Oh, Russell Wolff will have yet another CD release party at the Budgiedome this summer. And he's bringing two guys from his band on snare drum and bass! It's full band Russell at the Budgiedome!

FFF got a headlining (saturday night) slot at FRFF??? wow. that surprises me.

i guess no one can tell anne she isn't mixing it up this year!
nate... Back · 21 years ago
No kidding, eh?

They didn't even go through the new artist showcase thing... and pretty much everyone who has ever been in that is better than them.

;)

word. :)

*runs away*
Phoenix Back · 21 years ago

so true.

FRFF '04 = FRFF on crack ?

nate... Back · 21 years ago
I guess we'll find out... if the lineup ends up being FFF, The Nields and the Kennedy's ... we'll know it's just going to go downhill from there.

:)

Don't be dissin' on the FFF! They were really good! Heck, my a cappella group has done two of their songs!! *punch*

Word.

not being snarky--this is an honest question:

besides the dona nobis beer song, don't they only do covers/traditionals? (and at that, even the dona nobis beer is still a traditional piece, they just changed the text.) or do you mean you did their arrangements? if they've started to do more originals, my respect for them definitely goes up several notches.
*joolee* Back · 21 years ago

Arrangements. Since they are traditional pieces, it's really hard to pin down an original of that, so I just say theirs...but I really do enjoy their arrangements.

Remember what Pete Seeger said: "It's not called stealing, it's called the FOLK PROCESS."

A.J. Back · 21 years ago
Indeed. What I think FRFF lacks is more people doing trad mateial. Folk has come to mean "Singer-Songwriters" and that is sad because there is plenty of great TRUE folk music out there that should be heard. I got nothing against originals, but I think something that calls itself a "Folk Festival" ought to be at least 50 % Trad music.

ew.
Josh Woodward Back · 21 years ago
Double ew.

I'd rather fix that problem by renaming the festival. :)
nate... Back · 21 years ago
amen, brotha.
A girl named Becca Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
And I'm sure your a cappella group has done two of their songs infinitely better than they do themselves.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 21 years ago
The Kennedys aren't playing this year. Don't go dissing the Kennedys, they rock the Casbah.
nate... Back · 21 years ago
w00t!
100% dainty! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
damn straight!!
Misch Back · 21 years ago
Or it's the dinnertime set. From what I remember from years past they've tossed some... well... interesting acts into the slot right around dinner time.
nate... Back · 21 years ago
ahhh.. that could be it.

Would make a lot more sense.
John J. Ryan Back · 21 years ago
Well, FFF did say they are fairly sure they'll be getting the slot right after dinner. The Tracy Grammer slot from last year and the Gandalf Murphy slot from two years ago. Or perhaps even worse, the Jian slot three years ago? (Opposite the big tribute workshop at the workshop stage)
Shelly Back · 21 years ago
heh. like jian in 2001? teehee
Brian Dinsky Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
woooo, russell wolff cd release party! i'm totally gunna make an appearance at the dome this year, for that at the very least.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
is that still happening? cos we've got the kennedys and wa9 scheduled, but i haven't heard anything more about russell since john made this post back in february.
nate... Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
I'm assuming it is....

I mean, I'd hope that russell would at least be playing a set!

John J. Ryan Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
I would guess Russell NEEDS to contact us about this. He probably doesn't know about the Kennedys and WA9.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
someone should contact russell, then. seeing him is always one of my favorite parts of the festival and hanging out at the budgiedome.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
I just emailed him. I suggested he go on right after WA9
A girl named Becca · 20 years, 8 months ago
Geez. No WA9. No Christopher Williams. No Dar Williams. No Chris & Meredith Thompson.

It's like they're trying to get me not to come.
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
hrm.

We'll have WA9 at the budgiedome with  yes i said yes i will yes opening. Instead of Chris Williams we'll get lots of Ellis Paul (which was to be expected since Chris filled in for Ellis last year).

And I miss Dar and CM Thomson, too.
goovie is married! Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
i'm still bouncing around like a loon about this.

i should, like, learn my songs or something. :D
nate... Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Chris Williams is a FAR better choice, though....at least, in my not so humble opinion. :)

Phoenix Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
nope. Not at all. ;-P
nate... Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well, to each his own... I'm just not at all a fan of ellis.
:)
Phoenix Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well, to each his own

Totally. I do like Chris (saw him open for Arlo Guthrie last year) but I'd always prefer Ellis Paul :)
Andrea Krause Back · 20 years, 8 months ago
Well partially it's probably that ban they instituted on People with Chris and/or Williams in their name. Nothin' but trouble, them.I can't explain the rest though. :)
