What's everybody's favorite song thats been covered? I have to say mine is Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen.. to tell you the truth.. i like jeff's version BETTER^.^ Rufus Wainwrights version of it is pretty good.. but nobody,in my book at least, can even hold a candle close to Jeff Buckley with an acoustic guitar^.^
Tori was once quoted as saying, "If you're going to do a cover, it has to be a complete challenge." As a member of the Nirvana's exact demographic, I can't say that I liked Tori's better (although I did enjoy it quite a bit). I do enjoy her versions of "Angie" (Rolling Stones) and "Thank You" (Led Zeppelin) from the same EP... better than the originals, in fact. I'll have to put some more thought into this one. Great forum topic. Bruce

Since I haven't had time to really think about this thread, I'll chime in with this fabulous cover band. Me First & The Gimme Gimmes perform mind blowing ska-punk covers of pop favorites. Their most recent album, Take A Break, features the Gimmes re-styling R&B classics. Featured tracks include: Hello, Save The Best For Last, End Of The Road, Natural Woman, and several others. More to come, Bruce
I'm with you on that-- first thing I thought when I saw the forum heading.
I also like the Fugees' version of "Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack, but that's because I have kind of a Lauryn Hill thing.

Save Ferris's version of "Come on Eileen" is one of my favorite covers...probably not the best...but definitely damn good.
That Buckley tune is *evil* ever since the Tribute show from Hell that Drea and I attended...
I love The Supers versions of both "Take On Me" and....the Beach Boys tune off of Pop Mountain whose title currently completely elludes me. I'm betting either Drea or Kath jump in on theat. :) Also like Blackie and the Rodeo Kings covering anything by Willie P. Bennett.
The Frvous cover is very good, but I like the original better. I think David Byrne's vocal stylings are just more suited to the song than Jian's. Jian sang it in more of a traditionally "good" style.
I'm not sure what my favorite cover song is, but offhand I can think of April March's version of the Pixies' "Alec Eiffel" and most covers by Camper Van Beethoven as really cool.
See, I've seen it one too many times live to really appreciate it. Jian's intro bit just started to get dull to me. It is a good cover, I just don't care for it a whole lot.
Although, I think it's a good sign for the band that the only live song I get tired of is a cover.
word. it's a great song, but i'm not really big on the whole talking heads style. go fruvous, etc. :)

I've always liked the Ramones version of "Needles and Pins"
And the Cake version of "I will survive..." And Nirvana's version of "The man who sold the world" is good too. And Failure's cover of "Enjoy the Silence" on "For the masses" is almost better than the original.

There are two covers of entire albums that I love.
Luther Wright and the Wrongs' Rebulding the Wall a cover of Pink Floyd's The Wall and Mary Lee's Corvette's cover of Dylan's Blood on the Tracks
100% dainty!

Word to the Hallelujah cover by Jeff Buckley. I really love that! I also like Fiona Apple's "Across the Universe," and Cornershop's "Norwegian Wood," in hindi! i really like beatles covers. sarah mclachlan's "blackbird" too. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes rock! i LOVE punk covers of non-punk songs!! as far as fruvous covers go, i like "i've gotta get a message to you" from live noise, and "dancing queen." i actually made a mix cd of all their covers (including ones that really aren't them, like "and so it goes" and "breakfast at tiffany's") it's called Under the Covers. wooo.
That's the one - I can never remember the name of the damn thing for some reason even though I adore the song.
You don't have Pop Mountain?!? You must first create an account to post.
