Discussion: Is DVN pulling a Moxy Fruvous?
J. Andrew World · 21 years, 3 months ago

I just got the December update from Davinci's Notebook, and they seem to be going on some tipe of permanate Hiatus or something!

Paul wrote in the last e-mail: "As some of you may already know, DVN will be drastically reducing our performing schedule in early/mid-2004. While we greatly enjoy performing for our fans across the country, we are in different places in our lives than when we started over 10 years ago; and life as full-time touring musicians, while enormously fulfilling, has become increasingly difficult to maintain. We refuse to say "breaking up," because a) it implies that we will never perform together again, which is untrue; and b) "breaking up" holds connotations that we no longer enjoy the group or each other, which is also untrue. But although we will be working pretty steadily for the first several months of 2004, after that time we will more or less cease touring and regular performances. We'll certainly turn up from time to time, both as DVN and in other iterations (see the schedule below for a couple examples); and don't be surprised to see us pop up after a while to soak up everyone's love and cash in a "First Annual Reunion Farewell Tour" or something mercenary like that.

"In the meantime, we look forward to the next several months of shows, not as a sad time of ending and "winding down," but rather as a celebration of what we have accomplished over the past decade, and of the joy our audiences give us every time we step on stage. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to all of our fans throughout the years; to skirt the shores of cliche, we really do have the best fans in the world."

Does that mean that Storm will host the next American Idol? Paul becomes a Recluse? Bernie will tour American Schools? And will Richard join the Matchbox 20?

The DVNt Cruisers heard about it at the Q & A session, and we were asked to allow DVN to make the announcement themselves. This mailing list letter is making the rounds, and was posted on the DVN Yahoo Group before they posted it themselves.

They are specifically not pulling a Moxy Fruvous. They are still together, and intend to perform together and in other configurations in the future.

it really sounds like they're being much more open about the whole thing than Fruvous have been. I think it's unfair to say they're "pulling a Moxy Fruvous" or anything of the sort. (I actually also think it's unfair to say that Moxy Fruvous have been intentionally hiding anything from the fans or have done anything unfair to us)

DVN seem to have outlined some actual details of what their plans over the next couple of years are, and I think that's really giving us more information than they necessarily "have to," which is great, and is a wonderful reflection of their relationship with their fans.

How about an "other" option?

I emailed DVN before you posted this and I started it. "Fine pull a Fruvous." To "pull a Fruvous" will become a synonym for going on hiatus.

I kinda figured that seeing as how the verious members of the Supers have been on *SO* many albums, they counted as "Other" And notice no pete best either! What was I thinking?

But although the boys in The Supers have been on tons of other cds, they consistantly make music and release cds as a band. They will *not* be going on hiatus thank you. If they did, I have to kick Maury's ass. :)

They don't get out to the left coast much (as so many bands don't) and I JUST SAW THEM for the first time and planned on taking many people back next time and otherwise assimilating them into my musical life. And now this. They ARE pulling a fruvous. Which is to say that through no fault of their own they are breaking my heart. I guess it's good that they didn't let me get as attached as I am to Moxy but still...bad news for my morning!

Okay, so they'll tour in 2004, and then pretty much stop touring except maybe appearing every once in a while sporadically.

But does that mean they'll stop recording too?

goovie is married! Back · 21 years, 3 months ago
well, considering they've only written, like, one new song since brontosaurus...
Shelly · 21 years, 3 months ago
so...like, does this mean rich -won't- be making the 'four years is -not- a hiatus' buttons for FRFF? *g*
Rachel Marie aka RAI · 21 years, 3 months ago
For me, DVN was a substitue Frvous. Now this means that Frvous can start touring again and fill in that hole!

::sighs::

...Again, I hope too much.

P.S. N'Sync is ALREADY on a hiatus, aren't they?
100% dainty! · 21 years, 3 months ago

Hey. . .some bands have super super long hiatuses. . .you never know.

This to me seems like neither a hiatus nor a breakup. Cause it's not like they'll ever resume the kind of touring they have now, but the aren't ceasing to be entirely either. I'm so confused. Why must bands break my heart? Hey, Trout Fishing have kids, and they've been touring for twenty years!
