wow, so we're reduced to just one night of amateur playing now?

two nights. wednesday and thursday. just like last year, if i'm remembering right. i'm guessing you won't be there wednesday?

frankly, i think it makes sense. because as i've said before, i think you and i are the only ones bringing instruments to upper camp. and i really don't even think many people are going to be at upper camp to sing along anyway. things have changed a lot in the last 5 years.

I thought there was usually an open-mic type thing Friday night? But now that's apparently been scrapped in favour of having at the budgiedome what already goes on all day at the mainstage, too.

that's the song circle that's been moved to thursday. two years ago, it was billed as an open mic, and half the people who signed up didn't bother climbing the hill and showing up, and the rest of us ended up being too sick to perform. i remember john doing a kickass version of "new york city," and then the whole thing was taken over by wandering pros.

last year we switched to a song circle format, and it was awesome. some of us sang and played original stuff and/or covers, melissa told stories, lena bellydanced...one of my favorite memories of the whole festival.

personally, i think there's a good balance of pro performances and jam sessions going on at the dome this year. especially when you consider that you've got the mornings on most days to jam and hang out as well.

wait, so now thursday night isn't even open jamming and sing-a-longs any more, either? it's something with actual direction?

the song circle's only going to happen if enough budgiedomers are interested. i'm thinking that more likely than not, it'll end up being group singing.
