I am all about the long hair. Down the back, past the waist.... yum.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
i have to say i love the look of long pretty-pretty-princess hair too -- but the impracticality of it wears *very* thin. especially once it's below elbow length, and gets in the way when you're sleeping or working over something.

i wondered if i'd hate myself for cutting mine, but i really don't miss the bother of trying to comb out the tangles after every washing. or the headaches it caused with its weight. or most everything else about it.
Bender Back · 20 years ago
also, some people with long hair don't know how to take care of it and it ends up looking kinda skeevy.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
and you never told me! *cries*
Bender Back · 20 years ago
yours never looked skeevy! it was regal.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago

yaye!

*preens*

it's good it was regal, since I am Queen. according to the cats and Mike Ford, anyway. :D

(edit: for further proof of Mike's opinion, see the last photo in my profile. :) )

i enjoyed having long hairand rediculously long hairand i am currently sporting short hair.

but i must say i enjoy it the most when it's medium-length, in that it's a good mix of charming and managable.

sheryls Back · 20 years ago

err, i meant to add, and i agree with lori, sometimes the lenght is an annoyance beyond its aesthetic value.

plus with hair as thick and heavy as mine, you can put it back, or down. that's it.

meh · 20 years ago
There's a lot to be said for long hair. That's very very true.

But really short? When it's just the right texture to smooth a hand over, and always so soft? Mmmm. Verra nice as well.

It all depends on what looks best on the particular woman.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
i must say i love the feel of buzzed hair -- with maybe 1/4-1/2 inch left on. not that i've ever had it, but i've rubbed a few pates and it's lovely. :)
Joy- new picture! · 20 years ago
Short, please.
Bender · 20 years ago
Different cuts for different gals, I say.

i agree. i find human beauty to be infinitely varied. that's what makes beauty so fascinating, that it's not about "correct.*"

I have girls with short hair as an lj interest. 'nuff said.

It always depends on the girl though :)
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
that's just funny, because you selected the shortest amount to chop off when i did my lj poll pre-haircut. :D I guess you were trying to spare me the trauma of taking it all off at once.
Annika · 20 years ago
I like it long. Although my hair is medium/short atm.
Andrea Krause · 20 years ago
I wish there was a way to break it down by gender and/or preference of the voters, for curiosity's sake. Just from conversations it seems most guys like women with long hair...and more women like it shorter because they may know what a pain long hair is. :) Sweeping and inaccurate generalizations, of course.

My hair used to be really long. And I thought it was pretty, but boring. Like...I didn't know what to DO With it other than "up in bun", "down loose" or "in braids". Just became so f-ing boring. So I chopped it off. Ever since...I adore myself with myhair between ear and shoulderblade length. I can't bring myself to grow it too long without chopping it off. So much easier, so must less boring. I look back at pics with my long hair and can't help but think it looked like ass. Particularly because I think it made my fat face look even fatter. :)

I dunno.. I prefer longer hair... and I had long hair for YEARS and know what a pain it is. :)

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago

I may be wrong, but I think a guy with long hair has it a bit easier than a girl with long hair. Or a least my experience when I had long hair...I felt like I needed to make it interesting by finding styles for it instead of resorting to the big three. A guy with long hair can more easily get away with it not having a STYLE. :) To just have it down or in a ponytail or in a bun or whatever felt so unfeminine.

nate... Back · 20 years ago
Hrm... perhaps.

See, I guess, though, I don't see WHY girls feel the need to do that.

I mean, as a guy who likes girls with longer hair... I've never really cared if they DID anything with it...

It can just be THERE, ya know?
:)

(Technically, by this poll's naming, I prefer "medium"...)

Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago
Maybe I'm the only one who feels the need to. Maybe I looked unfeminine without doign stuff to my hair because I'm inherently unfeminine. :) But I just look at pics in my profile from when my hair was long and just hanging there and to me it looks like a big fat unfeminine grody thing. :)
Talcott Back · 20 years ago
I'm not sure if a bun can ever be considered unfeminine.

