But the choices are limited to whatever the owner has decided that the customers want to hear (IE: classical or lame jazz muzak stations) Lately, I've had on the "adult alternative" station on in the morning (against owners wishes... :O ) which plays the occasional guster or bnl song

And, man, it's awesome. The no-music thing was something I *hated* about my last job..... I mean, I'm still answering phones much of the time now... but... as long as we're not BLASTING music, it's cool. :) And, when I'm working in the server room, pretty much anything goes.... I can just turn it down if the phone rings.

Plus we get to hear fine tunes such as Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" two or three times per day! :)

Oh man, yeah! I *love* that song!

:P

We don't even have hold music on the phones (which is really quite nice)

When I was a temp, it varied. At the best jobs, I was alone in a room or cube with a radio. NPR (with a music mix) all day! The worst though were the places which ran the "Great Hits of the 80s, 90s, and Today" The worst was having to explain that no, it wasn't my favorite mix of music ever, and no, it's not because it's all "love songs". It's becasue it's all Celine Dion and Jimmy Buffet, and they only play 10 songs a day, they just play them a lot.

So, um, yeah ;-)
Have music is good when it's good music, but I'd rather have none than a station that makes my brains melt.

I'm a student intern at MGM Grand.. My desk is in the same office as the Vice President of Public Relations. I'm working on an archive project.. so it's my work on my own time.. but since I'm not technically under the command of anyone in the office, I get to do as I please.. meaning I get to bring in my cd or tape player or listen to the radio or whatever. They play top 40 stuff on the radio in the office [MGM has it's own station,apparently]... huzzuh for being the intern!

I have a CD player at my desk in my own office. I can play music at a low level when I'm not meeting with clients or on the phone, but usually I'm too busy to remember to put in a CD and turn it on.

We generally have the radio on in the shop...but I don't get to, like, wear headphones and carry my iPod around, or anything. And usually the saws or the compressor drown out the radio anyway.

I don't have a job. But I'm allowed to listen to music in math class sometimes. 'Cause my teacher's cool like that. Of course, it's only a rare occasion when I bring my iPod on the same day.
Phoenix · 19 years, 4 months ago
Rarely because I have to ... work.
nate... Back · 19 years, 4 months ago
so do you have it on and just not listen? or... do you mean you don't have it on at all?
Phoenix Back · 19 years, 4 months ago
oops.

Seems I wasn't very clear: Not much at all. Just too many meetings and time when I have to monitor the phone or need 100% of my concentration...
Andrea Krause · 19 years, 4 months ago
I was kinda confused about the intent of the question. I can listen to music all I want or have time to at work...but I have to use my headphones. So...yeah. My music listening has no limit, it just can't encroach on anyone else's non-listening. :)

You can't really listen to music while you teach. I do sometimes listen in my office. If I ever get a real computer there I'll listen to FUV online all the time. CDs too.
dirty life & times Back · 19 years, 4 months ago
