How do you feel about fluorescent lighting?

it's so hard on the eyes. the best kind of artificial lighting is full spectrum lighting. it doesn't distort colours or cause a nasty blinding glare or anything. I suppose it's a type of fluorescent, but not really what most people think of when they think of fluorescent lights.
it's more expensive, but totally worth it.

The buzz gets to me a lot of the time.
Given a choice, I'd just open windows and leave most lights off. Not that that's always an option, but it's more of one than most people seem to think. I never understood why my school didn't just leave most lights off durring the day. We had enough windows.
My english classes never have the lights on. Last year the teacher used mirrors to direct sunlight at a discoball.

I use the compact fluorescents in all the fixtures I use the most to save energy. I might be my imagination but I find the light pleasanter than a long fluorescent bulb's.
i thinkmost of the compact fluorescentsarea little more balanced in lighting quality than regular incandescents -- they're not nearly as yellow in light tone. not quite as good as full-spectrum incandescents, but quite acceptable. the "fluorescent full-spectrum" bulbs i tried, on the other hand, were hideous, dreary, dingy blue -- we had intended to use them for outdoor lighting, but i banished them quickly because they made the house look spooky and uninviting. maybe good for repelling robbers, but not the light you want to turn on out front when you're trying to welcome friends.

i think fluorescent lighting has its place, in areas that get infrequent use but need bright lighting when they're occupied. my basement (strictly laundry and utility space) for example. it doesn't bother me there, because i don't live down there.
we have a few compact fluorescent bulbs installed around the house, mostly in lamps that are on timers, but mostly we use incandescent natural-spectrum lighting -- or no artificial lighting and wide-open window shades on bright days. it keeps me happy in the winter, and that's of the good.
