If you mean "If you don't want me to insult the beatles, then who should I insult?" then I would respond, out of those choices, the grateful dead.

But if you mean, "if I don't like the beatles... then who SHOULD I like?".... then, I'd say.... wow.. tough choices.
Urgh.
I guess.... maybe... out of those options.... pink floyd... only because Piper at the Gates of Dawn was a good album.

I don't quite get what the dead are doing there, the rest arebritish invasion bands.
lawrence Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
British, yes. Invasion, no. I think Rolling Stones are the only band among those choices that I ever hear referenced with the "British Invasion." The rest became popular in the US much later. In fact, some of them didn't even exist until much later.

The Beach Boys the Beach Boys The Beach Boys

Seriously. When these dudes weren't singing about cars and girls and waves,t hey were revolutionizing pop music. The Beatles openly admit that much of their inspiration came from The Beach Boys. In fact, when Pet Sounds came out, it was so new and amazing that it sent the Beatles running to the studio. The result? Sgt. Pepper. Paul McCartney also hailed Brian Wilson as a musical genius.

yep. surf's up. :)

I COMPLETELY agree. Beach boys harmonies are unbeatable, Brian Wilson is genius, and when I was twelve I was a card-carrying member of their fan club. Mmhhmm.

Anyone know where I can find the movie? I heard it was hilarious.

If I am just trying to name the greatest artist on the pop music scene the one most comparable to the Beatles would be Dylan. They are my two touchstones. I'm guessing that he has been covered more often than anybody.
Samantha Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
I like Jeff Buckley's radio-call cover of "I Shall Be Released".... ^______^ mucho.. It's really good.. I downloaded it a long time ago.. and I was very impressed...
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years, 10 months ago

Against the Beatles, I'm not so sure that's true. It'd be interesting if someone had any stats. I do know that last I heard, Yesterday was the most covered song ever. Or it might have been, more precisely, most recorded. ("most covered" would seem to factor in live shows which you could never quantify unless everyone in the world is a stickler about submitting their set lists for that royalties procedure or whatever. :) )

I've heard a ton of Dylan covers, but I've heard more Beatles covers. That's no guarantee though, since I like the Beatles and dislike Dylan and therefore would notice the Beatles ones more. :)

Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
You might not have even realized that they were Dylan covers.

There is a question in the trivial pursuit about the Four Seasons covering Dylan's Don't Think Twice It's Alright under the pseudonym, The Wonder Who. My friend knew that version and couldn't believe that Dylan wrote it. They did it as a doo wop song and called it "Why Babe?"
Andrea Krause Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
Oh I totally agree. He pops up in unexpected places and it very heavily covered. I'm just not convinced in a comparison of quantity. :)

Does anyone else have the desire to say:

Number 2 stole the cookie from the cookie jar.

When reading the poll question?
Mamalissa! Back · 19 years, 10 months ago
actually, for me it brings up a song in Hebrew that is the proverb (and I don't know whether it's specifically Jewish)

"If I am not for myself, then who is for me. But if I'm only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?"
