Poll: Favorite booooze

Me and alcohol don't mix anymore.. after that 3/4 bottle of Vodka in 20 minutes thing... not good.. never again. I know.. I know.. I could just drink LESS.. but I prefer to just not drink at all.. I actually rather like being sober.

Can't. As my grandmother says, "Can't means won't," although i doubt she applies that to alcohol. I do drink, like, water and stuff though. Other sustaining liquids...so that i don't become a corpse.

I don't drink very often but I actually had my favorite drink tonight, a bailey's coffee. just coffee with Bailey's cream. Yummy. It was my second one this year, I'm becoming a lush.

Guinness to be exact.
Really, anything that isn't water with a little bit of beerish flavor attatched is fine with me. (ie: I'm not a fan of anything with "lite" in the name ;-)

Although part of me wants to revote so that cider can have some love.

i didnt vote for cider even though my second favorite drink is Strongbow - i had to go with wine. i loooooooooooove a good merlot.

I really have extremely low tolerance but I enjoy a glass of wine every now and again. But anything above a glass and I become garrulous and maudlin.

I think ciders have a bad reputation, on par with coolers and 'flavored malt beverages.' I can't imagine why, especially considering the crap that passes for beer in the States.

I voted ciders, but it's really a tough call. My drink of choice is called a Black Velvet (locally... I'm not sure how common the name is, but they called it something else in Indiana.), Guinness over cider, stacked like a Black & Tan.� It's hard to find, since most places don't have cider on tap.

It depends a lot on my mood and whether or not food is served.� Stouts and Reds are near the top of my list, red wines are good, and tequila is a gift from God (in whatever form you believe).

Lately, I've been modifying my Mike's Hard Lime.� Drink about 2 oz and add 1.5 oz. Tequila.� It tastes like a weak margarita, but I think it's technically stronger ounce for ounce.

Yeah, I've noticed a bit of a cider stigma too. I've never understood it, as it's a fairly traditional drink *shrug*

I've never heard of cider over Guinness, but now I feel a strong need to go and find some. Of course, first I'd have to find somewhere with cider and Guinness on tap. Perhaps you should come open an pub up here?

I actually kind of like Mikes when I've had it in Canada, but the American version tastes a bit too much like Kool-Aid. Then again, I'm one of the odd folks who actually likes the taste of alcohol. I think that's linked to the black coffee gene ;-)

I don't like the flavor of alcohol, but the subtlety in hard liquors is a lot of fun.� I can't take rum unless its frou-frou, or vodka outside of a highball.� Gin and tequila have flavors of their own that adds to any drink... the scent alone can get my mouth watering. :-)

I'm not sure if Mike's is different across the border, but the bitterness of the lime works really well.� The other variants are too sweet.

Perhaps you should come to Chicago.� The Daily has both on tap (although they had pear cider the last time I was in, and the combination has godawful), and I'm sure I could find one or two others that can figure out the mix. :-)

From what I remember, they can have actual vodka in Mike's up north. I don't remember it tasting nearly as sugary as it does down here. It's also been about five years since I had it, so I could just be imagining things ;-)

I'd be happy to come out to Chicago. Find us and apartment, and pull some strings to get me into grad school (or a job with the Encyclopedia Britannica or This American Life) and I'm there ;-)

Pear cider is very dry.� If you don't like residual sugars, you'd probably enjoy it.� I don't like pears so the cider is a lost cause with me. :-)

If you're even remotely serious, I know of a very nice one bedroom that's open now.� If I had any strings to pull, I'd have a job... but you've got an undergrad degree, so you qualify for most of them that I'd want.

hee. that sounds like i'm a lush, but it's more a matter of what the situation is -- and how hot the weather is. I'll have wine (red! Shiraz or Pinot Noir, preferably!) with a nice dinner or for a social evening, but a beer if i'm winding down in front of the tv. If it's not beastly hot, occasionally i'll have a mixed drink, especially if i'm out at a bar, or a single-malt scotch. I definitely enjoyed the light refreshingness of cider in Spain, but i'm not sure of its quality/availability here. (ie, I haven't bothered to look into it.) And if it's a chilly winter night, there's nothing like a nice brandy or a Sambuca.

The only things I really won't touch are tequila and vodka. Tequila makes me ill, and vodka is a major depressant for me -- I don't know why, because other liquors really aren't.

I just don't like vodka. Even the good stuff reminds me of rubbing alcohol.

...because i'm not sure what sweet liqueurs fall under (lord, godiva chocolate liqueur).

i don't drink them regularly (i don't drink anything regularly), but they are the alcohol that gives me the most pleasure.

Out of idle curiosity, did you once�get really plastered on tequila?

I'm asking because everyone I've met who can't drink tequila has been completely sloshed on it (usually their first time being 'puking drunk') and hasn't been able to take the flavor, smell, or sound of tequila.�

I've also heard that some people don't like it because of the worm, but, since tequila doesn't have a worm, those people are easily dismissed.

why yes, as a matter of fact. "puking drunk" describes it nicely.

the only time i ever had it, i had two strawberry margaritas, not realizing it was "triples night" at that bar, and I have never. been sicker from alcohol. ever.

i haven't been able to face tequila since.

even if it was "triples night", that's only six drinks, which if it had been any other alcohol of my acquaintance would likely have given me a headache and possibly a tender tummy, but not left me hurling for a day and a half.

I love gin. I don't know why.

My favorite drink is the Blue Ruin. It's only made properly at one place, which I can't understand because it sounds fairly simple -- gin and tonic with blue curacao. However, the balance is very delicate and it needs to be in a perfect ratio.

If anyone in Toronto or who is going to be in Toronto wants to come, I'm always ready for a trip to Last Temptation in Kensington Market :)

Won't turn down a good wine, though.

Next time you're in Toronto, I know a place that serves them with real whipped cream on top.
