Albums you are ashamed to own...

Okay, time to reveal the skeletons in your closet!  What CDs/cassettes/records are you ashamed of owning, and still do?  This means for some reason, you haven't thrown it out yet.

My worst?  I know it's somewhere, but I still have "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" from M.C. Hammer.  U Can't Touch This!

Well since I'm a certified pack rat who refuses to throw anything out, I still have a fair number of albums that I'm ashamed to own.

While I also have MC Hammer's "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em", my worst probably are Michael Bolton's "Time Love and Tenderness"  and 2 Mariah Carey albums (Mariah Carey and Emotions)  Oo-oh a-haa shireeeeeeeeek. *covers ears*

Please Hammer Don't Hurt em is perhaps the most brilliant CD of the 90's!  I am proud to own that one!

Hey, my whole music collection is online so I'm not terribly ashamed of anything I own. I think that if you find value in it of any kind, then what is there to be ashamed of?

That being said, it should be noted that I not only possess both of Tiffany's first albums, Debbie Gibson and *2* albums by Shaun Cassidy. :)

I don't really know, since most of my shame days were cassettes and I threw most of my cassettes out years ago, even if I liked them still. :) (Those shames included Samantha Fox, Rick Astley, Snap..)

I'm not ashamed of much in my CD collection...there's lots I don't listen to anymore but nothing really SHAMEFUL. :) I did kick Led Zeppelin out of the rack for a while because I was so sick of the stoner zep fans I knew. :) The Fireman...which is a really horrid dance/trance/techno whatever CD that I bought just because Paul McCartney was somehow involved and can't give it up for the same reason but I HATE it.

There's REO Speedwagon, Hall & Oates, Chicago, Supertramp, Toto greatest hits CDs...but...those I bought on purpose in the past few years to HAVE some of those songs that used to shame me. :)

OOoh Sublime...hate the CD, but someone gave it to me for free and I can't get myself to get rid of it.

Hey now don't dis Samantha Fox. Her song "I'm All You Need" is one of my favorites. (Even have the album on cassette somewhere)

I hope you let Zepplin back in the rack. They are on my all-time fav list.

Well I let them back on the rack but I don't really listen to the CDs. :) I have gotten to the point where I'll sing with them on the radio instead of changing it. :)

That sublime disc reminds me of the high school days of getting stoned and sitting around listening to music. life was simple then. I'd love a copy of that CD!! hehehehehe

Moldy Peaches. That's one of those cd's that I can't get rid of. Not because I like it, but because it makes me have 10 'M' bands. That's really important to me.

Ooh! I was just going through my other cd book, and I found a couple that I'm a bit embarrased about. I had a gangsta period during jr. high. I have Warren G - Regulate.... G Funk Era, Snoop doggy dogg - Doggy style, Kriss Kross - Da Bomb. There are a few others, but just think of the 'cool' early 90's rappers, and I probably have one of their albums, or a single at least

Doggystyle was a great CD! Not nearly as good as Dr. Dre's "The Chronic", but what is? :)

yeah, i never owned the sublime cd, but a neverending parade of those cds were in my player summer '97, and i probably coulda ganked one of my friends' copies, had i not been morally upstanding enough to return the errant discs.  fun stuff, though.

my shameful cds?  hm.  that shaggy disc with "it wasn't me" definitely.  no matter how much critical acclaim he's gotten lately, i still feel like a traitor to my 17-year-old, slim-shady-hatin' self by owning _the eminem show_.  and, um, abba's greatest hits?  *runs and hides*

I have mixed emotions. I'm confused about my feelings on the matter... the thing is, not only do I own it, but... I still listen to it. ... and the other albums by the same artist.... that I purchased in shame, but turn up loud whenever possible. you see, I secretly want to be lil kim... can a painfully and starkly white girl with red hair and freckles be lil kims long lost twin? ...well no. I'm not that dellusional, but I can still turn her up loud and dance my bootay dance yo!

my favorite Wesley Willis tune is probably "Shoot Me in the @$$"  Hhahaha!  He's something else, actually I want to try to catch him live someday!  That's got to be an odd experience!

I've come across people who got head-butted by him.  PLUS I think I saw him outside a venue Fruvous was playing at (he used to hang out a lot outside the double door in Chicago)... man, wonder if he went to the she and they didn't make the cut for him... man that'd be sad! :0

I don't think that I'm ashamed of any of my CDs, but I do have some CDs that I probably SHOULD be ashamed of owning AND liking! I still like my Amy Grant "Heart In Motion" album, though I don't listen to it very often. And I do quite like George Michael's "Listen Without Prejudice" -- and sometimes, when nobody is watching, I even dance to it.

See, and I'd probably like to buy that, like the other greatest hits I own, for the nostalgia factor. :)

Paul and I were watching this I Love the 80s show on VH1 yesterday (they had an hour of 1980 and an hour of 1981) and we could not pull ourselves away. It was great. Not just the music but the toys, the news, just a total nostalgia fest! (It was funny how he remembered everything vividly because he's old and I was hit or miss because I was 4-5. :) )

I think I've seen all the episodes now - one for each year of the 80's.  It's totally addictive.  Like, totally!

And I've got all that stuff - from Rick Astley to Whitney - not to mention Nelson.  That was the soundtrack of my Junior High just discovering there's music on the radio phase.  It's nostalgia.

