Most annoying Christmas songs!

Okay, which song do you wish every radio station would just take out of their library and add it to a raging fire? My vote is for Feliz Navidad. Not because I don't like the song, but because you can't ESCAPE IT!
Feliz Navidad reminds me of Christmas 1980 when we sang that for my cousin who was stationed overseas in the army.
We put it on a tape for him - and he remembers our rendition fondly. *g* It's also featured in "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" when they are skating at the rink. Any of that Mariah Carey crap they can take out of their playlist. All I have to say when I hear Mariah is "Ho ho ho!"
I *love* that scene! And when Ernie sells Rubber Duckie to Mr. Hooper so he can buy a box for Bert's paper clip collection, and Bert sells his paper clip collection so he can buy a soapdish for Rubber Duckie...brings tears to my eyes!
Do you know we still use that little scene as a joke today? :D
"I found this cigar box for your paper clip collection." =) It's sad when you watch it today to know that David and Mr. Looper...er...Hooper have died. :(
.oO tra-laaa-laaa dominic the christmas donkey! Oo.
when i lived in the dorms at school one of the frat houses brought this huge ass stereo outside and played that song, the hawaiian christmas song in nat'l lamppons christmas vacation and feliz navidad ad infinitum for 2 weeks. needless to say, i here one of those three songs and i start rocking and twtiching. *shudder*
Great. Thanks for the earworm.
Other than that atrocity, my unfaves are: -Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer - Jingle Bell Rock - Feliz Navidad (never gets out of your head once you hear it) Christmas Songs I actually like: O Come O Come Emmanuel Benjamin Britten- Ceremony of Carols What Child Is This? Mary's Boy Child And I gotta confess I love "Last Christmas" *dances off singing "ding dong merrily on high" and tries in vain to keep visions of Terry Gilliam in a speedo from dancing in her head*
when eric schwartz was growing up, he used to torture his brother on family car trips by bursting into song with "feliz navidad." true story.
which version of "Jingle Bell Rock" do you hate? :)
I love the Hall and Oates version - that video rawks!
Oops! Forgot to add "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree" *shudders*

Brenda Lee version?
I happen to like the Brenda Lee version.
I also like the original Bobby Helms version of Jingle Bell Rock. Those classic guitar riffs are uber-recognizable.
Responding to Ellen...
"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" has to top the list for me, too. I cannot take that song. "Jingle Bell Rock", though, I have a bit of a fondness for. When I was in elementary school, we had this thing called sing-along where all the third, fourth, and fifth graders would be herded into the gym, given big books of lyrics and led in song. Most of the year, the songs were a weird mix of "Toot-toot-tootsie", "The Marines Hymn" and "Puff, the Magic Dragon", but at Christmastime we got new books. "Jingle Bell Rock" was always sung. I love those old sing-along songs. Favorite Christmas songs: Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming In the Bleak Midwinter O Come O Come Emmanuel (another one in common) and I love that you mentioned Britten's Ceremony of Carols... a long-time favorite of mine as well! Also Arthur Honegger's Une Cantate de Noel.
O Come O Come Emmanuel (another one in common)
I thought that was more of an "advent" song than a christmas song.

"this christmas" by wham! is EVERYWHERE, i swear, and i can't *stand* it. nor can i take elvis's "blue christmas." yechh. "feliz navidad" is annoyingly catchy, but i can deal. those other two, though... oh, and the "i want a hippopotamus for christmas" song sung in that whiny kid's voice? yeah. it would give me inordinate amounts of pleasure to eradicate these 'special' tunes from holiday radio playlists forever.
otherwise, though, i love holiday music. get signature sounds' _wonderland_ collection! so good! --k.
The funny thing is, that video is never played (and it is one of my favorite christmas videos) and that song just started to become popular now. You hardly heard it in the 80s when it was released. Are radio stations low on Christmas music? Some started playing it 24/7 the monday before thanksgiving...so I've heard it all and am sick of it all.
But, my two favorites are Bryan Adams "Reggae Christmas" b/w "Christmas Time." I have those on a Green Vinyl 45. :)

barbra streisand's version of "jingle bells."J-J-J-J-J-J-JIN-GLE-BELLS! J-J-J-J-J-J-JAN-GLE-BELLS!" aaaauuuugggh!
also any recording of "the little drummer boy" or "do you hear what i hear?" oh, and "my favorite things" -- it's NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG! *ahem*
"My Favorite Things" is in a Christmas Flute book I have.
I asked myself..."When did this become a christmas song????" I do like "We Need a Little Christmas" from Mame.
i love favorite things...granted its not a christmas song..but i sang it when my high school put on The sound of music...the Mother Superior sings it with maria in the stage version and well i made sure the Big Rev Momma...*what the younger kid called me* got her grove thang on!
but yah Hey Santa buy Wilson Phillps kills me..granted i sang it 6 times in chior. EVERY YEAR for 6 years people...if i never hear it again it will be too soon

but the barking dog Jingle Bells is way up on the list of toss on the fire tunes.
Oh - "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth" can go there too. My faves are "White Christmas" and "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow," since both were written by Jews.

