What's your favorite kind of pet?
uhmmm... no they aren't. How many seeing eye cats have you seen? Or cadaver cats, or drug sniffing cats?
On the other hand... butt licking cats, I've seen a bunch of those... cats that don't come when you call them, yeah, seen lots of them too. :) -Mark Lost in America

That's the problem with dogs. They're wimps. They'll do whatever you tell them to. Cats could do all of these things if they chose to, but they're too dignified to stoop to obeying directions from humans.
Cats get low marks in "works and plays well with others."
I thought that was Chinese: http://www.stone-dead.asn.au/albums-cds/lyrics/i-like-chinese.html

I love dogs... great companions... smart... loyal.
I also love kitties.... cuddly... amusing to watch.... And fish, while I've only had them a little while, are fun too. :) Birds can be fun... but I wouldn't want one myself... ditto for reptiles. The only pets I DON'T like are, like, those rat-dogs.... or rodents...

I'm a cat person at heart, but I think Buttercup would be quite angry I didn't vote for small animals and she found out. Of course, rats are far more catlike than you'd expect.
Zacques: My cats are the most intelligent cats in the world. Mark: no they aren't. To prove it, I'll compare them to dogs. Um....huh?
I prefer dogs, but have no problems with cats. Dogs are just cool because they are intelligent, and as you said, very loyal. Plus, they are great at adding a level of security. Very alert (most at least) and some have very nice threatening barks.
I like cats too, but they can be a little too aloof. My fiance's cat (who we will be getting when her mom moves as the cat is an outdoor cat) is prissy and only wants to be scratched when SHE wants it. Now, my dog on the other hand (minature dachsund) is always up for a good belly rub. :)
I plan to have LOTS of rat dogs. the ratier the better, but not until I'm old and frail. you see my plan is to be a crazy old lady, more crazy than I am now and I would want to be the crazy old lady with tons of cats, buuuut I'm pretty much deathly allergic. sooooo I'm gonna have TONs of rat dogs that I'm gonna tell the neiborhood kids (who will undoubtably be scared of me) that they are infact cats (not dogs) and they look that way because I put a horrible spell on them for waking me up from my nap one day. werd. :-)

I love dogs! They're so friendly and happy, and wonderful. I would love to have a dog someday. One from the pound, not from the pet store, because pet stores are evil. Let Petco, oops sorry I'm in Peta, I meant "Petno: Where the pets die" Don't buy from Petco, they're horrible.

I like cats, though I'm pretty allergic. Dogs are nice too, but not black labs 'cause they're criminally insane.
Hoping to get rats sometime, theyre supposed to be good.
but not black labs 'cause they're criminally insane.
They're moreso just dumb as posts. Labs are probably the dumbest dogs out there... even golden's aren't as dumb. :D Personally, I'm a big fan of german shepards... very smart and fiercely loyal... but oh so sweet. :) The only problem with them is the whole hip thing. :(
Just 'cause you'd never know I'm a dog person from the icon. :) Dogs are the best - you can have whole conversations with them and they always look fascinated by what you're saying. *g*
Okay, normally I'm not one to support PETA or the SPCA (PETA being the better of the two in my opinion), but DAMN, after reading that site, I have to say that PETA is dead on right this time. There's no excuse for euthanizing an animal by placing it in a freezer or airtight bag to die. Hell, a bullet to the chest would be more humane! In today's era of modern drugs, a simple injection would put them down humanely and cheaply.
On pet finder.com, we just saw a adorable dacshund, but it said it had some problems socializing due to "being abused by former owners, including having a two inch scar on his back." What kind of sicko would beat a dacshund? Maybe I'm biased, but they are probably the most loving of dog breeds out there. Ugh. Some people are just sick.

cats are cute and cuddly and they don't assault you when you open the door. they also aren't dumb as rocks, and are much lower maintenance.
and I think the concept of "seeing eye dogs" (and other service dogs in general) is more one of practicality than the notion that cats aren't smart enough to do it. what's a cat going to o when you're about to step into traffic, meow? a large dog can bark and use its strength to force its owner back onto the sidewalk. cats are smarter than dogs. they won't take shit from anyone. dogs will let you walk all over them.
Umm... no, it's that dogs can be trained to follow commands.
Cats can't... (usually).
Also, since when does lack of ability (or desire) to follow instruction constitute intelligence? Don't get me wrong... I love cats.... but, I don't think they are smarter than dogs by default. Hey! butt licking ain't such a bad thing. I can't tell you how much more relaxed I feel at the end of a hard days work knowing that - after licking there own asses - their is no way on earth they will find *ME* offensive! Besides, at least they pretty much keep their ass-licking to themselves... most of the dogs I've known want nothing better then to plant their noses as firmly and quickly as possible in the rectum of every new dog they meet! ... And I have never had a cat spontaneously hump my leg as savagely and single-mindedly as if it was the last female feline on the planet! 8^P
.... like a cute little pot bellied pig? or what yo? city boy! you need to getup on your shizit fore you spizeak! we had many pigs what were like 6 feet long and weighed a freaking LOT! I still don't like the idea of butter cup being BUTTERCUP... she needs to stay small.
I dunno about in general, but my dog is damn smart. We sent him to his kennel cuz he was bad one night, and he snuck out. I heard what sounded like his dog tags clinking once and was like "huh, wonder if he got out", so at the next commercial break, I got up and walked over to the hallway, and there was my dog, walking very slowly so as to not make his tags clink.
Dumb dog my butt. While it's true there are some dogs which are dumb as rocks (basset hounds for example), there are also alot of dogs which are very intelligent.

send them all marching in , two by two. i am the animal girl!! i've had rodents, birds, dogs, cats, lizards, fish.......i still have most of them.
Assault you? Come on, being greeted at the door is one of my favorite things about having a dog. This is my dog. http://members.aol.com/bethje/folder/dewey02.jpg Does he really look that menacing? I have a cat, too, and I love my cat, but I'm just a dog person, when it really comes down to it. And for what it's worth, my dog never follows commands, but my cat (and my cat who died last year) would come when I called them and even come when I gestured to them. And making such generalizations about dogs is like being racist. ;) We also have a parakeet, whom I always forget about, and I have a hamster. I've also had mice and rats. Rodents are cool, but I prefer more lovey pets.

what about guinea pigs? am i the only guinea pig person around here? :P they're cute and cuddly and don't bite. they won't jump spontaneously out of your hands from a height like hamsters or gerbils do. they're easily house-trained. they're better than rabbits, because THEY TALK! whoo! you can sit them on your lap and they'll purr away like a cat. when they're hungry they squeal at you. and when they trot about the house or the garden they chatter away in their funny little happy language, heeheeheehee. they're sooooo adorable! and so affectionate! okay, rant over now. :)