I have no excuse, however, for the Ace of Base CD.  I was old enough to know better. 

(What does it mean that I went to see Ricky Martin on night, and then The String Cheese Incident the next night, and enjoyed Ricky much much more?)

Oh, and I have _two_ Ace of Base CDs. And I got them within the last year.

I'm perversely proud of this, though. I know it's cheesy and has no redemptive value, but I feel guilty cleaning my room or doing sit-ups to good music. Good music I like to listen to with my complete attention.

I have The Carpenters Greatest hits ... does that count? LOL!

I have a vast collection of albums that I am ashamed to own. Not only do I own countless country music albums, I also have such mindless pop drivel as Hanson. The list is extensive and I haven't the time to write it at the moment.

Hey, at least Hanson play their own instruments and sing without "treatment".

I've got to give them props for that.

I have two.

Donna Summer's Love to Love You on Vinyl. I did win it but I never gave it away. Why am I ashamed? For those of you who never heard the title track it is known as the orgasm song.

The only one isn't an album but a CD single of Britney Spear's Hit Me Baby One More Time. I bought that for 99 cents before it hit the charts. I think it was before the album was released even. I bought it because she was the understudy in a play I saw when she was 11, and I remembered the name. It was my friend bad Carey's favorite play.

Don't you feel proud that you knew to buy that Britney Spears single before she was big?

I was working at a music store at the time that single came out.  The singles wall was LOADED with the 99 cent "One More Time.." singles.  We also showed the video of it constantly as part of the video rotation.  I do remember how people were transfixed by the video constantly, and then more and more singles were sold every day....

And the Britney marketing machine wasn't even in full swing at the time.  I thought she would go the way of Cleopatra, All Saints, Wild Orchid, etc....

I still own Chicago's greatest hits (and even still occasionally listen to it for purely nostalgia reasons) It reminds me of being 12 and watching Saved by the Bell alone in the afternoons. boy was my life pathetic!

I was also given some bad Rod Stewart singing jazz standards disc that is presently on my CD rack (I was very ashamed when my boyfriend pulled it off, wondering why I would own such crap!)

And the best of all, Green Day's Dookie!!! Bought it at 14 and can't seem to lose it! ( I lost blood sugar sex magic which I still wish I owned but Dookie cannot die)

I lost my copy of BloodSugarSexMagic as well.  It was one of the first CDs I ever owned, along with R.E.M. Automatic For The People (Which I still have) and Naughty By Nature (You down with O.P.P.?)  My parents bought me both of those CDs for Christmas along with a CD Player.  And by that time, my rap phase was over (Thank GOD!).

Dookie I borrowed from my college roommate, but returned it to him after realizing, after a dozen listens, that every song was exactly the same.

BSSM and Automatic are GREAT albums!!

Dookie is okay... but yeah, much of it sounds the same.

up until a week ago i owned tom jones' 'reload', but it was so shameful i gave it to music centre to raffle off for tour funds. i doubt they got anything for it. it was a pretty terrible album. :D

also i was going to mention the spice girls single i think i still have somewhere but they're becoming more kitsch now so i might just keep that one. hehehe. :)

well, in the 80's I liked them all!

REALLY have always loved the vocals..I followed some of their solo projects inthe early 90's, but Rod also liked the guitar work..so we keep it around! yay!

I am the proud owner of The man the myth, the priceline.com singing legend, That's right kids! I own Canada's own William Shatner's CD The Transfomed Man! What pray tell is a Transformed Man? Well apparently, Mr. Shatner believed that it is a man who finds a connection with monologues of Shakespeare (with background hippy-esque music(hey what do you want, It was recoded by "Star Trek's Captain Kirk" In 1968))and the popular Music of the time! Yes, Mr. tamborine Man is there! Lucy and The Sky with Diamonds! And before he does the monolgues, he describes the scene it comes from and what his belief what the scene means!  Is it an embarassment, the ravaings of a mad man, or just a cd of pure musical genius? You Tell me!

You win hands down. Shatner's Mr Tamborine Man can't be beat.

Oh please! Try Mrs. Elva Miller's "Monday Monday" or "These Boots Are Made For Walking". Blows Shatner away.

I've got a couple of Tiny Tim CDs (they were free)... there's something utterly psychotic about him doing "Hey Jude."  WHOA.

Tiny Tim was actually a good musician. He was campy and went for laughs but he knew his stuff. The funniest is his Stairway to Heaven.

I met him (Tiny Tim) in 1991 after a concert he gave at our County Fair.

Scary looking man - I got his autograph.

If we're going entirely on how I feel about it, I'm not ashamed of any of my collection.

There are lots that I'm sure y'all think I should be ashamed of: all three regular 'Nsync albums, Christina Aguilera's Stripped, Nick Carter's Now Or Never, Justin Timberlake's Justified, 2003 Grammy Awards Nominees... and, P!nk's Can't Take Me Home and M!ssundaztood! are at the top of my to-buy list. *shrugs* But, I'm not ashamed of any of them, no matter how much my boyfriend thinks I should be... I like having some music like this around.

That's hilarious.

Snow is an incredible singer and one of *the* most hysterical characters! Drea and I saw him do a Bluebird North songwriters show with Jian, Jimmy Rankin and Brent Titcomb. His rendition of Mrs. Robinson with lyrics about smoking pot had the whole place laughing so hard we were almost in tears. :)
