How about "I don't know what I believe"?
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years ago
Or do you not believe what you know?
Starfox · 18 years ago
I'd say there is a heaven and a hell, but not in the traditional or contemporary sense of the two words.
Misch · 18 years ago
They told me to "go to hell".... so I moved to New Jersey...
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years ago
That's a terrible thing to say. You owe Hell an apology.

besides the fact that the traditional concepts of heaven and hell violate the laws of conservation of matter and energy, I have serious issues with both premises.

heaven - there is no such thing as perfection. there can be no 'paradise'. is heaven eternal happiness? and if it is, how do you come about it? people are happiest not when they are handed everything on a silver platter, but when they are challenged and achieve their goals. constant perfection leads to stagnation and boredom.

hell - eternal torment should be reserved for the small handful of truly evil individuals throughout history. but the extremist fundamentalist idea that even just say, nonbelievers, end up in hell bothers me greatly, as when approached with logic, it becomes completely indefensible. why should I, whose worst 'sin' is not believing in god or heaven or hell, be condemned for eternity alongside the likes of Adolf Hitler?

"There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

I've seen it attributed to two people, but I'm too lazy right now to remember/research which one originally said it...

I don't talk about my religion a lot, but here goes. The belief of most Kemetic folks is that people who knowingly and repeatedly do evil don't have the luxury of hell. Their kau (souls) are simply destroyed.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years ago
ahhh, the same thing that happens to good buddhists.

I think you should be a radical and reject all the Kemetic gods but Aten the sun god.
Bender Back · 18 years ago
Aten isn't the god of the sun.  The Aten *is* the sun.

You are an obnoxious pedant!
Bender Back · 18 years ago
Nah, just correcting a common misconception.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 18 years ago
That is the very essense of obnoxious pedantry. Most people don't know that.

200 points for the irony

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
