Personal Themesong

   Discussion: Personal Themesong
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 20 years, 8 months ago
Sometimes you hear a song and say to yourself, "That's my theme song?" You can have more than one.

What is yours?

My new one is John Gorka's Always with the refrain "I'll always be lonely."

The "Kennedys "Life is Large." works too.

Nobody ever said that theme songs or people have to be consistant.
angelmusicmaven Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

I gotta bunch, my main 2 being Robert Palmer's "Hyperactive" ;) and the Nields' "Easy People."

:):):)

"I Will Always Be Lonely" was the one John Gorka song I kept for my FRFF 2003 compilation. It just resonates.

I've had a lot of theme songs - the most recent ones being "Expectations" by Stephen Fearing and "Water Moves Me" by Katherine Wheatley. But ever since I heard it for the first time, my newest one is "That'd Be Alright" by Alan Jackson. :)

I don't know if it really suits me now, but for quite a while I really connected with "Caroline Dreams" by The Nields. I've spent too much time being depressed and feeling like I'm just sleeping through my life.

And as a happy newlywed type person, I gotta go with "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. It appeals to the sappy part of me that I don't like to admit that I have.

K-Lyn · 20 years, 8 months ago

Although that was back in college and a while after. Now I need a new one. Quarterlife crisis almost subsiding...I think I might go with Tom Petty's "The Waiting".

On a side note, in all my relationships I've never had an "our song" with anyone. But my boy and I have George Harrisons "I Got My Mind Set On You". If we marry it'll be in interesting first song to try to dance to...

John J. Ryan Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

You could always hire a band to play that song at a slow tempo.

Of course, I'll always think of it as "This Song is Just 6 Words Long"

K-Lyn Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

Yeah...my dreams for George playing it on a ukelele were shattered.

And c'mon. It's atleast 12 words... ;-)

K-Lyn Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

Funny...I mention this to a non-fruhead about And She Was being my song back in college and he says "So you identify with getting high behind the YooHoo factory?" Wha???? Apparently this was their inspriration for the song????

I'mgoing to have scarsfrom this I can tell!

"If I Wasn't Shy", TMBG.
Rachel Marie aka RAI · 20 years, 8 months ago
Gotta go with BNL.

"I'm so cool! Too bad I'm a loser..."

Yeah, that entire song is like, ode to Rachel's life. Indeed!
Mollie · 20 years, 8 months ago
I don't have a theme song, but my theme line from a song is "Dont' let your heart get broken by this world," from Albuquerque Lullabye, by Dan Bern.

bad musicals set at holiday camps rock my world

Uh, word up?? · 20 years, 8 months ago
Mine would be Talking Heads "Psycho Killer" cuz the bassline makes me nuts, or maybe Devo's "Jocko Homo". Or maybe Tea Party's cover of "Paint it Black" Bah, I can't choose! No, it would definitely be "If I were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof. Definitely
hkath · 20 years, 8 months ago
I'm gonna have to borrow one that would probably be Donna's and say "Prince Charming" by Jim Infantino. I'm sure there are millions more that probably mean more to me, but that's the one I can think of at this moment :)

Bender · 20 years, 8 months ago

BNL - This Is Where It Ends - o/~ I have faith in medication /I believe in the Prozac nation / You play doctor but I've lost patience...o/~ and o/~ Make excuses for behavior / Can my illness be my savior? o/~

Steven Schwartz's Children of Eden - Spark of Creation - o/~ When you're born with an imagination, sooner or later you're feeling the fire burning hotter and higher... the spark of creation! o/~

RHPS - o/~ I'm a wild and untamed thing! o/~

"I'm not an angry girl" -Ani

nightrider theme

"fuck you and your cat" -Goldfinger

"its not a habit its cool I feel alive if you don't have it you're on the other side. I'm not an adict maybe thats a lie" -don't remember the name of the artist.

my co-workers call my music choices "slit your wrists music" and I'd have to agree.

Rainbow Connectionby Kermit the Frog

Arbie Back · 20 years, 8 months ago

It would be interesting to compare answers from 1,5,10,15, 20 and up years ago.

My answers depend on how I interpret the question:

How I try to live my life: James Taylor- "Shower the people you love with love"

How I feel my work life is going right now: Jim Croce- "Workin' at the Carwash Blues"

How I feel as I write this: Beatles- "I'm only Sleeping"

How I feel most of the time: Stevie Ray Vaughan- "Walkin' the Tightrope"

"So Unsexy" by Alanis Morissette

I can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful
So unloved for someone so fine
I can feel so boring for someone so interesting
So ignorant for someone of sound mind

Dar Williams comes to mind - particularly You're aging well and After All.

Here are another 2 theme songs:

Jen Cass - Daedalus
Tell my why I build my castles so high in the air
Never can reach them way up there
And though I try to build foundations under each aspiration
It's never too long before I'm falling through the air

Where are the people that I willingly call friends
All the cheap thrills that once offend my soul
I'm never happy with the place that I've been
Where I am seems to torture me so
...
And in my dreams at night I'm in my castle home with these court jesters, soldiers and kings
If I could get up there I'll never be alone but the angels have stolen my wings
---

Iris Dement- My Life

When I look at this world, I feel so small.
My life, it's only a season:
A passing September that no one will recall.

But I gave joy to my mother.
And I made my lover smile.
And I can give comfort to my friends when they're hurting.
And I can make it seem better for a while.

My life, it's half the way travelled,
And still I have not found my way out of this night.
An' my life, it's tangled in wishes,
And so many things that just never turned out right.

Oh yeah. Looking at these songs it really doesn't come as a surprise that I've turned into this super folkie ...

ChrisChin is Getting Old · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well, two come to mind right now for what is going one for me...."The Best of Me" by Eddie From Ohio and "Weight of the Ocean" by We're About 9. *sigh*
Zach · 20 years, 8 months ago
Until I got to college, I had decided that my theme song was Out Here by Peter Mulvey. Then my life took a drastic and happy change. So now I'm not sure.
emilie is CRANKY · 20 years, 8 months ago
i have no freakin' idea what my theme tune would be. i've yet to find a song that i really can relate to. :P though if i had to choose, it would be something by BNL probably. like 'enid' or 'brian wilson'. yup. :)
J · 20 years, 8 months ago
Thats mine!
Rachel Beck · 20 years, 8 months ago
In high school, it was Radiohead's "Creep," but probably Dar Williams, "Spring Street" now. Sometimes Ryan Adams, "Come Pick Me Up."
Samantha · 20 years, 8 months ago

I dont really think i HAVE a personal theme song... thats rather lame,if you ask me [its lame that i dont have one,i mean^_^;;]

I'd say maybe...

As far as how i try to live my life, this is what i like to say to people:::"Which Way Are You Goin' " by Jim Croce

How i really DO live my life: Someone Elses Star - Bryan White

How I'd like to be living my life: "God Gave me You" - Bryan White [again.. i know]

and my personal motto i stole from Jonathan Larson^_^ "No Day But Today"

as well as "Let he among us without sin be the first to condemn! La Vie Boheme!!!"

Joella · 20 years, 2 months ago
i think it's probably the Beatles's "Your mother should know" but in "Life's been good" by Joe walsh could easily be it aswell; mainly for the line "they say i'm crazy but i have a good time"
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 2 months ago
there's a great episode of newsradio where jimmy james runs for president and he uses "life's been good" as his campaign song.