If there's a way to pull that off, can someone let me know, because the closest I can think of is sumo wrestler-style, and I don't think that's quite what I'd be going for ;-)
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago
Ok, how about feminine but "matronly". :)

It's a topknot, and that different.

lawrence Back · 20 years ago
maybe the 'how do you prefer long hair on women' could be another poll. :)

And it really is hard to generalise to a few short answers. I know I answered a very emphatic 'LONG!' but now that I think about it, the thing that I really go for is movement. So even long hair that's just kept up all the time doesn't do anything for me. But even if it's just long enough to move or to play with that works for me. The only thing I really don't like is 'so short it just sits there and does nothing at all' and 'buzz cut or shaved', or, like I mentioned above, 'long but up'.
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years ago

So with that in mind...what's your stance on hair product?

I barely ever can stand to use it because my hair stops moving or feels like crispy or something. I just let my hair air dry and do what it wants to. It makes for unpredictable results, but at least I can touch my own hair without being grossed out by product. :)

lawrence Back · 20 years ago
I am very much not a fan of product. product-infused hair doesn't move, doesn't swing or blow, and is, as far as I'm concerned, pretty boring. :)

plus, the thing you mentioned, that it's just kind of gross stuff.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
the funny thing there is, shorter hair requires more styling product, at least with my heavy totally straight hair. i don't like the stuff, so i only use it if i'm really dressing up, but it does make a real difference in terms of it keeping its freshly-styled loft. without product, it's flat and limp in half an hour, sometimes less.

the fact that short hair requires more styling product is more than balanced by no longer needing to buy vats of conditioner, though. :D
sheryls Back · 20 years ago
yes. my most recent haircut takes5 products (tonic, straightner, grooming cream, hair spray, and wax), a blow dryer and a flattening iron to do this.otherwise, it tends to look pretty crappy.
Bruce Rose Back · 20 years ago

As far as movement, long hair can take a lot of effort to move. It can't really be flipped without an exaggerated and laughable head toss. If you're talking about wind/walking motion, it can still tangle badly.

Bender Back · 20 years ago
tangle isn't even the word.

I love really long hair, below the waist is great, to the knees even better.

All the really cool baby sitters can sit on their hair.

As someone who changes her hair more often than a celebrity, I have to say it depends. Currently I am enjoying short perky-like piecy hair, and I like it very much for how it makes me look older and its low maintenance style.

But i've also had super long hair that I could braid in all sorts of way, layered shoulder length hair that framed my face well, super short spiky hair, and bobs. I like changing it up a bit.

I see hair like sentences. Sometimes you want long flowing sentences that never stop for air. Other times quick literary punctuation really does it.

I really like to grow my hair long and then cut it all off so I get that dramatic difference in look overnight, and everyone oohs and ahhs at me. ;)
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago
we "ooh" and "aah" over you for other reasons as well. :)

buzzed chicks = teh sexxy
dirty life & times Back · 20 years ago
i voted for that too! even though i like all kinds of hair, girls with buzzed heads are always special. & it takes a lot of guts if you've had long hair.
renita · 20 years ago
on the girl.

i love all lengths and styles... on other people.

i'm growing my hair out right now, and a part of me wants to have the patience to grow it way way out... the longest i've ever gone is shoulder blade length.

but as it's only just collarbone length and i already have urges to CHOP CHOP CHOP. i don't know if i'll make it.

i miss my shaved head... LOTS.
stealthlori Back · 20 years ago

clearly you need to have Air Canada do something about that for you. :D

I used to have just past my waist length hair... and it was curly. so the tangle situation was huge, it used to get closed in doors, sat on, caught in zippers (don't ask). and then when I started to get sick it started to get thin and sometimes worse than thin so I cut it short. its much more managable now and the decrease of people who want to boink me so they can pull on it has been great! course I kinda look like an elfyzil now, but thats okay.
