I think the telephone (and the telephone line) is the single most important invention in our society. Think about how much we rely on it and how much it's changed our lives. That's what I'm thankful for. Otherwise I couldn't stay in contact with my life (I'm in Waterloo, my life is not).

Probably true for a while.... but now the internet is replacing it.
Shelly Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
but iffin you figger that -some- people still uses the telephone lines for dial-up for internet, it's still as vital as ever.

and c'mon......cellphones???
nate... Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
yeah, but dialup is dying more and more every day.
Eventually it'll be gone.

And, cell phones are preferable to land lines, for me at least.
I can leave my house and still get/make calls... and I get no telemarketers.
:)

None of which would be possible if the telephone had not beem invented first.
nate... Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
yep!
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

Last time I checked, my high speed internet still went through the phone lines. Unless you've got cable internet you're still using the phone lines to stay in contact over the net.

I prefer using the phone to using MSN, it's much nicer to hear a familiar voice than talk to a computer, but it's so expensive so I end up using MSN a lot more.

nate... Back · 20 years, 7 months ago
Yeah, but who uses dsl anymore?

Cable modem is sooo much faster and better. :)

Well, around here, anyway.
Yvonne Back · 20 years, 7 months ago

Damn. I guess I'm just living in the past.

It isn't Thanksgiving in Canada. Maybe somebody should have posted this thread back in October and just talked about thanksgiving, not Canadian Thanksgiving, and see how we liked it!

most times I am too depressed to be thankfull for anything, which is addmitedly very selfish and dumb, but I can't seem to think of much else than how sorry I am when ... I am sorry. yeah depression is weird like that. anyway on thanksgiving this year I was on my way to work after locking myself out of my appartment and having to leave haylee in the appartment all night by herself to detroy my appartment. I stopped to get gas at Betsy's and when I went inside to pay I thought I might get some coffee...

...I looked around and couldn't find it. NO coffee?! and the girl at the counter pointed me to it and I sighed with relief. she talked to me and I talked to her. she was going to her mothers after she got out of work at 11am. I was going to work at 10 and staying there until 1am... I went up to the counter and she was like, "look, you need that coffee and I bet they don't pay you much... just go." and so I got coffee for free... and it made me stop and think and just that one thing, free coffee, made my day and made me thankful.
