Ohiocon - Columbus Day weekend?

Well, I'm up for a long drive out there. Is anyone else up for a get-together in Ohio? Josh, planning on an open mic that weekend? Anyone know of any good shows that weekend? Details, Lacy and I want to see if such a thing would be possible.
if you'll reread john's post, you'll see that they don't *know* what's going on in ohio that weekend...i think the thought behind this is that it would be nice to hold a fruhead get-together in the fall, and that ohio (as "fruhead central," home of fhdc's esteemed and sweet-assed webmaster, and a generally good spot in the middle of the u.s.) might be a good place to do it.
how will silenced speech change the fact that ohio is bloody far from seattle? (: i'd love to go but it's ... well ... far. october sucks anyway koz i think the quartet has a gig almost every weekend of the month... -= george =-
would fruhead CENTRAL mean that the center of operations is Josh and he's in Ohio?
Or should we bring Jason into this and say NYC and Ohio? It had nothing to do with the state being in the center. (and it doesn't matter what Goovie had at the end of the post. Everyone knew what she was trying to say. It's so lovely how people WANT to go out of their way to tell people "OH YOU ARE SOOO WRONG!") Thanks Jaci for bringing that up. I guess people don't get a "joke." "sweet" and "ass" are two words that, combined, have always sounded weird in a sentence ... but that could just be me. (: -= george =-
Norg's 455 is every bit as 5\/\/337 as Josh's, thankyouverymuch.
most of it was a joke. the sweet ass bit is deadly serious though *nod*
:) Well someone didn't think it was a joke because I got a long frumessage about it. Unless my mozilla is making it BOLD and LONG. *shakes head* I guess they just couldn't say "gee you are so wrong!" on this board. They had to go out of their way to use a frumessage. umm. what the hell? let's all jump on bill now? i didn't get the joke either until jaci posted the link, which jaci posted after bill made his comment, which was geographically accurate to a relatively substantial number of fruheads living out on the west. back off. there's no need for everyone to be snarky. -= george =-
The Population center of the US is in Missouri a couple of states from Ohio. The Fruhead population is skewed east and north of the US's so Ohio is probably damn near the middle. So I guess the country she lives in is the US.
BTW, yeah, I'll either do an open mic or try to line up a full show in Toledo or something. The only concert on my calendar for that weekend is Keller Williams in Toledo on Saturday, who is great, but probably not of much interest to y'all :)
I know I'd love a full show in Toledo for Sunday night. It's better than Dustin Diamond. :) In addtion to anything else we collectively find that would be good reason for people to flock here to do my bidd--er, come to Ohio to hang out with each other and we Ohioans, Talcott and I had been talking about trying to get the Ohio Crew together to do Cedar Point while they're open for "Halloweekends" -- if any coming in for an "Ohiocon" would be up for it, that'd be a fun option for an evening.

we could do that, maybe...depending on costs and transportation and stuff...it would be fun to see people before frucon.

That weekend should work for Sara and I - that sounds like fun! Most of us are around NW Ohio and the Detroit area, so Toledo or BG would probably be the most convenient location as long as someone can get T-cott up here, and it's right off of I80/90.
The only problem being that Oct 13th also happens to be Thanksgiving in Canada....
Now I know why we never did Frucon during Columbus Day weekend. Is Thanksgiving in Canada always on Oct. 13th, or is it the same day as Columbus Day here?
Probably won't work for me then. I'm supposed to be in a wedding in California. I could do any of the following weekends though. Holloween might have posibilities. But is sounds like the rest of you are good for columbus day (which isn't really much of a holiday here in the midwest) :)
Yes!! It's going to be *insane* amounts of fun. And you can never tell who is going to show up that night. ;)

Gary Kasparov can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.
Believe it or this isn't totally off topic.

FYI... Cheryl Wheeler is in Cleveland (somewhat northeast, it seems, of Fruhead Central) on Friday, Oct. 10. If y'all are going to make a weekend out of it. and then, there might even be a donnagirl sighting.
I saw that Cheryl Wheeler willbe at the Ark that weekend. However, I saw DVN and Cheryl Wheeler at the Bottom Line, and I really didn't like Cheryl. Sorry folks.

well. i think having people come to ohio is a grand idea. of course, i'm back home here for the foreseeable future (at least through the holidays), so it's easy for me to say that. and bowling green is just a hop, skip and jump up the highway from the lovely suburbs of dayton. so. someone plan something and let me (and mom and pops)know. :D

As of today, I have no plans for the weekend. I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday (10-10) than with a close-to-home gathering of Fruheads. I should probably run this past Teri... maybe I have some plans that I don't know about yet.
Sounds like fun, but with everyone else in attendance, I'd probably get lynched if I tried to take you back to Maine. Sorry. Stuck in Ohio. How's that for luck?
I may officially be out of this trip. I just found out that Robbie Fulks is playing in Bloomington on the 10th. I mean... I love you guys, but this is Robbie. Keep me posted with details. If it turns up on another weekend, or the Sat-Sun portion of the weekend, I might still be in. If the car is running, I'll even offer rides.

