Sesame Street

   Discussion: Sesame Street
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 17 years, 7 months ago
In Google's Today in history (11/10) it had this:

1969: The classic, "Sesame Street" debuted on 170 Public Broadcasting Stations and 20 commercial outlets. Created by the Children's Television Workshop, the show starred endearing characters including Gordon, Susan, Bob, Bert, Ernie, the Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and, of course, Big Bird!

I was 12 then and too old and too cool for Sesame Street. I know it is important to a lot of you. How did Sesame Street affect you?

...I would get home from morning kindergarten and watch Sesame Street and Mister Roger's Neighborhood with my grandad - affectionatly known as Bampa - while waiting for my parent to get home from work. This would be around 1983. My bampa passed away the summer after kindergarten so old segments of the show always bring back fond memories of him for me ^_^.

I honestly feel Sesame Street is one of the most well-made television programs of all time. I always appreciated that it didn't talk down to kids (pre-elmo's world, which I can't stand) and I can still watch it and be totally entertained. I mean, Placido Flamingo? Meryl Sheep? I love it.

Definately pre-elmo's world was fabulous.  I haven't watched sesame street in years and years but if it's anything like elmo's world they've gone away from the original concept by a long shot.

Speaking of kids shows that don't talk down to kids....
Have you seen Between the Lions?  It's fantastic!  I have no kids and I watch the show.

Does anyone remember that Wet Paint video? That used to scare the shit out of me. Also I thought the "Beady Eyes and Big Blue Head" sketch was hilarious.

Also when I lived in the Bronx, there were 2 kids in our building that were on Sesame Street, Jennifer and Robbie Diaz. Jennifer you can still see in the end credits dancing in the orange shirt and her hair to the side. Robert was on for a couple of episodes.

BTW does anyone think Gordon's son is hot? Also, I just found out he goes Marist! I wanna know if the person I know that goes to Marist knows he goes there. He plays for the Marist Red Foxes.
