7 hours. Bowling Green to Rochester. It was during college. Now I cringe at two hours :)
I don't think so, I think it was Sara and I. If memory serves, it was the show where Jian noticed me in the audience after Johnny Saucep'n and yelled "Josh Woodward!". Damn, that was a long day..
Yup, it was me and you. I don't remember why in the world we didn't stay somewhere. ugh. fun show though! :)
I suppose that'd be it. It didn't seem all that far at the time... how things change. i did roughly the same thing last summer, driving to Wisconsin after work, staying there for an hour, and turning around and coming back to Ohio in time for work the next morning, but there were circumstances around that that made it vital that I go. it wasn't for a show. I made it through the next day by pure will and lots of coffee.
we did stay overnight some of the time. the frucons, Hillsdale '99 (frff) where we all camped. and for some reason Chicago once, and then the whole DC trip. I guess we tend to stay over for a run of shows, but for the most part, drive, see the show, come home to our kitties. our radius for potential shows just isn't what it used to be. not necessarily a bad thing, just different.

NYC to Poughkeepsie for the 30th Anniversary Town Crier show this past January or Ithaca, NY to Scranton, PA for Tori Amos in 1996 - somewhere along the lines of 2-3 hours each. Oh wait! I forgot about FRFF 1999 for the Saturday. My friends and I left NYC at about 6AM, got to Hillsdale after getting lost at about 10:30 or so and didn't leave until Ani finished her set at about 12:30-1:00AM. We then, didn't return to NYC until about 6AM Sunday...so we were up for 24 hours straight. I don't think I'd have the stamina to do that again. eep...right now, the bell curve makes a return appearance! :)

a little over 3 hours from NYC to Ocean City NJ for Fruvous in the summer of '99. 130 miles of summertime G.S. parkway traffic, gack!

I think mine must be the Middlebury, VT -> Russell's firstshow after almost dying (near Boston) -> Noho trip. I wasn't sure which part to count. It's a lot longer from Middlebury to Boston than from Boston to Noho...
Yeah, especially for me, as I didn't have to do any driving and got to sleep in the car, instead. :)

I went from New York to Allentown via Baltimore. I picked up some cute redheaded chick there.

So now the question is, would you do it again? If Fruvous started touring again, right this second, just like they used to, would you follow them the same way you used to?
At this stage in my life? Probably not. I feel like I've settled down and I just don't have the energy anymore. I'd do it for special things, like Frucon. But the week to week tripping? Probably not.
It's also different when not in a relationship with another Fruhead. Most of my frutripping was done with The Beasinator.
oO Beasinating the countryside, Beasinating the peasants! Oo
it was much easier to do that kind of stuff while i was in college, or while i was on the east coast. that being said, i think if fruvous started touring again, neal and i would have to fly out east and go to a few shows, at least in new york, philly, and baltimore/dc, to see friends as much as to see the lads. we miss you guys. :)
If you did that i hope you would stay the night. I'd cry if you didn't.
yes! i'm a great songwriter!
aww. poor amy speace.
I'd like to be able to say yes, it's my first impulse.. but when I did my travelling and tripping before, I was working full time and living at home. Now I'm living on my own, working only part time, and saving up to go to college. So I'm afraid there's no money, and very little time.
Nope. Fruvous and getting to be with all the fruheads often was a lot of fun, but I was in college and had the time and inclination to drive all over the place. having a full-time job and kitties that miss me and come running when I come home gives me less time and less desire to be away from home for long periods of time.

quebec city to ottawa. by bus. for a blues show. was -supposed- to stay the night but ended up having to bus back a few hours after the show because of an obligation. that sucked. (: -= george =- was the music worth it? I remember driving from Fort McMurray to Edmonton (5 hours) to see Weird Al in the middle of January at -35. Our heater died on the way home, and we were soooo frozen! ~J~ darn tootin' it was worth it. not only was it good music and an entertaining show, but i got to hang out with cal, mary, kath, and mc. (: -= george =-

i *think* it was the 4 to 4.5hrs to cleveland and back to see fruvous in summer '00. every trip farther i always spent the night someplace. would i trip the way i used to if they start touring again? probably not, because i'll be gainfully employed (i hope) and therefore tied to more of a regular schedule than i had during college. however, i also hope to be living somewhere concert-friendly, so ideally i'll make up for it by seeing lots of different bands whenever i can. :D

well., though my over-5-hours trips are now -primarily- EFO-involved.....
-technically- the allentown trip for me was over that..with no sleeping over per se.....home-to-lori's-to-allentown-to baltimore{getting, of course, lost...which was gordon's fault.....}-NOT-sleeping---staying-up-all-night-in-the-land-computer-room-and-driving-back-to-philly-to-work-at-9-am. so...yah...that was from the old skool days of fr..... oh...and the 'is-this-trip-EVER-gonna-end???!!! nyc-to-noho for EFO' last year the weekend we moved ellen voyage meliss, nita and i took...THAT one, too, was legendary!!!! and others for EFO stuffs have been longer, but it doesn't count when you're riding in harvey/with the band or crashing with bandos i no think.
not only did gordon get us lost, he got us pulled over. bastard.

From the posts I've read today, I'm finding a thread, that people can't tour the way they used to. And it seems like the #1 reason for it seems to be real life intruding in. People have more responsibilities as they get older, people have mentioned full-time job, cats, no more college, etc. It really seems like in the 2 1/2 years that Fruvous has been on hiatus, a lot of us have, for the lack of a better term, grown up. Some more than others I'm sure, but life has certainly changed for a lot of us. Just an observation. But the good news is that although a lot of us have changed because we've grown up, there's a new generation waiting to discover Fruvousif they start playing again. College-age kids without much responsibility who can do those massively long drives on no sleep because they don't have class until 3 PM the next day. And that new generation of fans will also come here to FHDC, and subsequently, become our new friends.
