ok, so i have BitTorrent, and I download this, wait 4+ hours for it to torrent, and I can't get it to work. don't know how to do it. Can anyone please help? I really would like to do this, but I have no clue where to even begin to try and fix it, cause this is my first time doing it.
Agent Scully Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
I couldn't download it the other day. there were no seeders.
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
I did..it took FOREVER..there were supposedly 4 "peers" but they left for a little bit, and the time left thing actually started getting longer.
ARG. Do you have experience with this kind of thing, though? how does it usually work? I sorta get it, but not entirely.
Agent Scully Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
Yup. It would take me forever to download a bit torrent. It depends on how fast their connection is.

I had 0 and 0 and getting the big red circle in my program. So No one was online. :(

I think one show takes me around a few hours to download on a cable modem.

I have dsl, took me a little onver 4 hours, like i said. but now how do i open the file?
Agent Scully Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
You need a FLAC decoder.

4hours isn't forever. These are BIG files. You have like a 100 minute show in a format that isn't lossy. It's gonna be big.

As for how to play them, you need to convert them to something playable on your computer, or you need a plugin for that lets you play the format they are posted in. I know there is a winamp plugin for .shn, but I don't know about .flac. Somewhere I have a program to uncompress that, but I haven't used in in a while so I don't know where it would be. Why not try doing a google search on .flac and find out what to do. That is what I did originally.

Thanks so much. i'll try that right now. Question tho: is it supposed to be a lot of little files? that's what i have, i think. I'm not quite sure about this. But even tho im on a mac, i do have windows media player which works well for most stuff.
i'm off to google...
lawrence Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
you'll want this, actually. you are supposed to have a lot of... uh, well, they're not so little, really. each file should be between 20 and 40MB. but yes, there should be one for each track.

it looks like MacFlac will allow you to decode them to .wav files, which you can then import into iTunes and burn to a music CD.
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
Just downloaded MacFlac right before I saw this. Awesome. I think it's working...Thanks SO incredibly much, everybody, for all your help.
caroline: tired. Back · 19 years, 5 months ago
OK, maybe it's not working. But it's getting late. I'm gonna try this tomorrow, fool around with it some more.

For the record, I have 34 dats and about 50 cassettes to transfer and torrent for y'all. Greg was nice enough to lend me his master tapes (ie: the original, and probably only copy in a lot of cases) Please stay on and seed as long as possible. I just started another torrent on etree this time. If we think my tracker is unstable, I'll just use theirs. Its not a big deal. Thanks!

OK, now i fixed it. This is SO AWESOME! thanks dan godwin, and thanks again to everyone who helped me out, including brian zhu, our band's oboe player (oboeist?) who helped me figure out what exactly i was doing wrong. Apparently I had to install the binaries by hand. I don't even know what binaries are, but i followed some instructions, and now its all done! i'm listening right now, and it's the greatest!
thanks SO much! :)