In general, I hate most Christmas *songs* - I like most Christmas Carols. Except when people murder "O Holy Night".
And Mariah Carey and Christina whats-her-name should not be allowed to sing Christmas carols. Ever.

please. don't even get me started on *this* one. me and my dad both hate those evil bloody crimbo songs. you just can't turn on the radio without being bombarded with them. aaaarrrghhh! it's as if they think we haven't heard slade enough times every year since 197whatever :D
please. if i hear any more of these particular ones this year, i'm gonna scream and kill someone. or become a recluse. either. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade A Fairytale Of New York - The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney Another Rock And Roll Christmas - Gary Glitter Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Jackson 5 Mistletoe And Wine - Cliff Richard Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Mel & Kim Last Christmas - Wham Walking In The Air from that goddam awful movie and, the worst (kill me now): Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - John & Yoko I mean, okay, we love the Beatles and all that, but I really hate that song :D
oops. i forgot. we love all the oldies. bing crosby and doris day and all that. ;)
The Beatles did do "Christmas Time Is Here Again". You want to have nightmares? Download the complete 1967 version of the song off KaZaA. You won't sleep for weeks! :)

I must be a bad Jewish atheist, I love Christmas songs. What I do hate is hearing them too early, some stores were playing them a few weeks before Thanksgiving.
I don't mind listening to it any time of the year. Carey and I listened to a Roches Christmas show when in May when it was 90 degrees. I object to them forcefeeding it in stores and to all decorations before Thanksgiving and after Epiphany. Ephiphany is the twelth day right?
Wow I'm tough, I should start the Christmas Police. So what's the earliest we should allow Easter Bunnies? Halfway through Lent?
People give up chocolate for Lent? What kind of religious fanatics are they? I'd rather give up Lent for chocolate.

After a long day of hating customers at the mall, I come home and unwind to the Arrogant Worms' "Christmas Turkey" CD. The ultimate anti-Christmas Song album. "Santa Got Arrested", Things Are Looking Bad for Santa", "Dad Threw Up On Christmas Day", and my personal favourite "Christmas Sucks." Cheers me up every time ;-)
only lisa would submit a post with the word 'evles' in the title
*g* ~runs away-o~ i SO wanna listen to my worms Christmas stuff at work, but am SURE that my questionably legal CD player would be forever exiled fo sho!! though tonight after my supervisor left i lifted it up on my desk so ty could hear the 'eddie hartness little drummer boy' teehee
Now is DEFINITELY the time for Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass!
Excuse me, but *my* post doesn't have the word "evles" in it ;-)
(and yes, I know that's a short joke....*thwap*)
short jokes are better than long jokes though, which usually require more explaining. :) WELL, while I'm here...
My faves include: The Holly and the Ivy O Come All Ye Faithful but only when sung in Latin Mary's Boy Child The whole Muppets With John Denver album especially Little St. Nick, Christmas is Coming, and When the River Meets the Sea I really don't need to hear about gramma being run over, or about mommy kissing santa either, and sometimes that Porky Pig version of Blue Christmas is just too much.

I have to say, I find just about all Christmas songs irritating, although that has a lot to do with bombardment by a culture to which I do not feel I belong. That said, I think "Silent Night" is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard, and "O Holy Night" is beautiful too.
In my family, Chanukah was always about singing. My dad has these song books, and we try to go through 'em all (much to the chagrin of visitors, at times). And I have to say that the most annoying Chanukah song is "The Dreidel Song." Even the DVN version. Actually, that's particularly grating. I'm a baaad DNVt.
Irving Berlin, a nice Jewish boy, wrote the most popular Christmas song, White Christmas, and the most popular Easter Song, Easter Parade. How come he never wrote a Chanukkah song?
PS. I don't actually like Irving Berlin, White Christmas is nice but I really can't forgive him for God Bless America. He is pure Schmaltz.

Listening to the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons version of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" will establish beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no God! Oh the horror!
