What is your favorite They Might Be Giants album?
Aplollo 18 is their best album it was one part early synth and guitar TMBG and one part horn section TMBG with the right mix of music! Plus it had some of their best songs: "Spider", "The Guitar", "Narrow your Eyes", and the song that inspired "Uncle Buford's Mega-Mix", "Fingertips"!

put me down for: "i currently possess none of their albums." good stuff, but i don't spend all that much money on CDs it seems... -= george =- i'm with george..i own none of their stuff and have only heard an mp3 that carey had of lawrence singing 'dinner bell', the 'puppet head' song from a mixtape she made me, whatever song they did on conan the last time they were on, the 'older' song from a ^kat^show, and -some- of mink car {with the song that mimics 'when she talks' *g*} when on a dvn excursion wiht carey and lawrence. i guess i just can't really get into them. like i am not so enamoured of them that i feel the need to own any of their stuff. but...like....isn't mink car -supposed- to be the best TMBG album EVER???!!! ~she said for effect and then *shellycackles*~ but now i'm earwormed with 'mink car' which. is eeeeeeeeeeevooooooool
YOU SHOULD BUY MINK CAR IT IS THE GREATEST ALBUM EVER RECORDED IN THE HISTORY OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE.

huh. i've been thinking about these guys a lot lately, so it's pretty timely of a poll. back in the heyday of my fandom i claimed apollo 18 as my fave; i popped it in my car stereo for the first time in ages last week and realized again how much i adore it. every. single. song. golden, and equally catchy (yet richer musically) than anything on flood, the 'popular' choice. of course, john henry's in my car now, and it's pretty fehkin' grand itself. but more uneven. anyway. these guys were IT for me for awhile (5 yrs?) in my early teens--first commercial recording purchase, first concert, first online-purchase-of-memorabilia-to-feed-my-obsession (where hast thou gone, alt.music.tmbg?)... until, of course, the niche was filled with *cough* another band. still. special place in my heart for the johns. represent, man. word. [not that the poll begged this much of an answer; i've just been all introspective/retrospective lately and felt you deserved to benefit from it. :D]

John Henry all the way. Although my favorite song is still She's and Angel. It suprises me that John Henry isn't winning right now. It seems like it's at the top of my of the TMBG fans' I know lists. Then again, it's 2am, and the poll is fairly new.
I agree! JH is my fav. esp for "She's an Angel"...this one seems to have the most variety. Amusingly enough, I hated it the first time i heard it back in 7th grade (i'm a junior in college now!) and it took me until mid high school before I bought it and fell madly in love.

Before the 1999/2000 Fruvous NYE show in Buffalo I was staying at my friend's house a few blocks from the Tralf. She wanted to turn me on to TMBG and we went on FHDC to ask what would be the best intro album for me. The consensus was Apollo 18 and that is still my favorite. When I went back to the archives to see who I talked to then I found that it was the first time that I ever spoke to Carey. It's a small world.

At the risk of being laughed at, my favorite album is Factory Showroom and my least favorite is Apollo 18. C'mon, SEXXY is a funk-fest. Till My Head is upbeat TMBG at their best. Your Own Worst Enemy, Spiralling Shape, and The Bells are all beautiful tunes. JKPolk, Exquisite Dead Guy, and I Can Hear You fill out the quirky side nicely. The only real dud on the album is HCISLAG.
Apollo 18 makes me feel... clastrophobic or something. There's too much going on. As islands, some of the songs are great, but together it's like cooking a meal by using every single thing in the kitchen.
I do love Factory Showroom a lot. It just got into my blood really quickly. :)
I just can't forsake Lincoln. I think it's all about what mood I'm in. If I want to be silly and bop around it's Lincoln time. If I want to rock out it's Factory Showroom.

This was sooooo hard! I went with Apollo 18, but John Henry was my second choice. Mink Car has really grown on me (I hated for a year, now I love it). It all depends on my mood, I think. I like No! too because I am using it to influence a future generation of TMBG fan. No! also helped get my mom to listen to TMBG. She really liked Bed Bed Bed Bed, and she remembers the original PSA In the Middle from when she was younger. Yes! TMBG bringing the generations together!

I am surprised that nobody voted for No. It would be my second choice, that or Flood. It's totally adorable and filled with TMBG cleverness.

Columbia House has Apollo 18 and Flood in stock. I also have a "buy one get two free" offer right now. ..
*does math* hmm... buy an album that costs about $15... add shipping... that's about $27... divide by 3... $9 an album for 3 albums. Not too bad of a deal if you want to bulk up on TMBG. But, then again, I already own those two albums. They do have "Dial-A-Song", the two disc compilation for $31.98 (I bet that could be had in stores for less) Ah well.
