nights in a row, and pouring down rain!

Little tip, Shade... when you are answering someone in these forums, use the little "reply" button on the top right corner of the original message. That way we can all be sure we know who you're talking to and what you're responding to. :)

(This message brought to you by TRBP [The Reply Button Police])

Heh, ok. You learn something new everyday. TRBP = Thread Nanny from other forums I play in.

*blink*

You have a can of haggis??
Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Yes. I do.

And a lovely, dear, darling friend in Scotland who sent it to me and keeps trying like hell to get me to eat it in a recipe of hers: Roasted chicken with cream gravy stuffed with haggis.

I keep telling her that I'm saving the haggis, you know? for a special occasion? like...oh...hell freezing over?

ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
hehe...I was just about to ask about the can of Haggis and if it was something you eat regularly. BTW, Welcome to FHDC!! Hope you enjoy your stay here! :)
Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Thank you Chris. I used to eat haggis, but then I stopped drinking and a person simply can't eat haggis without a single malt scotch to wash the taste out of their mouth!

OK, really,I must go snuggle and get ready for tomorrow which will be a BUSY day at work. If it weren't pouring down rain here the view from my front porch would look like this, (we took this about 6 weeks ago). I leave you all with it as a "goodnight" photo:

hey, that trick works pretty good! I can even futz with the size and see it before posting!

Wintress Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Oh, this is just creepy! I was just sharing with some other internet friends the beauties of the Northern Lights. To see this....Oh man. You're killing me!!

I spent much of my youth in various parts of AK: born in Juneau, moved to Seattle WA for a couple years, moved to Cordova, then Homer, then Salcha before "settling" in North Pole. I've seen some pretty impressive 'Lights during the cold snaps.

I was in Juneau in '93 for State Close Up. We stayed at the youth hostel. My mother just about freaked when she found out we ran amok without much supervision. We took a van trip onto Douglas so we could snap shots of the city below.

I agree with the others - damn fine pic.

Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

And don't cry! Here! Here are a ton of aurora pics for you :

or

or

We made our own Season's Greetings cards this year. Most had the aurora on them. Then some were the glacier, or snow scenes.

Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

and here's another Aurora pic:

unless of course that's not what you meant... I mean, I didn't *think* you knew my cat...

Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Ah, no. But it's a mighty fine looking cat! Would he/she like to play with my dog?

Mamalissa! Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
of course she would! She's quite friendly. Before I got her, she was living in a grooming shop and played with the dogs that came in.

Ha! I totally beat you.

Presenting...

Shade · 20 years, 6 months ago

It worked.

I know, I know, I should be doing something constructive. I just wanted to see a little bit of how this place worked. Silly clients at work today kept interupting me!

Time to go snuggle my giant dog, my giant husband, and watch some TV.

See you all later!

P.S. My dog also voted in the marriage poll. He's a very pro-family/pro-love dog. And he's a firm believer that any love is good love ;-) not to mention that his uncle and his godparents are all in same sex relationships. He doesn't care who pets him, as long as he gets petted and loved.

Welcome, Shade! Wow, that picture of your dog is beautiful. I want to go to Alaska. Wow, you're north of Canada. weird.

wow. i'm really tired.

A.J. Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
What is so weird? I'm north of Canada too! :)
Wintress · 20 years, 6 months ago

I visited your webpage - I've BEEN to AKP!

What a small, small world it is...

Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

My webpage? What's AKP?

If not my webpage I still want to say yes, the internet makes this a very small world indeed. And living here has brought it's own kind of strange coincidences to my attention. Maybe it's kismet or something, but almost once a month I have an experience similar to these:

  • I used to work as a wildland firefighter in Colorado. I moved here, and got a job as a nurse aide. The first day I am there a co-worker says "Oh, what did you do in CO?" I tell her and she pauses for a minute and says "Did you know W______ R___________?" W_R_ was my old boss in Colorado!

  • My car breaks down and I take a cab. The cab driver asks where I am from. I say I live here now, but used to live in Grand Junction CO. She says "Is that near Clifton? Do you know a B________ family? They all ride Harleys? I used to ride with them all the time!" The B______ family are STILL some of my best friends!

The list goes on and on and on. I am forever running into people who either know someone I know, or have been somewhere I have, at the same time, for the same reason.

We have about 2500 photos all together online in various galleries. If anyone ever needs a snow/glacier/giant dog/scenery photo I can supply you with one.

Wintress Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

Yup, according to your profile, this is your webpage: http://wc1.worldcrossing.com/...

AKP = Anaktuvuk Pass. It's an Eskimo village north of the Arctic Circle. I had a penpal from there and was able to fly up to visit her for a week.

While doing a variety of different student council functions around the state, I ran into someone I went to school with in Homer AND Cordova. I also met friends of friends, as in, "do you know so-n-so from Mountain Village?" "YES!" :) Crazy, isn't it?

OR the time I flew back from Juneau seated next to a guy I went to 2nd grade with in Cordova. THAT was weird. It had been TEN years.

Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago

That is weird, isn't it!? It's like there is some odd space-time riff here.

Yeah, the worldcrossing forum is just one of my little general chat forums. I used to have forums on Table Talk (salon.com) but then they went to a pay only service, so I made some forums on worldcrossing. Never anything terribly important or political, just general chat stuff.

Shade Back · 20 years, 6 months ago
Oh, and the photos on the worldcrossing forum header are also some of our originals...Moonrise over Douglas, and the night sky.
