In New York we use mechanical lever machines.

What he said... In my locality we use mechanical levers. I voted absentee though, which was with a pen and paper (hand read I presume).

We used to have paper ballots, but we got the new computerized system this year.

But it sure looked to me like an optical scan paper ballot.

i hate, hate, hate the punch cards. the card and the ballot line up about a quarter-inch crooked, so it's really hard to know what you're doing, at least when you get to the 5000 judges we needed to yea or nay.

Crappy digital voting machines with the stupid wheel on them. Don't produce a paper record which I bitched about as I left. Oh well, not like who I voted for is going to win....

it had a little booklet of candidates & then a punch card full of corresponding numbers (at least i hope they were corresponding) that i punched out with a pin.

We connect the arrow next to our candidate's name and then feed the paper through the machine.
