Ask Jeeves?! Has anyone ever actually used that?!
like once or twice.... good for looking up medical questions.
~Karen How about asking Jeeves other thought-provoking questions... Jeeves, what is the nature of the universe? Jeeves, what is the meaning of life? Jeeves, why DID the chicken cross the road? Ask Dave's Head! The Fruvous Playground isn't up anymore, but it had a thing where you could type in any question, and Dave's Head would answer with a Fruvous lyric. I copied a bunch of the questions when I got the limericks and poetry off the site for Frucon. Some are really funny.
What happened to the fruvous playground?
I didn't know it wasn't up anymore. :(
In order:
What is the nature of the universe? The Nature of the Universe Great Debate in 1998 From: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/debate/debate98.html
Oh, sure, I've asked Jeeves lots of stuff. Not when I actually needed to know the answer, but it's kinda fun to see what you come up with.... :)

Since I had it installed in my browser I hardly use anything else. I used to use Dogpile a lot. It's a metasearch engine. The problem is it gives the same hits over and over again.
Yeah, I still use Dogpile every once in a while, especially if I'm looking for something really obscure. But only "google" sounds convincing as a verb, and I know that's what I look for in a search engine.
There's a neat little feature you can do in Mozilla to assign a URL a keyword and pass it a strig to work with.
Make a bookmark like: http://www.google.com/search?query=%s Give it a short 'keyword', like "gg" THen, to do searches, all you have to do is type into the address bar: gg Paul Mischler And the browser does this search Cool thing is, most every search engine under the sun supports searches like that, so you can easily program different search engines in. like images.google.com: http://images.google.com/images?q=%s dictionary.com http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=%s Mozilla Bugzilla: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id= It's a pretty cool thing, and a big time saver, especially since you can hit CTRL-T (Open new tab) CTRL-L (go to address bar) then just type. yeah! the student's friend! I love using it to help me find research stuffs! ~J~

Google gets better responces like When I was looking up something about Russell Wolff I found "One day a social worker took John to meet an artist by the name of Russell Wolff who painted with his feet."

i hate to be disloyal to lycos, being as their logo is a dog and my dogs would be displeased if they knew...but yahoo just works so much better.

Yahoo, although if it fails me, I go to Lycos or AltaVista. Most sites won't let you search for really common things, but once I went on Lycos and searched for "www" in the URL and got like a billion and a half results. hehe
