I think there is, someplace. We've already discovered evidence of planets, and odds are there is another planet someplace in this galaxy the right distance from its star to support life, like Earth is from Sol.
Besides, none of this Star Trek stuph is going to come true if there isn't intelligent life someplace else. :-P

I think there is definitely intelligent life in the Universe, but probably not in the Galaxy. Well, there *could be* in the galaxy, which is why I put undecided :)
because there isn't any here. :)
And now I'm earwormed with The Galaxy Song.... oOand pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, cos there's bugger all down here on Earth Oo

I was in camp. I was sixteen. I was cast in one of the plays (I was a theater major). Jeff, the most awesome director ever, hadn't given out the roles yet. An original musical, a twisted version of the wizard of oz using pink floyd music. It rocked. Adam, my friend, had helped to write it and knew what Jeff had decided on for casting, but Jeff wasn't telling us until tomorrow. I was moping and all depressed, mostly because Jameka spurned me, but a large part of it was that I was convinced I could never have a good role, I was too fat and too ugly and couldn't sing and couldn't act and I was considering going home. It was the first friggin' week of camp, not my first year, either. Adam smacked me upside the head (not literally. well, maybe.) and started talking me out of my mope. Then he started singing the Galaxy Song. His wavering-but-trying fourteen-year-old voice just... made everything better. That last line, to this day, makes me feel better, always. I guess it was because he knew that Jeff had casted me as Glinda (a much cooler part in this version than in any others at the time, seeing as the musical version of Wicked was still being banged out on paper, in all likelihood). Jeff remains to this day my biggest theatrical inspiration. Adam remains one of the best friends a girl can have. I mean, seriously, we do things like read bad, bad porn to each other on the phone. The best one so far was the gay borg porn he read to me the other day. Yeeeeeek.
As soon as I saw the poll today I thought to myself that I should have added a, "I don't believe there is intelligent life on earth," choice.
there IS no intelligent life here on earth.. I'm moving out!
I don't think there are other planets full of other creatures, humanoid or otherwise. I do believe there is God, and that He is intelligent, but He isn't alive (because that would mean that He could be not alive, and He just kinda is.
it's be an awful waste of space if there weren't. Humanoid? Maybe. Intelligent in some fashion, yes.
I so hope that there's intelligent life somewhere in outer space since it would increase the probability of development of intelligent life on earth, too. ;-D
I do believe it's probably out there somewhere. But I don't know if I can say in the galaxy. If the question had been phrased more broadly I think I would have been a definite yes.
I'd be willing to bet that there are gobs of other, completely different forms of life. I doubt they're anything remotely resembling ourselves, though. It's a big universe. If only one out of a billion planets evolved some form of life, that's a lot of life. I doubt we'll ever discover for sure, but it's still interesting to ponder.
I doubt we'll ever discover for sure
the surest sign that there's intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us. :)
I belive calvin said that.
Anyone read "Ender's Game" and "Speaker For the Dead?" Those books will make you question what we define as intelligent. What if other life was intelligent, but we just couldn't understand each other? I recommend both Ender's Game and its sequel. Very entertaining, easy to read books with interesting message.
I did a report on this in 9th grade, therefore, I refer you all to:
Drake's Equation
Which basically says, scientifically, what Ellie Arroway says in Contact (the movie, I have yet to read the book, go ahead, shoot me)
"The Universe... is a pretty big place. It's bigger than anything, anyone has ever dreamed of before. So, if it's just us... it seems like an awful waste of space."
