aw, c'mon people, bargainville is classic! and besides, as much as i love wood, if i got to singing it to my plants, i think they'd all wilt from depression *grin* :)
nate... Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
bah! Wood cheers me up. :)
emilie is CRANKY Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
you can't really dance to it though, can you? try bopping to 'nuits de reve', it just doesn't work :D
Rachel Beck Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
I'm with you. Sometimes. Anybody else find this a very hard question to answer? For me my favorite album is mood-dependent.
goovie is married! Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
i found it a hard question to answer, mainly because i prefer live versions of the songs over the studio versions -- which are often tinny, or seem too slow, or, or, or. *shrug*
Mistress Rabean Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
I dance to "Nuits de reve." :)
Starfox · 22 years, 8 months ago
Come on, how can you not think Wood is the best? By far there best lyrically and emotionally. The other fun stuff is good, but doesn't compare to Wood.

Mmm....Wood.
soul groove feline · 22 years, 8 months ago
c'mon...there is not a SINGLE bad song on Wood...except, erm, Organ Grinder. I just didn't like that at all. But...Down From Above is lyrical genius...and I LOVE Horseshoes, and Fly, and Sad Today... actually, it was a close fight with You Will Go To The Moon, which has that 70's surfer rock dude which I ADORE...and then there's Live Noise and Bargainville which are a close tie for 3rd place...B was okay...the only album I sincerely and truly dislike is C...it seems haphazardly put together and sort of rushed...and the lyrics just don't have the quality of Bargainville and Wood...sorry lads, but...the Norbals?
Josh Woodward Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
it was haphazardly put together and rushed, and that's part of the charm for me. :-) i'll agree with you about the norbals, but that's the only song on it i don't love. other than that, there are some classics on it, even some tunes that would be amazing tracks on real albums with a little touching up (goal judge, wild boy, heatseeker).

Oh yeah? What about "Present Tense Tureen"? Right up there on the list of most pointless songs ever. (I also don't like "Nuits de Reve" or "Sad Today," but I guess I won't call them bad songs...)
ellen Back · 22 years, 8 months ago

bah! I love the pointless charm of Present Tense Tureen. I remember my first couple of shows where I so badly wanted them to play that... but they chose a couple of very Wood-light sets. *giggle*

I also urge ya'll that haven't heard it to get your hands on a copy of Present Tense Tureen as heard on the Live From FRFF album... it includes the -original- Tent Song banter :)

trunger is counting... Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
what?! you hate the french stuff?! nuits de reve is so cool. me and my bro play it all the time.
... and then dave said Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
i have to agree here... while bargainville and thornhill are two of the greatest albums that i've ever heard (apologies to ywgttm which is great - and to b & c which are very good in their own right - for the lack of mention in the "greatest albums" category), wood is a masterpiece of music, harmony and especially lyrics. this is, if i may be so bold as to say, the most well-written album in existence... i am including sargeant pepper and the white album by the beatles, and slim shady by eminem (ha -- just kidding about that... and i apologize for cluttering your brain with the mention of that name)
A girl named Becca · 22 years, 8 months ago
Wow...I'm surprised there's any competition! I've never heard *anyone* say their favorite was something other than Bargainville before!
Josh Woodward Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
I'm actually pretty suprised by the showing for Live Noise. I've always pictured any given Fruhead as belonging to one of two camps: the Bargainville camp or the Wood camp. I'd always pictured the two camps as being about the same size..

We'll see what happens to the vote tonight when all the insomniacs toss in their thoughts. I suspect Bargainville will gain a few votes. *grins*
A girl named Becca Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
Yeah...I can understand the Wood fans, I guess...but even then, whenever I've had discussions about Fruvous albums, the only debate has been what comes in second (Wood, Thornhill, or YWGttM).... *Shrug.
emilie is CRANKY Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
i think that people also forget about the fact that the B and C albums have several good choons on them, and they're not always to be left out of the running... if that makes any sense :)
Bruce Rose · 22 years, 8 months ago
I'm happy to see such a lively discussion on this topic, but I'm distressed at the rather miserable showing for You Will Go To The Moon. I'll admit I'm not your typical Fruhead, but I'd like to see this one pull above 11%. I also find it hard to believe that their best work was released seven (or even eight) years ago.
While Bargainville reflects their quirkier side and Wood shows a more emotional twist, YWGTTM presents a happy medium. Alternately fun, serious, political, and experimental... for me, YWGTTM is my album of choice when I need a Fruvous fix.
This topic is so good, I'll continue it in my new proifile.
Brian Dinsky · 22 years, 8 months ago
wood is where its at. bargainville, you still rock.
soul groove feline · 22 years, 8 months ago
actually, I'm not surprised about Live Noise getting a lot of votes...I like it because it's kind of a nice mix of a couple different styles of Fruvous. However, I could do without all the talking on it...I mean, as much as I like hearing the lads talk, they do so too much on that album. And it's kind of irritating when I'm trying to dance around while doing laundry or something and I have to go all the way to the CD player and fast forward because I can't dance to talking :-)

Also...I don't like that grunge version of King Of Spain...I don't like that song much to begin with...my favorite on that album is still prolly the Drinking Song. and Fly. I like the studio version of Horseshoes WAY better than the live version.

by the way...I agree present tense tureen is the most pointless song ever written. i just forgot that one is on Wood. heh.
frukid · 22 years, 8 months ago
I think it's hard to pick really! And it's not a fair question!!!
A girl named Becca · 22 years, 8 months ago
C?! I mean, OK, we're all entitled to our opinions...but...I just...well...I don't really dislike C...but it has no depth! Who votes for "hmm...this is kinda fun..." over "wow...that was beautiful..."?
nate... Back · 22 years, 8 months ago
The people who voted for bargainville? *wink*

:) (fwiw, I'm just kidding, bargainville does have some of my favorite songs on it.... but for me, there's no comparison... wood is far and away my favorite overall.)
Unrequitted · 22 years, 8 months ago
I absolutely LOVE Bargainville, and it was my first Fruvous album. Wood is very good too- but I was listening to it for the first time during a very sad point in my life, so it is permentantly stuck with sadness.
... and then dave said · 22 years, 8 months ago
now, time to make a case for bargainville... i'm not trying to be wishy-washy, but something should be said for bargainville... it has all of the fun that a person could possibly want with songs like the lazy boy, mblaboa, king of spain, bj don't cry, etc... (we all know the fun songs on this album) but also has some tremendously-written songs like the gulf war song, bitter sweet and the drinking song! so, as, overall, wood is a bit more well-written as a whole, to try to choose my favorite overall is a mind-numbing task and i refuse.

y'know how Fruvous was this hugely successful novelty act when Bargainville came out and then when they did Wood their popularity sort of dropped? The hardcore fans, the ones who stayed with Fruvous beyond Bargainville or discovered them later (i.e. us) are the ones who like albums like Wood and don't shy away from that sort of slow emotional sometimes downer-ish but oh-so- beutiful stuff. Just a theory. *shrug*