Er... right, then. Those interested in trekking to the wilds of NWish Ohio -- would people rather get rooms at a hotel in one of the relevant cities, or should those of us in the area start discussing among ourselves who can offer how much crash space? (Or should we just decide who's offering -- I'm sure there are others (like in my case) who actually can offer a good bit of room if a few people don't mind sleeping on floors, or such.) Of course, that would be a bit simpler to plot out with a slightly better idea of (among those who think they could make it if there were actual plans put together) who'd be coming from how far, and staying for how much of the weekend. I know everyone doesn't get Columbus Day itself off. Heck, I myself don't -- in the unlikely event that I haven't had my seasonal layoff by then. Anyway, I thought I'd bring that up. I'll, ah, go back to hiding in the corner now.

Even though I came up with the idea, I just had to pour hundreds of $$$ into my car, so I don't think I will be able to make it out there. I want to try to save up so I can comfortably afford Frucon. Sorry folks, I really wanted to do it too. :(

ok, though i was SOOOOOO intrigued by this idea and -so- wanting to go{i could see kat....mom...dad.....laaaaaaaaac...talcott...shers..josh and sarah..maybe even smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttssss...}....but here's my problem{the same that exists with frucon:
most companies don't{or at least -mine- doesn't!} recognize columbus day and president's day as holidays that the offices are closed for, so it's tough for me coz the obviously lower-cost way to go would be to drive, but i'd, like JUST get there and then i'd hafta turn around. and all-a my vaca-personal days are always used up for the cruise and FRFF. {i mean, really, people....10 total days?? come ON!!!} so...yah..that's my dilly-o. which is why i have never made it back to seATTle...or out to oHEEEEEEEEo before now..or to lotsa other places....:'( but i am most sad. *le cry*

guess who's been saving money without knowing it? ME! seems like not balencing my checkbook has finaly come to some good for once. I thought I had way less in there then I did so I've been spending sparingly and I have direct deposit so my checks have been going in religously... I called and checked my ballence... 1,000!! *gasp choke faint* I'm already looking at frucon as a definate! whoohoo! and talcott won't have to pay for me! yay!
Does it still count as hiding if only five people see you... or do you have to be completely unseen? If the former, then I successfully hid at Frucon 5. Or was I even there? :-)
I'm not sure.
It is a lot harder to "hide" at the recent cons, which is a good thing. At III and IV, I didn't meet many new people. That didn't phase me much then, but realizing how many people I really want to meet that were there is disapointing. At V, I met a lot more people, and everyone hung out together last year. It's looking like this year will be a good size. A lot of people, but not a huge crowd either.

So are we doing this or what? :)
I'll be around this weekend. We ought to do something, small or not. Assuming I can shake this cold in time, I'll play open mic at Coffee Amici in Findlay this Friday night. It's about a half hour south of Bowling Green. They open at 7, and OMN runs from 8-10. Afterwards, the FruTradition is to head down the street for Guinness and craic. We also need to get buttery sticks of love at Pollyeyes at some point, maybe Saturday night? I'm not sure where the official "hanging out" would go down, but BGSU is in session, so there's tons of options on campus. If nothing else, we could bum it out in the Union. It looks like it could be a beautiful fall weekend with temps around 70 and limited rain, so outdoors might be perfect. So who's with me?
I wish I could, but a lot of car repairs have left me financially strapped. in fact, now I may not be able to make it to Frucon if my chorus ends up qualifying for int'l, since I don't have enough vacation days to go around. :( I know I really suck for this, but I have to realize that I can't do everything I want to do.
Well, I should be at Amici, but that's nothing new. Talcott and I were going to possibly go down to the Ohio RenFaire this weekend -- if you (or anyone else around) is interested, that's something. Oh, and did you (and any other locals) hear/realize this is the last year for Haunted Hydro? Rumor is that "Crazy Bob" already has job offers from some other places here around NW Ohio, but fall won't be the same without Hydro. (Now I feel bad I haven't gotten over there the last couple of years.) I firmly intend to get to the Hydro this year because of that. Uhm, yeah.
wow! I never got to go there. Maybe him and Steve will team up and make haunted turtles! :-D (sorry, NW-Ohio in joke)
I could maybe make it up there on the bus (or back) but I'd need help getting the other way around. The faire is still good though, since I'm nearly on the way anyways. Hey Josh, wanna just busk in cols or cinci? ;-) OH! If the faire did happen, I saw a flyer around here about Gigantic playing at the Cinci art museum. Might be something else to look into.
