Yeah.... I look like an ass doing it, I'm sure, but I can dance.

I much prefer slow dancing though. ;)

I dance in my own home. I can't stand dancing in public. I already feel stupid and conspicuous enough on a daily basis.

I am also known around my household for my special dances. Like the "yay chicken tacos!" dance...or the "I cleaned the kitchen!" dance or the "stop playing that video game and let's go get pizza" dance. There's a dance for all occasions. They're usually rather silly.

can't believe the 'no legs' option made the cut. :D

I spent most of my life avoiding dancing. Then I decided to get my nerve up and try it. I've actually been told i was good at slow dancing. I think that was because I was being compared to someone awful. I know I'm not good.

I Contra Dance every year at FRFF and have tried other dances. The ones I can't handle are the formulated ones. Two people have tried to teach me to Waltz to no avail. The same goes for the Cajun two-step, or is that the Zydeco two-step?

none of this stops me from dancing of course. Last time I went to a wedding I danced every dance.

Shall we dance? 123!
sheryls · 20 years, 5 months ago

i can't one on one dance very well at all. i have had to do several dances for musicals, though, and if i practice a *LOT* and it's *extremely choreographed* i can do it.

I've had to:

line and country dance (for Joseph, along with a Grand Right-and-Left)
Jazz dance (for show choir and Joseph)
Do the Pony - often (for Joseph. go go go jo!)
polka (for Hello, Dolly)
circle-dance (for Fiddler)

..other than musicals/choir, i suck :D

oh, nitsa... we've just been introduced. I do not know you well, but when the music started something drew me to your side...

I'm a pretty decent dancer, I just get nervous and then silly in public. But I'm getting over that.

My waiting-for-the-subway pirouettes are getting pretty sweet

o/~ One upon a time I was a shy young thing / Could barely walk and talk, let alone dance and sing / So let me hit that stage, I wanna take my bow / 'cause Momma, I'm a big girl now! o/~

I'm not much of a natural dancer
But I've got a friend who's a natural dancer
You could call her a jumpin' bean
She's got ants in her pants and she's gonna dance

(holy crap, I can't believe TMBG used the phrase 'ants in her pants'. sheesh)
sheryls Back · 20 years, 5 months ago

that always makes me think of Cartman.

"Ants in the pants?!? ANTS IN THE PANTS?!?!"

renita · 20 years, 5 months ago
i swing dance, various forms.

i've also started doing some old jazz stuff, black bottom and stuff of the like. those are a BLAST.

hip hop for lindy hoppers... but i suck at it, i just can't get the attitude right for it.

i want to take some ballet, to work on my form. and soem argentinian tango, because it's beautiful.

The wife and I took dancing lessons for almost 2 years. Learned how to dance everything from foxtrot and waltz, to rumba and cha-cha, to swing and country (2-step, 3-step, country waltz).

Also know how to "get jiggy wit it", although I may not be the most graceful club dancer but I can get down and move it when I have to.

wildbill and I use to hit Lizard Lounge and Club One when he lived here. (Ah, the good old days!).

I feel most comfortable when I contra dance, cause really, it doesn't involve much coordination of specific steps involving the feet and plus I get the chance to dance with a bunch of people all at once. It's so much fun.

I have tried swing dancing to less success. But most of the times at various dances, I'm not ashamed of what I do and I just end up moving around like an idiot, which is fine with me.

I got rhythm... i got music... i got my man, who could ask fer anythin' more??

brag time... i am a natural at dancing, can learn just about any type and become moderately proficient at it in a short period of time.

took a crash course over a summer in Tap and then did "Crazy for You" in the fall; which was mostly all tap all the time :)

learned pretty much the entire 8-week Lindy Level 1 class in an evening, with a couple of lifts and fancyspins(tho now its been years and i can't remember it *sobs*)

I'ma Contra fool as of last Thanksgiving weekend... tho was too busy and too hot to Contra at FRFF.

Color Guard/Indoor Color Guard in HS... Drill Team in college (AFROTC)... frequenting dance clubs on the weekends in my younger more lively days... dabbled in middle eastern dancing and European Court and Country Dancing in the SCA

yeah... i can dance, when the spirit moves me ;)

we now return you to your normally humble and soft-spoken angie.

Clearly, I haven't met this particular angie.

I can dance like a muppet. Which mostly involves moving my hands back and forth.

I also do some other weird moves that look kind of like dancing.

And there's a photo around here of me doing the snoopy dance at frcon.

That's about it ;-)
Mamalissa! · 20 years, 5 months ago
Yup. I can dance. Dig it.

STOP PLAYING?!?!?!?!?!

Surely, you jest.

That's right, I called you Shirley.
Magical Bob · 20 years, 5 months ago
Anyone ever hear the Smothers Brothers' song with the best dancer in the entire world? His favorite dance was the waltz, but he was so good that no one would dance with him. One lonely night, dancing by himself, he noticed someone else dancing all alone. It was a girl with three legs. Two of them right legs. They danced the whole night: One Two Three! One Two! One Two Three! One Two! One Two Three! One Two!

Funny 60s folksters...

The same goes for the Cajun two-step, or is that the Zydeco two-step?

i think i've taught you both. the cajun two-step is the one we did at the dance tent this year. the zydeco two-step is the one where you stay in one place.
