Usually I get hankerings for strawberry ice cream. The only form of chocolate I don't really like is ice cream....I mean it's great if there are chocolate bits in the ice cream (such as mint chocolate chip...yum), but for some reason, I usually don't like chocolate ice cream.

I don't eat much ice cream anymore, so when I do, I like it to be the best of its kind. To wit: Godiva Belgian Dark Chocolate. Oh, my. Or, Haagen Dazs Dulce e Leche. Or, homemade peppermint stick at JB's Ice Cream Factory. But chocolate usually wins out.
half baked, phish food, coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz, and the late, lamented bovinity divinity.
Yes! Cool Britannia is one of my fav dearly departed Ben & Jerry's Flavors. It was the prefect combination of berrylicious ice cream with chocolate bits that I crave. *sigh* It was resurrected briefly as part of a 2 twisted flavor called SNAFU (Strawberries Naturally All Fudged Up), which was also very yummy too. But that too is in the graveyard. *double sigh*
Oh I'm with you on the Cherry Garcia. In fact, I find that I like many of the B&J's yogurts better than the corresponding ice cream. Their blueberry cobbler yogurt rocked my casbah. Alas I can't find it anymore Sadly my answer to the poll question has to be "I can't eat ice cream, you insensitive clod!" I can, however, manage frozen yogurt, so Ben and Jerry's makes me happy!

There are flavors of ice cream that aren't chocolate?
The best ice cream in the universe is Cones on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. Their dark chocolate is pure joy. Dark chocolate ice cream? Gah. That sounds about as close to heaven as I'll ever get. Want.
Come see a show in the Village with me and we'll get some.
I'm generally not given to making such superlatives, but I maintain that The Best Ice Cream in the World can be found at Graeter's, a small chain in Ohio. Their flavors aren't fancy, but the ice cream is dense, smooth and very, very creamy. You can order it online if you don't mind paying $70 for six pints/$110 for a dozen pints.

Homemade spiced applesauce ice cream is my next favorite. Start with a big old batch of applesauce, add sugar to taste, plus vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cardamom. Then add 2 pints of cream (or soy substitute). Top off the gallon container with milk / soymilk / rice milk, and stir/freeze. Yummy.

Green tea, red bean, ginger and mango are the best.
Next comes coffee.
I'm a big fan of their almond cookie flavor...yum.

There is a place on Bloor in Toronto that has Roasted Marshmallow flavour. I've never seen it anywhere else, but it is fabulous. I usually get a scoop of Marshmallow and one of some variety of chocolate so it tastes like a s'mores. mmmmmmmmmdddrroool. orange sherbet + vanilla ice cream = creamsicle. It goes under many other names -- and Stewart's has an extremely silly one that escapes me at the moment -- but that's what this blend essentially is. anyone remember Cubic Scoops? I think it was a Breyer's product from the mid-80s. It came in vanilla/chocolate ice cream or vanilla ice cream/orange sherbet. Okay, now the question of "what does Stewart's call their orange-and-vanilla blend?" is driving me stark raving. It's something silly like ... rooty tooty fresh n fruity ... or snickerdoodle dandy ... or dipsydoodleitis ... but obviously it's none of those, because they're all different things entirely. But think an absurd, somewhat onomatapoetic series of syllables, I think heavy on "c" or "ch". And it really has nothing to do with the words "orange" or "vanilla" or "ice cream". New York Staters and Vermonters represent ... youshould know this kind of thing! It's your convenience store after all! Fireworks? Philly Vanilla? http://www.stewartsshops.com/pdf/upload/Icecreamsaleorder2003.pdf oooo! I couldn't find that page when I googled Stewart's! It's not Fireworks, or Philly Vanilla (which is just vanilla with real vanilla bean flecks in it) or even Star Gazers, although that's pretty cool stuff. It's something *very very reminiscent of* Kaydeeross Kreme. In fact I'm quite certain it's Kaydeesomething Something. Kaydeeross Kreme is probably the low-fat version of what I'm thinking of. I'm ... so close to remembering it now ... my head might explode! Duck quick! It appears it isn't on this order sheet though. Maybe it's a limited-edition flavor combo. (Or they changed the name to Kaydeeross Kreme).
http://www.bizjournals.com/albany/stories/2001/02/19/smallb1.html
answers the main question. it really is Kaydeross Kreme. and it's tangerine sherbet, not orange. but ... what the heck is a Kaydeross? the name seems to be a geographic commonplace in the Saratoga area. Heck, there are even sailboats named after it. *baffled*
Anyone else here that can't stand Breyer's? It's just so grainy somehow.
It's very much more "ice" than "cream". Reminds me of ice milk sometimes.
I like Breyer's for exactly the reason of its "skinny" feeling. It's good when I want ice cream milkiness, but don't want to feel bloaty afterwards -- like I just drank a pitcher of cream or ate a stick or two of butter. This is particularly important insummertime.
Yeah I tend to like it when it's Breyer's mint chocolate chip. Something about the mint and the less creamy go together in my mind. But I hate their vanilla. Maybe because it's too close to milk and I hate plain milk. :)
hmmm... I dislike plain milk too... but I like it with a bit of sweetness. I love milk with honey, or milk from a bowl of frosted flakes (dude... when do I *ever* eat frosted flakes?) so I really like the light and milky and subtly sweet taste of breyers vanilla.

More often then not, vanilla. When not, I'll pretty much try anything that's not minty or over coconut-y.
