Reviews:

Goob-O-Rama:

Jazzy, yes, but not so quiet.

She can really belt it out. Saw her opening for Dan Bern- she was good, with the potential to get much better. Keep your eye on her.

Jason Reiser:

I'm so used to being disappointed by commercial CD releases...

Ms. McKeown's "Distillation" is such a surprise. I first saw her at Falcon Ridge in 2000, and then as part of the 3 Song Circus tour with Ghomeshi and Stochansky. I really dug her music both times, but I rarely seem to buy commercial releases anymore because they're so consistently disappointing. I don't expect them to capture the energy and excitement of a live show, but they so rarely seem to even capture the artistic expression of the artist! Erin's "Distillation" is a rare treat. Truly a multi-dimensional CD for this complicated singer/songwriter. This CD has only been removed from my CD player to play recent Nields and EFO releases - both of which were, not surprisingly, disappointing by comparison. And the EFO CD is actually quite good. ;) But Erin's back in there singing to me as I write this. But enough from me - just go buy it!

elizabeth:

she's really cute live. i saw her a bunch of times this summer since i firt saw her at 3 song circus in ny, and i wasnt disappointed once... distillation is great disc and my favorite song on it is "didn't they?"

Gordondon son of Ethelred:

Looks like a kid but sings adult songs

When I first saw Erin on the same bill with the Kennedys and EFO I thought she was 15 years old. She isn't and she's great. A natural performer filled with personality. She writes sophisticated songs that you can still sing along to.

QUeen of Jazz, Rock, and Quite!

I first saw Erin McKeownas a part of 3 song circus and I was *BLOWN AWAY* First of all She has an increadable Jazzy voice followed by her amazing guitar playing! Then I bought her CD *OHMYGAWD* Iw as blown away! That CD did not leave my CD player for a month! I then saw her before Falcon Ridge and It was an incredable show, she blew me away again! Needless to say, this super talented Singer has some incredable songs and I can't wait to see what she does next!

beth-pseudocanuck!:

wasn't too thrilled with what i'd heard until i saw her live at FRFF2002. SO ADORABLE!! now i can totally appreciate her innocent youthful energy. fabulous jazz voice--she sounds like she's straight off of a 30s jazz album. i really hope to see her soon in her home area of boston! two words: OH ESTELLE!!

goovie is married!:

soft, quiet folk with a jazzy twist :)

Hey, that's actually appropriate here :) If you were at the FRFF New Artist Showcase, you probably saw Erin McKeown and ended up singing along to "La Petite Mort" ("OH, ESTELLE!"). Dave Chalfant of the Nields produced her most recent CD, and it really is often "folk with a jazzy twist." Check it out.

Nicole the Wonder Nerd:

An early 2002 Erin and Peter Mulvey double-bill was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, period. Inspired, I got Erin's CD _Distillation_, and while I can't say that I listen to it constantly, it *is* full of good, old-timey songs sung with a great old-fashioned jazz voice (think Billie Holliday).

Meghan Gramcracker:

Amazing - go see her!
