Current Thoughts on the Hiatus/Breakup

Discussion: Current Thoughts on the Hiatus/Breakup

When Fruvous first when on hiatus I was optimistic about their eventual return. This was based more than anything on what happened to other bands. It seemed to me that if a band had a real history at some point they'd get back together. This season brought another incident of this. The Roches are performing together again for the first time in 7 years. I had stalked them from 1998 till their last show. I got very discouraged about their eventual return when I spoke to someone that was a guitar student of Terre. He told me that she said that she said she'd never do it again. Then last year during they all got together to do a Fundraiser for Kerry. Now this year they are doing a series of Christmas shows. I am listening to the three of them being interviewed right now. So while it isn't a sure thing I still believe Fruvous will perform again.

Oh, it'll probably happen - I think that at some point all the guys will be at the same place and it will be spontaneous. And they'll realize that they've missed performing with each other and maybe do a few gigs. But I don't see a return to actual *touring* in the cards. Though festival gigs are a definite possibility...

I gave them five years, which looks to be a bit short ;-)

I'd be surprised if they never recorded together again. I'm sure they won't tour as extensively. Actually, I could see one last huge tour, if they decided to officially end things. I'm not sure why they would ever need/want to do that though. I've never understood bands "breaking up" on good terms. I can see it when there's a major rift, and I can see "we're not going to work together in the near future", but a break up seems needlessly final. Seven years between albums isn't unheard of for bands who are still active. They'll play together when they feel it.

*shrug*

I'd love to hear them back together. Honestly, I'm more curious about what they could do as a studio-based band instead of a touring band. I'd love to see them perform together, even if only one song at a tribute concert.
I'd really like to see a Tall New Buildings reunion tour ;-)

Really though, so long as the band is happy, that's what matters.

the "one last big tour" thing wouldn't be feasible, i don't think. their entire fan base has grown up/moved out/moved on/gotten married/had kids/gone to school/gotten jobs ...

without the momentum that they had back then, i don't think they could get away with a huge tour of any sort. not without building up some steam, at least.

and does anyone remember their last show during that frucon weekend? was i the only one slightly disappointed?

Oh, I don't think they'd have a following going town to town, but if they did, say, a concert in Vancouver and/or Seattle, one in Chicago, one in Ohio (either Canal Street or Columbus), one in Philly, one in NYC, and one final show in Toronto, (with, possibly, a FRFF show somewhere in there) they'd have a good audience at each show.
(I imagine there would be more stops, but these were the major places that came to mind for a short tour)

As I said though, I don't think they'll do that anyways. Even if they never do play together again, I don't think there's any reason for them to declare the band "over" either.

Northampton would be a must in that little tour. :) Iron Horse is very important.

D'oh! I knew I was missing at least one obvious place.

Frucon 2001?

I don't remember anything spectacular about that show.

Only thing I remember is j! and I snarking in the back. :)

Hey, The Hooters never officially broke up, and now they're recording a new album after at least a decade. So, there's hope!

because they have no reason to. It is reasonable to expect that they will all four perform together again at some point, as they are all in close contact, and work together in combinations on a variety of things. They are friends in real life, and they all live in the same city. Of course they'll play together again *eventually*. Touring, OTOH is something else. I think the most likely scenario would be a few festival dates.

Also, I know after the Toronto Opera House gig, there was a feeling that new songs needed to be written for it not to feel weird. But maybe after enough time, they wouldn't need that and could be a "nostalgia" act. :)

I'd be willing to visit Canada to see them perform. If I had a job that paid well enough to afford the costs that is. I wonder what their set list would be...

aj, that's so weird you made that post about fruvous becoming a nostalgia act, because i JUST woke up from a dream where fordy had his own manilow-style show in vegas, complete with pyrotechnics and a sequined suit. ow, my brain.

I have a friend who claims that Jian was recorded saying that Fruvous would tour in fall 2006 at a CBCunlocked concert. He cannot however produce the supposed podcast where he heard it....

Some people also claim to have seen UFOs...

;D
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Pat Robertson said anyone who believes in UFOs should be stoned.

;)
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Maybe he meant to say that anyone that believes in UFOs must be stoned.
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 1 month ago
Maybe he was stoned when he said it.
