I love my job. It has it's ups and downs, but given the compensation and most importantly the benefits I don't have alot to bitch about.

For the first time in a long time I don't hate my job. It's really hectic and stressful lately but not in the same way as past positions. Others I was overwhelmed and out of my league and dreading work every day so much that I wanted to die, crying at work, etc. I'd get in that cycle where I didn't know how to do something so I put it off and that just made everything worse and worse.

In this job...I'm good. I'm capable. I have a ton to do and a short time to do it in but I still feel at every stage that I'm capable of it. I know I can do these things and I'm good enough and I'm valuable and that is worlds beyond what I had in my old job.

So no...I don't love it because it's not easy and it can be a drudge. But it's not filled with misery for once.

i like that i have a job.

i like that it's more or less in my field.

but i hate the insane commute. and even more, i hate working someplace so corporate and dilbertified, and so full of workaholics. and i really don't care about the big picture, or what happens to the firm, or stupid work-related gossip and intrigue, or anything like that. i just care that the stuff our group produces is editorially correct

i work exactly 40 hours a week, unless it's absolutely necessary (i have no problem staying late if there's a very, very good reason, but most people here work 10-hour days just because they don't believe in having lives). then i go home and play music and write and have fun with my boy and do all the other things that make me happy.

My job struggles are a running theme. I'm glad I make money. I'm thankful that I can support my wife. I'm glad to stay busy. But I HATE. MY. JOB.

However, I must say that, as of late, I've been worried. Worried that I'll never find something I truly enjoy. Honestly, without a degree (I'm working on it), I can't think of anything I'd like to do. Maybe I hate this job, but maybe I'm just a lazy bastard who won't get behind anything that isn't insanely easy and non-committal.

I think my biggest problem with this job is that anyone could do it. I mean, monkeys writing Hamlet, right? At the same time, it makes it easier for me to get time off. But I don't feel like I'm doing anything worthwhile. I don't care in the LEAST about the company itself, how it succeeds or fails, or most of the people here, because honestly, some people here LIKE this job, and that's all well and good -- people are designed to do different things -- but it makes me take them far less seriously when they live to do data entry. Grrrr. I hate this job. Someone find me a better job!!

Phoenix Back · 20 years, 9 months ago

Yeah. The most part applies to my BSC as well. And the really bad news about Dilbert is that it's all true.

Actually I like my job and my various tasks in our rather smallish department with nice and friendy co-workers.And I have complete control over *how* I do my work. But there are bad days as well when I feel as if I were working in/for(?) the MatrixTM and I get haunted by this Andrew Kerr song to no end...

Edit: correct linky is: http://www.andrewkerr.com/newsite/content-lyrics.html#moreforme(fhdc seems to screw it up)

I found a job in Washington, but of course, I don't start it until I'm in Washington.
Rimbo Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Washington? Like, DC? Maybe you're the president!!!
Annika Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
*nods* Yes. I found the job online.
Washington State. I'll be working in Bothell. =D
Rimbo Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
Oh. Not the president, huh? Too bad. I had big plans. *cancels plans*
Annika Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
If those big plans included some lovin' so you could be in my cabinet... they would have worked. *rowr!*
Rimbo Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
I could be the undersecretary of love! Hee hee . . . "undersecretary".

If you had asked me this exact question last summer, it would have been a resounding "i can't sand it." i was doing office work and did not like it at all. but for some reason, as a summer job, waitressing is my favorite. it's fun, i get to be outside, and i get tips.

A Scott Adams line. This is a paraphrase. The world is Dilbert is filled with talking dinosaurs and people turning to puddles of ooze yet every day people come up to me and say "that just like where I work."
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 20 years, 9 months ago
ummm..perhaps. ;)

I love my cult... er... job.

I work for a wonderful company which does nothing bad to anyone that I've seen. We employees are treated amazingly well. I love my coworkers. They are my best friends and I look forward to going to work to see them. I'm challenged at work in ways that I never have been before and that is extraordinarily rewarding.

I could go on forever, but I think you're all pretty sick of hearing me rant about The Container Store.
